*One of the Earliest Churches in Christian History* Tucked within the archaeological site of Ephesus, this ancient church is one of the earliest known Christian basilicas. Historically significant, it’s believed to have hosted the Third Ecumenical Council in 431 AD, where early church leaders debated and affirmed key doctrines about the Virgin Mary. Though now mostly in ruins, the church layout with its central nave and apse remains visible, and walking through its sacred space brings a deep sense of spiritual history. For Christian visitors, this site carries profound meaning. It’s not as visually grand as the Library of Celsus or the Great Theatre, but it offers a humbling and quiet moment of reflection where faith meets history. It's easily accessible as part of your Ephesus walking tour and well worth a thoughtful pause. #AncientChurch #VirginMary #EcumenicalCouncil #Ephesus #ChristianHistory #BiblicalSites

Sadly there is not much remaining of the church, and only a few walls have been rebuilt. So it remains up to visitor to imagine what this church might have looked like in the past. It is a bit further out from the amphitheater of Ephesus, about 5 minutes by foot. At the site, there can clearly be seen how brick archs have been built on top of ancient foundation. Worth a visit if you are in Ephesus.

The atmosfere is so calm and inspiring. Bring your own bottle, The water is free from the fountain and it's delicious. Don't need to pay for bottled holy water.

Church of Mary is around 1 Km far from Ephesus stadium (Acts 19). Church isn't in good condition though. The alter of Church looks beautiful and few crosses around give it more beautiful also. There are Greek inscriptions and some pillars look really fascinating. You don't have to buy a separate ticket to visit this Church. Church is included under Ephesus and from very close to this Church there's exit also. Please make sure to carry an umbrella and a water bottle as Ephesus is really sunny and can be exhausting. Hope you enjoy your visit. Blessings!

Interesting place, full of history and... nature. Exept the great archaeological place i saw there how the boar is running away from dogs. that chase is passed 5 meters away from me and that was so funny and unexpectable
