Road Tripping Through Small Town Wisconsin

"Head to the remote Anaway Place for the most peaceful night's sleep you could imagine, with a slight detour to the small village of Spring Green proper first. Check into one of Anaway Place’s seven secluded cabins—all of which are fitted with massive windows ripe for stargazing—before winding down in front of a wood-burning fireplace."

Absolutely serene experience. If you're looking to detach from the hustle of life, this is the destination. We stayed in June and at night we heard barred owls calling and the most unbelievable (and I mean that) light show from a forest full of fireflies. It was like a fairy tale. We stayed in the Hillside unit and it was 100% clean and fresh, totally isolated, stocked with anything you need and it really felt like we were in a tree house with the windows and view. We had nightly fires in the fire pit, cooked on the "camp style" grill out back and just relaxed. The host/owners were friendly but just let us be. There is onsite firewood for ten bucks a rack (enough for a good evening blaze) and the mini store onsite has everything you need. Super bonus was seeing a Piebald deer at dusk (Piebald deer are white-tailed deer with a rare genetic condition that causes patches of white hair to appear amidst their normal brown coat). No TV, barely any cell service but remarkable strong wifi. We are going back next Summer, already booked the Woodland House!

The Barn was absolutely perfect for our family getaway. It exceeded our expectations! The place was warm, cozy, and fully equipped to make you feel right at home. Bring your hiking boots and get ready to explore 110 acres of natural beauty. Quiet and private, you’ll forget there are 6 others cabins in the property. Make sure to visit the Anaway store and say hello to the owners! I honestly couldn’t take any bad pictures during our stay. The whole place was just picture perfect! Already planning a “Fall season” stay.

I had the opportunity to stay in The Barn with a group earlier this year. A really incredible space to spend time together. The barn was perfectly appointed and very comfortable with tons of space and natural light. I had the chance to walk the property and was amazed and all the unique accommodations and the great store on site. Would highly recommend visiting Anaway and experiencing all that it has to offer.

My son and I have been visiting for years. We stayed in the log cabin and meadow cabin. It was relaxing and delightful. I’m in love with the fireplace at the log cabin. The new owners are wonderful and dedicated to their new venture. They have made nice improvements.

This place is perfect for a romantic getaway! My girlfriend and I stayed in the Meadow house, and I would argue it is the best choice for a couple after hiking the property to see the other houses. Nothing wrong with the other houses of course, but you just can't beat its location on the property and the 360 glass wall view from the upper loft! The store up front my girlfriend found very cute, and the check in staff were super friendly and welcoming. The only notable things I would recommend for improvement are some more complimentary goods in the cabins (coffee packets, extra towels, perhaps a welcoming bottle of wine or something) and the trails in the property could definitely use some maintenance, but I wouldn't even consider these complaints. Overall we absolutely loved it here and are looking forward to trying out the other cabins anyways just to see them!

Stayed here last weekend for wife's birthday and I must say we were not impressed. Although the glass house was nice, it did have its issues. First the house it self smelled like it wasn't aired out in weeks, had a weird mold smell to it. The bathroom/kitchen, the best way I can explain it is if you have a aquarium at home it has that mildew smell. And I mean it's bad!! I understand that it's a "cabin" but it's also advertised as a upscale cabin. The "kitchen" should be at least stocked with some single servings of coffee, every cheap motel that I stayed it at least provided coffee if they provide a coffee maker. Another thing that's non existent is fresh towels, if you stay more then one day make sure you dry your towels since your going to be reusing them. Now if new towels are available for exchange at the check-in store no one mentioned anything, so I doubt that's the case. Other then the smell, lack of basic accommodations and clean towels the cabin was nice. Was it worth waiting 2 year since I mase the reservation?? That's up for debate. 😕

Norbert and Susan have passed the property to AMAZING hands with the new owners! Chris and Lyndsay were both so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. We had an issue with a sink (which turned out to just be user error) and Lyndsay was there quickly to handle it. We have stayed at Anaway several times and have 3 more trips booked for the future! Our whole family treasures this place. It's truly a gem.

We had a wonderful time and the glass house! My husband and I were there with our 2-year old son around mid-October. It was beautiful but I would not suggest booking much later than that. The bathroom, kitchenette, and shower stall are across a boardwalk so you have to go outside. The website describes it as an upscale camping experience and I would totally agree! You park your car next to the log cabin and then walk about 50 yards to the glass house. There is a convenient cart for you to use. You can see both the hillside house and the log cabin from the glass house though it does feel rather secluded. The property of Anaway Place has a nice hiking trail. The location is the only thing I didn’t give five starts because when staying at the glass house, you neither need to make meals you don’t cook, pre-cook all your meals and heat them up in the bathroom/shower/kitchenette area, or go out to eat. There are some good places to eat in town but most restaurants are at least a 30 minute drive. The scenery of the Driftless is beautiful though.
