Anassa, Neo Chorio, Cyprus - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tell us a little about this place. A big, serious hotel, as cleverly pitched for families with free-wheeling children as it is for couples on the hunt for sunshine and downtime. Capturing the whole of the set-up, a Mediterranean pile on the north-west coast of Cyprus , framing its splendid size, its weighty elegance, its thrilling solidity, is challenging. The imposing, traditional Greek Cypriot-style buildings with their terra cotta-tiled roofs, whitewashed walls, and periwinkle blue shutters spill down to pools and rolling lawns that in turn tumble onto the beach. It sounds divine. What’s the story behind it? Anassa is the shining star of the Thanos group, the Cypriot family-owned and -run gathering of hotels renowned for their smart edge. There’s the slick, minimalist Almyra, the freshly refurbished Annabelle, the new acquisition Aloe (opening summer 2019) and on the throne, Anassa—grand, elegant, completely self-assured, with its hordes of deeply loyal returning guests. Well, we'd try them all. What can we expect from the bedrooms? The rooms are classic and calm, pale linens, a jaunty nautical stripe, muslin curtains, and at night, with the windows flung open, all you can hear is the lick of sea on sand. For the sunniest late afternoon balconies and the best sunset views, ask for a room high up in the West Wing. Whichever side your room faces, you’ll have a mesmerizing lookout: views are 180 degrees round, from the turquoise water of the Akamas national park on one side to the bobbing marina of nearby Latchi on the other. How about the food and drink? The food in all of the restaurants is reliably varied: hushed dinners of soft shell crab in the prettiest courtyard at Asian-leaning Basiliko; beef fillet or slow cooked lamb in Helios’s lantern-lit garden; weekly torchlit grilled-swordfish barbecues on the beach; authentic local folk suppers in the chapel courtyard under blousy branches of bougainvillea, and breakfasts of local yogurts and cheeses, sun-ripened fruit, and sweet sticky nuts at breakfast whose honey is collected from the beekeeper less than a mile away. Yum. Anything to say about the service? Excellent, from the thorough and intuitive spa therapists, to the engaging and sweet girls who run the kids’ club, the generous ice-cream scoopers at the Haagen-Dazs counter, and the nothing-is-too-much-trouble front desk. Perfect. What type of person stays here? With a Scott Dunn kids’ club that’s slicker than most London nurseries, the tribes here fluctuate with the school term timetable. There’s the evergreen breakers, catching early and late summer sun in May and October, the high season holiday-makers that make a pilgrimage the same week of August every year, and the devout avoiders of under-18s who know that September really is the best month, weather-wise, anyway. They keep themselves to themselves, reading Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind down at the beach and listening to Tom Odell by the pool. Got it. What’s the neighborhood scene like (if there is one)? The hotel sits right on the scoop of Chrysou bay, great for scuba diving straight off the shore. Take out a boat to explore the watery-wondrousness of the Akamas national park. Hike along the peninsula. Potter down to the marina in nearby Latchi. Or stay put, invest a day in the spa, play tennis on the floodlit court, dip into the Kult boutique (it gives Matches a run for its money). We'll try to do it all. Anything we missed? The spa set up is crisp and fresh and nautical. Its origin is as a thalassotherapy spa, and indeed the jet sprays and salt water baths with water straight from the Mediterranean are both invigorating and restorative. But there's also a comprehensive range of Ila therapies alongside more directive QMS anti-aging options, and the amazing Anastasia Achilleos-method facial, a fully nurturing, cosseting, enveloping session where you are held in the therapist’s arms while lying on a heated water pad. Interesting! And anything you’d change? Although the restaurant options are varied and plentiful, the actual standard of the food could come up a notch or two. Everything else at the hotel is so on-point and excellent, that a fillet of over-cooked fish or a salad and sandwich combo at lunch feels like a bit of a disappointment. That's fair. So, is it worth it—and why? It packs a punch, it is big, and elegant, solid underfoot with smooth marble everywhere. Anassa is so much more than just somewhere that keeps the smaller members of the gang deeply contented. It is as enchanting for grown-ups, too." - Issy von Simson

We had a great stay again in this lovely resort. Everyuthing was wonderful as usual although it would have been nice to see some variety and changes to the menus. The rooms could also do with an update to keep up with the competition but they are still very comfortable. Having said that, the setting of the hotel and the beach and sea makes this, in our opinion, one of the best resorts in the Med and why we will return. We also come back to see so many friendly faces, and John the Duty Manager is the absolute best. He is forever helpful, knowledgeable and kind to us and shows a real interest in the guests, and we make our daily detour to the reception to see him and to arrange a day out or just for a chat. Mentions also to Marina this year who looked after us each morning. We will be back for sure and look forward to seeing John and his team next year. We would urge people to try Anassa, it won't disappoint.

I recently visited Anassa Hotel for just a drink, and while I enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and ambiance, what truly impressed me was the exceptional service from the staff. I accidentally left my sunglasses behind and only realized later that I had forgotten them. A week after my visit, I received a call from the hotel informing me that they had found my sunglasses. To my surprise, they went the extra mile and arranged to have them couriered to my house. This level of attention and care is rare, and it speaks volumes about the dedication of the team at Anassa. Even though I was there for just a short time, they treated my small issue with the utmost professionalism. I highly recommend Anassa Hotel not only for its beautiful setting but for the outstanding customer service. Thank you again to the amazing staff!

Sitting back and already reminiscing on what an utterly glorious week we have had at the beautiful Anassa. The exceptional reviews say it all but we must highlight the truly wonderful l warm and professional staff. Thank you Mina for always being there with advice and help with getting the most out of the superb cuisine on offer and the lovely Alia who was such a joy to see every day. We’ve been coming to Anassa for the last five years . Best location for those seeking peace and quiet , privacy and class. |Accommodation is spacious very comfortable with balconies overlooking magnificent sea view . Great staff and service . |Private beach ( access to the water is not so friendly because of the pebbles and tiny stones ) but is worth the effort for the cleanliness and water’s transparency .) the most beautiful terrace out of the bar area for having great cocktails and a variety of bar food at all times - preferably around sun set . |Great spa area with great indoor pool ( should be heated ) |A place where one frequents regularly and meets same staff members who remember their guests from one year to the other . It always has a homecoming feel |gim , and more .
