Ancient Hue Garden Houses, Hue, Vietnam - Explore & Book

"Near the banks of the Perfume River in the historic Vietnamese city of Hue, the Ancient Hue Garden Houses seamlessly marry centuries-old heritage with contemporary design and services. This Zen haven is found in the village of Kim Long, a historic residential district outside the bustling metropolis. The Mandarin-style architecture mirrors the traditional garden houses of the Nguyen Dynasty (who ruled the city until just after WWII) and the unique style of the nearby Imperial City – landscaped gardens, traditional folk colours, intricate wood panels, carved pillars, handpainted murals and decorated terracotta. The mood here is all about elegance and serenity. You can laze around the swimming pools, wander through the labyrinth of foliage-lined pathways, find peace beside the koi ponds, enjoy fantastic food in the choice of restaurants, or a rubdown in the well-equipped spa. The residences and suites encapsulate the Ancient Hue’s ethos of modern luxury meets historic grandeur. There are five beautifully restored Imperial houses once home to former Mandarins and members of the ruling family, and four French colonial villas – each with 1-2 bedrooms. It's tempting to cloister yourself away from the world, but do venture out the huge entrance gates and explore wider Hue - a favourite city of the Vietnamese we met on our travels - with its markets and restaurants, tombs and temples, meandering river and the spectacular Unesco-listed citadel of the Imperial City. Highs Great location for a longer stay – away from the tourist hordes but only a 5-minute cab ride to the Imperial City Authentically restored and artistically decorated accommodation, each with a private terrace, some have Jacuzzi tubs, all are surrounded by gorgeous gardens Two on-site restaurants to choose from, from French cuisine to Vietnamese fusion fine dining, plus a private royal dining experience Fantastic spa with two treatment rooms offering everything from aromatherapy to reflexology, skin treatments and mani/pedis The service is calm, efficient and impeccable Lows You may feel too far removed from town if only staying a night or two Kim Long village, just outside the gates, has its charms but the most interesting shops, markets and nightlife are a cab ride away Pricey but good value for money for the service, design details, spacious suites and villas, and tranquil location Walls were a little thin in our French Villa room, though the whole place is so peaceful it wasn't a huge issue There are steps around the gardens and up to some of the rooms, but staff will help with luggage" - Alice Tegg

Ancient Hue is both a restaurant and cultural space, set in a beautiful garden house. The dishes are inspired by royal cuisine, presented artistically and full of flavor. Dining here felt like enjoying history and art together. It was unforgettable, and I’ll definitely encourage my friends to try this restaurant.

One of the most relaxing stays we've had in Vietnam! The beds are like sleeping on a cloud, with beautifully designed rooms. Incredibly attentive staff who are always happy to help, great spa services and set in a beautiful, quiet location away from the centre, while only being a short taxi ride from any attractions. My only feedback would be similar to other reviews, in that the food in the Vietnamese restaurant is priced quite high for Vietnam vs portion size. There are many great local restaurants nearby which are far more affordable. My food was also cold at one of the breakfasts but this only happened once, so could be a one off. Otherwise I can't fault it and would recommend to anyone!

Overall a fantastic place and experience. Not so near to the so called central area but given the history, one would know why. It is very walkable to the citadel. Very easy and inexpensive for ride hailing. No issues with transport and all the ride hailing drivers have a fantastic attitude. For us, it was good location becos it was away from the hustling bustling in the night. We had the full bac ma villa, fantastic villa. Downside small place small pool small gym, and gym and sauna under maintenance when we were there. We spent 5 nights. Take the black Viet coffee, very good. We found the french restaurant much better food

One of the absolute highlights of our trip to Vietnam was joining the cooking class at Ancient Garden House in Hue. From the very beginning, the whole team welcomed us warmly and made us feel at home. The setting is beautiful, surrounded by traditional architecture and lush greenery, which made the atmosphere even more special. The chefs and instructors were incredibly skilled, patient and always ready to explain every step in detail. They guided us with so much enthusiasm, making the class both educational and fun. We learned how to prepare authentic Hue dishes, discovering new techniques and flavors that we would have never been able to experience otherwise. What really stood out was the kindness and availability of the staff — they were attentive to every need, answered all of our questions and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. It didn’t feel like a tourist activity, but more like being welcomed into a family kitchen. Cooking together, tasting the dishes we created and sharing this experience with other travelers was unforgettable. This class gave us not only delicious food, but also wonderful memories that will stay with us long after the trip. If you are visiting Hue, do not miss this experience — it is by far one of the best things we have done in Vietnam! Luca

Wow!! We finished our 3 night stay at Ancient Hue garden houses this morning and are already missing it. ||||This place is simply perfect. We stayed in 2 connecting rooms in the Gustave Eiffel villa and it was everything we hoped for. ||The rooms were beautifully decorated with charming French Indochine style and spotlessly clean. Definitely the most clean and well kept rooms we have stayed in out of all our Vietnam trip. ||||The staff were so friendly and helpful from everyone we crossed paths with and the breakfast choice was fantastic. So much nicer than a buffet style breakfast at most hotels. ||||It is such a charming boutique style property but with 5 star service and amenities. ||||We will definitely be back again in the future. ||||Thank you to everyone who made our stay so memorable, especially Son.

We stayed for 2 nights in June. we had one room in the old-style part of the hotel for us and one room in the French-style part of the hotel for our adult children (as they can't do twin beds in the old-style rooms). Both rooms were spacious, clean, had lovely bathrooms.||The hotel had two lovely swimming pools - one in each part of the hotel and neither were busy.||Breakfast was all ordered (i.e. not a buffet) but you could order over and over if you wanted more of anything, and it was all very tasty. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but they had complimentary afternoon tea - which was a lovely break in the day.||The location is excellent - located centrally in the area of the main sites. Grabs were easy to get.||We did the local sites ourselves and then hired a car+driver (arranged ourselves although the hotel offered) for an afternoon to go around the sites that were further afield (the three main tombs and the abandoned water park).||The hotel team were very friendly and helpful.||This was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and we would definitely stay there again.

We had the pleasure so stay 3 nights on this fantastic Hue resort-like hotel where rooms are located in separate houses. Its location is great, close to the Citadel and very quiet. The grounds are fabulous, gives you an intimate feeling, it's like walking in paradise. They have relatively few rooms and we had the top King suite, a very spacious room with a high ceiling and ultra quiet, with a very comfortable king-size bed and great pillows. But the most outstanding feature is the incomparable good service from all their personnel, who treat you as if you are the only guest and make you feel at home. They also provide a suite of tours and transport services so one never has to go through the trouble of arranging it somehow with outside companies.||I don't know if I ever will be back in Hue, but if I do I will not even bother to look for another place to stay than Ancient Hue Garden Houses. It belongs to a rare pinnacle of outstanding hotels.
