Anchor Bar

This location is really close to the airport and is situated in a much better place the original. It is easy access with a nice parking lot. The food is awesome and it makes sense why people love it. The staff here is great and it seems each person knows more about wings and wing history than the next. I noticed every question answered from every tourist and I personally ordered the local favorites. I strongly suggest it and hope to get back to one soon.

Beef on wreck, excellent. Enough tater tots to build something. Wing’s always good. Chicken was dry. Two out of three, not bad. Service was excellent. Plenty of seating.

Our company hosted a small event in this restaurant, where they have a separate room for about 25 people. The staff was really accommodating to provide us with what we asked for. They really helped setting up the tables. The food and the service were amazing. The place is conveniently located if you need to host someone coming from the east as it is right off of the highway.

We pulled in here after flying in from the west coast. The bartender told us that the kitchen was closed, but they were nice enough to serve us anyway. We had wings and beef weck, both excellent. They had a few local beers that were tasty. Great, friendly service.

Great place to go and hang out and get amazing food. There chicken wings are outstanding. And the atmosphere was great.

I’m visiting from California and absolutely loved Anchor Bar. This really is the spot for the best Buffalo wings and the best blue cheese I’ve ever had. It was my first time here and my mom’s last visit to her hometown of Buffalo, so picking this place ended up being perfect. Andrea was wonderful she got our order in right away since we were rushing to the airport. The manager, Russ, was incredibly friendly and gave us great conversation. The whole place is clean, welcoming, and has great vibes. If you’re looking for a delicious bite just five minutes from the airport, this is the place. You won’t be disappointed. This was the perfect ending to a beautiful trip.

I was part of a motor coach group (35 people). We were on our way to the airport and needed lunch. The restaurant was not expecting us, but they welcomed us with smiles. The manager, the server/bartender, and cook were extraordinary! The manager and server/bartender took our orders in a timely manner. The cook prepared the orders quickly (35 meals!), and the food was delicious! Our bills were done in a timely manner, and they were done correctly. Our entire group was amazed at this team of three. They were nothing short of amazing.

We are visiting Buffalo with the family and of course had to check out Anchor Bar, can't come to the home of the original wings and not try them! We got a cheese pizza for the kids and 20 traditional wings split between Honey Garlic and Spicy Parmesan Garlic. The wings were so good--crispy, saucy, and full of flavor. The honey garlic was sweet but not too much, and the spicy parm garlic had a nice little kick without being overwhelming. Definitely some of the better wings we have had on this trip. Surprisingly, the cheese pizza was also a hit! Super cheesy with a great crust, our kids loved it. Overall, we are glad we stopped in. Fun spot with solid food and a cool history. Worth the visit if you are in Buffalo!

It's been over a decade since I have last been to an anchor bar and this time I tried this place with my bro. The vibe was fun as a Bill's game was on but the food left a lot to be desired. Granted the wings were tasty but a little burnt and dry on some parts (especially the wing tips). What really disappointed me was the queso and chips. The queso was pretty good, but a tad runny, but the chips were sooooo salty, it was like it was scooped in salt on many pieces of chips. I had to shake a lot of salt off some pieces to make it edible enough with the dip. I even asked the worker there if I could get chips that didn't have so much salt and all they told me was that "that is how it comes." Then she just walked away without giving us any alternative as to what to do with all the salty chips. So disappointed with their response. Right after this, I went to a different wing place and soon realized how much better service and food I could have gotten elsewhere. Got wings and a side dish there and it was more spot on than at this anchor bar. I will probably never come back to this location.

Got on the waitlist at 6:15 and I told the hostess that we would wait at the bar . She said that we could eat there and I replied that my husband wanted a table. After watching everyone get seated we finally asked when we were going to be seated. The other hostess said that we weren't even on the list.! We were finally seated and no one came to our table ! People around us were getting waited on immediately! Original hostess was cleaning tables by us and refused to even make eye contact!! So after an hour of wasted time WE LEFT AND WILL NEVER COME BACK

Noisy, dirty, slow. Don't need to go back. Had an okay burger but nothing special. None of the wait staff looked happy to be there or invested in the clients at their tables. They looked rather bored and annoyed to be there. The big guy who I'm guessing is the manager, walked around but did nothing. He did ask us "was our meal delicious ?" But kept walking so we could really respond. So if you have a choice, keep driving by.

Stopped by the Anchor Bar in Buffalo to try the original wings. Gotta say--they delivered. Wings were great, crispy with just the right heat. The place itself is pretty basic, regular bar vibe, nothing fancy or special, but it's a quiet spot to grab some good wings and relax. Worth a visit if you want to try where it all started.

These are hands down the best buffalo wings I've ever had! The service was exceptional, from walking to walking out. I ordered five wing specials and paired them with some delicious potato salad. My spicy buffalo parm wings were so good! I'll be back before I leave this pretty city! ***update*** I went back the next day and tried their honey garlic and they were good but I highly recommend the parm wings.

I'm sorry but I have to take away a star for the prices. They are absolutely out of control. I have already boycotted the chicken wings, which I am aware are expensive everywhere, but Anchor Bars are the most expensive in the area and they happen to be my favorite. RIP chicken wings, you will be missed. But dang, EVERYTHING here is expensive! Chicken wing dip for $16.49???? Why? It's not like there is literal chicken wings in it! $6.49 to add on coleslaw?? $13.49 for a turkey club sandwich on white bread with potato chips?? I mean are we eating at Disneyland or a Buffalo area restaurant? I like your food and customer service is good (at least for my pick ups ... I don't eat at the restaurant ...) but once my Uber promos are up I can no longer justify the prices and will have to scratch Anchor Bar off my list. If your vendors are the reason for the high prices, time to switch

Group of 8. Friday night, deserted dining room. 2 wait staff in our area and both were near non-existent to the tables. Had fried pickles (meh), loaded tots (really good), meat pizza (dry, tough crust, minimum pepperoni and sausage-bland), wick and wings (3 orders and 2 disliked it & one liked it). Wings- original and hot - meaty but we had to ask for more sauce because they were dry. I hate that. chips were good, fries were not good. Oh yeah, Very good peanut butter pie. That gets a bonus point. Overall, 2.5 and we all agreed we don't need to come back for a while. We had higher hopes.

Came with family from NYC to judge wings against Duff's. They voted for Duff's sauce over Anchor bar, but when in Buffalo, you must try Anchor Bar's wings. We asked for extra crispy, and they were pretty much that. The hot was perfect in terms of heat for a Buffalo wing. The extra hot was a bit too much for me, and I like hot food. The service was excellent. The Anchor Bar IPA was really good (from Ellicottville Brewing). It was hoppy and not too bitter, just a touch less bitter than a Hayburner, which is my go-to beer. They also had Hayburner on tap. The Beef-on-Weck was lean and tasty with a generous portion. We ordered the larger portion of beef as we were splitting for just a taste. I would go back if I was in the area, but wouldn't come just for the wings.

BUYER BEWARE!!! On 9.28.2024 we visited this location and after leaving our server (Haley) added her own tip amount and NOT the tip written on the receipt!!! Ownership agreed to refund the difference only if we would give him over-the-phone our full credit card information!! Um what? Not a shot!!! We ultimately had to dispute the difference with our bank and VISA. I would like to note how professional, empathetic & helpful the corporate office for Anchor Bar was...this location is a franchise!

Had an amazing order of wings from here last night. 10 honey bourbon bbq and 10 of the original recipe (medium). They came out perfect! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Yummmm! The place was busy and full of cowgirl fans as Dallas takes on the Buffalo Bills today. We had to wait a bit long for the wings to come out but that gave us a chance to drink our drinks which were a bit mid. I ordered a merry mule. Her martini was meh but not really the place to order that type of drink in my opinion. The restaurant itself was rocking as people were gathered at the bar and table watching the games on tv. Lots of license plates from out of town-ers ere decor for the wall at the bar. Staff was nice as well. Not sure why this place gets a bad wrap from locals, bec I've never had a bad wing from here.

I had a great bar tender and some great appetizers but the owner and manager make the bar tender wipe down all the chairs while the bar is full of people and makes it difficult for the bartender to take care of the patrons. No knock on the bartender but she should not be whipping down chairs.

Famous as the originator of Buffalo Wings, the Anchor Bar has a great reputation for making the best chicken wings anywhere. After all, it's their signature offering. However, they also make pizza, sandwiches, burgers, etc. During my visit to this location on Sunday I found that the wings reputation is well grounded. We tried their wings and had three different types of sauce: Medium, Bourbon BBQ, and Garlic Parmesan. Each flavor was great! We also had a side of French Fries (very good), and a side of coleslaw. They have a nice selection of beers to choose from as well as soft drinks. Our server was very friendly and checked back with us often to see if there was anything we needed. The original location is in Buffalo, but as we were traveling on I-90, this location was very convenient to get to.

Of course this is not the original but does it matter?! My first stop after getting off the plane - yes it had to be Anchor Bar. Met a delightful young lady behind the bar - Logan! She kept us engaged made the lunch time conversation interesting! The Kemmel Weck roll was spot on with just enough salt & caraway seeds. The roast beef tender & delicious. Of course I had to get a sample of wings! Wings were delicious with blue cheese for dipping! A great start to the weekend!

World's longest wait for the most over cooked wings. Don't tell people 30 minutes and have it be almost 1.5 hours

I stayed the night next-door at a hotel and had the unfortunate event by going to this establishment. I went in the place looked pretty cool, but I asked the waitress what is the specialty? And she said wings - - - that was a mistake. They literally smelt like a wet fart and they were dry as Sahara desert. I also had what they call a french dip sandwich , I believe a two-year-old made it. It was basic plain and dry.And the only good thing was the Ajou sauce and the sauce they give you for dipping was tasteless and the onion rings was greasy and no flavor at all. Even my whiskey was watered down it was a very depressing meal. Yeah it looks great from the outside but their food tastes like crap on the inside.

I went to that sports restaurant from last Halloween. I just had to watch sports on TV.

If you're looking for a quick stop and good quality food, this is your spot. I was craving a chicken wrap and my fiancé really wanted wings. The place was decently filled on a Saturday night but our food came out very quick. The Buffalo chicken wrap was huge, packed full of veggies/chicken and had a good amount of fries on the side. My fiancés wings were definitely some of the best we've had, lightly crisped but still juicy and had good flavor. He got a side of fries too, which were massive and probably enough for 2-3 people. Our server was efficient and helpful too. I would definitely come back to this spot!

I was in town and I wanted to try THE original, even though it looks like this is a mini chain now. I did carry out original wings and boneless wings and they were amazing, exactly what I wanted after a long drive, needless to say they did not disappoint. Initially I was hesitant with the prices as some other places will charge up to $2 per boneless wing and each one turns out to be smaller than a chicken McNuggets. Anchor's carry out portions definitely had the value there. My regular portion of bone in wings had 10 wings and some were super big. The boneless wings were all pretty large and the box was pretty full. When I'm back in town, I'll be stopping here again.

Iconic for a reason! First time here, and I have to try Duff's now, but I loved the food here and took a bottle of the sauce home! Western New Yorkers are serious about their wings and that is something that Anchor Bar does perfectly. Double fried wings tossed in sauce with a hearty side of blue cheese, what else could you want? My dad and I split 10 of the original recipe, and its the perfect sauce. Not too hot, vinegar notes, and that classic bright orange color. Simple but done extremely well. I am a bit of a heat seeker, so I got the hotter wings and a weck sandwich. $20 for all of this incredible food? AMAZING. The hotter sauce wasn't too hot, I might try the hottest again, but the wings had the crisp and the sauce had that tang. The beef on weck is a sandwich I miss from childhood, (originally from Syracuse), and the weck roll was exactly how I remember them, the beef portion was generous, and the horseradish on top was all this sandwich needed. My folks both got salads, and the salads looked really, really good. Fresh veggies, big bowls and delivered very quickly. The service was great, even during a snowstorm and I will definitely be back when I breeze through Buffalo again.

Came to Buffalo for the first time. Friends who have visited before me recommended we try the place where the Buffalo Wing originated! Well I have to say that this place was absolutely delicious. We had 20 wings and they came out hot and cooked to perfection. The sauce flavor was amazing and finger licking good! Service and atmosphere were outstanding and we really enjoyed the ambience! (Side Note: We ate at 3 other wing places this trip and Anchor Bar was hands down the best!) Enjoy!

I went to the original location years ago and it was so good. This one is like a Pinterest fail or Anchor Bar from wish. Nothing was good here and the whole place smelled like a portajohn.

I always enjoy the food here. The wings are my favorite. The thing that really impressed me on today's visit was the service. The bartender Kristen delivered an absolutely flawless level of service! I truly hope she gets recognized for reviews, because she nailed it!

Arrived at 7:30p on a Friday night with our daughters softball team on our way back to our hotel. Seated immediately in a private room and our server, Jennifer, was amazing. Wings were great, drinks were always filled and Jennifer handled our 25+ party with ease and a great personality. Great food and top notch service!

OK many people said to check out anchor bar as it's the birth place of hot eings. We came here and damn these were the best damn hot wings I ever had. Asking the server she hates the BW brand lol its not true buffalo wings and these wings were huge as well. Come to Buffalo and try these hot wings you will not be disappointed at all.

It's hard for me to give wings 5 starts because they are so hit and miss every where. Went here two nights in a row. First night service a little off. I sat at bar but it looked like the bartender had the bar and most the tables. The old "short staff" thing. Overall good food good service. Second night had Amy as bartender. Super awesome. She was so friendly to everyone. Walked some customers through drinks they wanted or thought they wanted. Worked with the wait staff. Just all around professional. Wings were very good both times. Got the medium sauces. Little spice but not terrible. Good flavor. Will be back when on the area.

$8 for a draft hay burner lol and nothing even close to the DT spot. I live a mile away and will never be back. Inside looks like Applebees to boot.

It s my first time to have THE original buffalo wings in Buffalo today! I am so about to find out what the real fresh wings would taste like. I mean my husband flew in n out to Buffalo ordering Anchor s buffalo wings for me. I always had their wings after an hour later After an hour flight from NY, we drive no more than 10 minutes from TAC air service to the restaurant. In fact no one is hungry after a big breakfast. We walked in anyway. We are the first batch of customers. The waitress is very nice. She soon guides us in and sit up a center table..... one thing "nice" about the "special time" is we get to enjoy meals like the entire restaurant is for us . Anyway, the setting, the lighting, the music, the wide wooden blinds are all just right... Ok wings wings wings! We ordered 20 wings in mild. After first bite, no words!!! Everyone goes hemmmmmm..... FYI, we also tried Duff's wings, TERRIBLE

Love Anchor bar. Locals vary on which Wings place they prefer and honestly, all of them are pretty darn good if not great. I prefer Anchor bar from my experiences. Just delicious and to me it's the perfect wing! I'm a medium original sauce guy so I haven't tried the high spicy ones. I get the bottles of sauce to go because I live on the west coast and need my anchor fix once in a while. You can order sauce online too which I have also done. They are the original and claim to be the best and I'm here to echo that statement in my humble opinion.

I have never seen such a restaurant. I signed the tip after I finished my meal and left, but after my credit card was charged, they directly charged me an extra tip of $10. This made me very angry. I don't understand why they secretly charged me an extra tip. This is the first time I have encountered this in the United States. Please avoid it!

Stopped in again between Ohio and Massachusetts for lunch. Ordered 20 wings, onion rings and a cranberry salad. Place was not too busy at weekday lunch hour which was nice. Wings were really crispy and nice mild sauce. Onion rings and salad were good but the wings were top notch. We ordered another 20 to go for my son, but a 6 hour ride left little sauce, but he still loved them. Great place right off the highway.

Wings, onion ring, and grilled chicken sandwich with avocado. I was traveling through with a truck and trailer and seen that I could fit In the parking lot and was craving wings. The wings were crispy and pretty good. Onion Rings were great. Chicken was good. Only complaint was the servers did not come over and check on us or refill Our drinks.

We had a small family reunion (16 people) here and had a side room all to ourselves. The server was awesome and kept everyone's orders/checks separate and correct. The food was just ok though, nothing that stood out. I asked for a margarita--she asked if I had a tequila preference and I said no--thinking that would indicate house brand. Bill comes and it's $8 for Margarita plus $4 upcharge for tequila. Not pleased. The wings were better than last time I was at Anchor Bar, but if it was up to me, I would choose Duff's.

Was in the area and wanted to try the creator of the original chicken wings. I know this wasn't the original location but assume the recipe being used is still true to the flagship location. Anyway this was a takeout order so I can't comment much on the inside or service other than my interaction with the greeter. The location seemed it was at half capacity at 7pm, a few people sitting at the bar. The waiting area chairs probably need to be replaced since there is no support in the middle anymore but that's besides the point. I walked in gave my name and the employee greeting went back to check and said it would be ready in a few more minutes. I was early so their time they estimated on my order was spot on. A few mins later he came back with the order which was correct and thanked me for my patronage. So from this perspective great service and friendly. Onto the food, I ordered the medium wings and a giant pretzel. Overall I would say the wings were good but that is it. I felt like there is so much hype that your expectations are heightened and when you actual try them you realize they are just like any other fried chicken wing you had everywhere else. So to some extent I was a little disappointed, but you have to remember these guys created it so there successful product was copied by others which is really why you can't be disappointed with from a being unique perspective. For what it is I'd say these wings are my favorite incarnation of wings and with that being said they do deserve props for being the original. As for my pretzel I though that was pretty good, they give you a good amount of cheese. The only negative is the thickness of the pretzel varied a lot from thick to thin in different areas which ate differently from nice and chew to a little overdone and hard. I think more consistency would yield a better product. Overall though I enjoyed my meal and probably would say a 3.5 would be more accurate but since there isn't a half score I rounded up.

I recently went to the new Anchor Bar location. They really made it look great in there. This is the best looking of the anchor bar locations (minus the original being the OG). The only complaint was how small our table was for 4 people sharing a bunch of wings and fries. Service this night was also really good. Can not complain. It was a Saturday night and it was pretty busy in there. Our waitress was also on top of things. We ordered 50 chicken wings and we were able to have up to 5 flavors!! The chicken wings in size and amount of meat weren't your typical "buffalo" wings. The flavors we picked were- Char BBQ, Honey Garlic, Spicy Garlic Parm, Hot and chipotle BBQ. The best of the 5 flavors were Honey Garlic and Chipotle BBQ. You also can't go wrong with Char BBQ. The spicy flavor took over any sort of "garlic" or "Parmesan" flavor.

Ok this place has ruined all other hot wings for this girl. I am from Washington state and all we get is regular franchise hot wing places anchor bar is where it's at if you want the best ever hot wings. I loved each and every bite I took. Our waitress was awesome and told us a little about the restaurant. Thank you for the best food ever and if I ever come back I sure will be coming in for more of your delicious hot wings

My carry out order was 25 minutes past the time for pick up and both the guy handing me the food and manager looked offended when I asked for ranch. They gave me one small gas station looking ranch and rolled their eyes when I asked for more. I told them to charge me for two more and instead they handed me one more and charged me for the one they had already given me. It's a shame that something so trivial can ruin an experience, the rating is for the service not the food.

I was born in Buffalo in 1972. You could say that I've eaten A LOT of Buffalo wings. 50 years worth. Especially hot wings. First, I was given the wrong intersection of the restaurant, and my wings were cold when I arrived. They gave me 15% off for the "misunderstanding" which was awesome. So, I took my "hot" wings home and got ready to enjoy them. I opened the container - and PLAIN WINGS! I called, and they assure me that they were indeed "hot" wings. I've eaten "Buffalo" wings in just about every continental state & Canada - and NO WHERE would this be considered HOT wings. Especially in THE BIRTH PLACE OF WINGS! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE ANCHOR BAR??? Last time I was here, they were plump, juicy and great. These were overcooked and COMPLETELY PLAIN. SMALL, NO SAUCE, NO FLAVOR, NO STARS. Lastly, I was told that the longer their wings sit, the hot sauce soaks in and becomes mild. WHAT!?!??? In what world, does HOT SAUCE become MORE MILD, the longer it sits? If anything, once it soaks in, it gets hotter! These stink. The Anchor Bar may have INVENTED Buffalo Wings, and maybe at one time they were good, but not anymore. I ordered 10 HOT WINGS from DUFFS today - okay now! Hot wings! What do you know? There was some hot sauce left over from my Duffs order and I coated the left over Anchor wings with actual hot sauce. Now, they are still overcooked. So, maybe a warmup in the air fryer may salvage what's left. Actually, the best "Buffalo" wings I ever got, were in Phoenix, AZ. Go figure.

Recently visited for a friends daughter's graduation, it's easy on and off from the Thruway with plenty of parking. Seated right away, they had a designated area for the party which was nice. Service was great, they were short staffed but still hustled to take care of us and the other restaurant guests. Menu is varied, plenty of options for everyone and prices were fair. Food was fresh, hot, and pretty good. It's Pub food in my opinion so can't really go wrong. Definitely will be back when in the area, as the food, price, and service were good, thanks for a nice meal. Giving them extra credit as I think they even cut up the cake and served even though it wasn't theirs(?) not sure but still nice of them to do.

Really good beef on weck and wing sauces were on point. I would recommend this place

When in Buffalo, you gotta eat wings, right? Full disclosure, we were aiming to go to Duff's simply because it was closer to our hotel, but it closed too early. As it turned out, we were happy with the food and service at this Anchor Bar location. I'm not a huge wing fan, but these were meaty and well-cooked. The sauce was your traditional hot sauce-based variety, we went with the mild option. Even then, I worried my son might think it was too spicy, but we both dug it. The celery accompaniment was fine, a few carrot sticks would have been appreciated. I was disappointed by the pre-packaged container of Ken's blue cheese for dipping. Boo. Come on, guys, you're the original Buffalo wing creator! You can do better than that!

What can be said, clearly if you love wings, you have to make the trek to the place that started it all. Phenomenal wings, friendly service and great prices. And the Weck sandwich was just as nice

On the way home from Canada we stopped for a bite to eat at the anchor bar in Williamsville. The dry rub wings and the grilled wings were the best I've ever had. Super crunchy, as ordered and meaty and delicious. The waiter was a young man, I'm sorry I didn't have his name, tall and thin and very accommodating. I wish I had taken photos for you all, but we were too busy eating, enjoying, and trying to get home after a very trying 2+ hours at the border. The back up was insane don't ever travel to Canada on New Year's Day. But if heading back to Rochester, be sure to stop at the anchor bar in Williamsville!

After being on an airplane flying across the country for 8 hours, the first thing we did was hit up the anchor bar for their famous wings and pizza. Our waiter, Liam, couldn't have made our experience any better. He was extremely friendly and accommodating to our large party of people, and served everybody's orders with ease! He was funny and kind and made our experience of Buffalo and the famous anchor bar off to an amazing start. The pizza was the perfect consistency of doughy and saucy, all topped with the most perfect crispy curled pepperoni slices cradling a swimming pool of that sweet, sweet grease I wouldn't dream of dabbing off with a napkin. The wings were bodaciously thicccc as ever and juuuuicy good. WOW!!!!! Absolute banger of an experience at the Anchor Bar!

This review is for delivery orders during the pandemic, which have been amazing given the circumstances. Not only is the order pretty quick (and that's with using DoorDash), but boy do they give you enough food to feed a village. (The fries I receive as a side were enough to feed my kiddos for two nights, lol!) We recently ordered a pizza that was massive and super tasty -- perfect for a movie night in. I am glad I got the 18 inch as it went quick. I also go the Buffalo chicken wrap that is a favorite of mine. All in all, Anchor Bar has been wonderful on the delivery end and doesn't pull its punches in the portion department.

Food is great... Atmosphere was good... Service was on point.... Our server Jessica was wonderful. Welcome to my first time here.
