We had a really enjoyable 3 night stay at the hotel and the guest team couldn't have been more hospitable. Service, food were all really strong.||First things first - Uluwatu is a lot more up-class that the more northern Bali beach areas like Kuta and Canggu. The hotel's setting is pretty good high above the cliffs overlooking some great surf breaks including "Impossible Beach" down the hotel's own staircase. My son is a surfer and really enjoyed that.||Secondly, we've stayed at 3 different Anantara's over the years; Oman Jebel Al Akhdar (hard to get to but pretty special incl. the cliff-face via ferrata right off the hotel!), and Abu Dhabi desert frontier Qasr Al Sarab (right on the edge of the deserted quarter), now Uluwatu in Bali. They are all interesting hotels for their locations alone. But generally, the feeling you get of Anantara hotels based on our 3 different experiences is that they aim to be great, but they are solid good. Their locations are pretty excellent. But the hotels generally feel like they just cannot afford the upkeep of A-grade hotels in this 4-5* category. They tend to be reasonably priced and perhaps that's the problem with their niche. They probably don't achieve the margins to really maintain yet alone enhance their properties. They feel a bit dated and a little rough around the edges (broken details, aging fittings and finishes, etc.). ||But would I stay in Anantara's again - yes. The service and food were excellent and like I said, Anantara do seem to have properties in quite unique locations .. perhaps because they were amongst the first to develop sites? They also tend to have a healthy-attitude to activities and experiences that push the boundaries.||So all in all - 4* GOOD. ||Shotish drives on Grab/ Gocek to lots of great nearby eateries, fantastic sundowner drink spots, culture (but it's Bali and you sadly have to work pretty hard to find culture as it's tragically overdeveloped these days).||Thanks Anantara.
