"One of just a handful of two-Michelin-starred restaurants in Amsterdam , &moshik is helmed by Israeli-Dutch chef Moshik Roth, whose tasting menus are influenced by such far-flung places as Morocco, Vietnam , Japan, and Turkey—as well as The Netherlands. Seasonal menus feature an array of inventive, artfully presented dishes, such as a raw scallop topped with Dutch caviar and pheasant jelly; lamb and pigeon with swirls of fermented lemon gravy and nettle sauce; or North Sea cod and cockles in green pea miso. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the elegant, 55-seat dining room provide beautiful views overlooking the scenic Oosterdok harbor, just steps from Centraal Station. If you can’t swing the cost of the tasting menus (€175 for five courses or €230 for seven courses, excluding wine), opt for the far more affordable three-course business lunch, offered Fridays and Sundays (€64.50 without wine)."

Food is good enough, served promptly, and portions are decent. The friendly / knowledgeable staff adds to the experience. I didn't like the space, distribution of tables, seating in booths is uncomfortable, and subtracts from the experience.... Especially considering the price. I don't have any general complaint, however for a 2-Michelin star restaurant, I'd expect every single dish to be out of this world... And this want the case, one or two were espectacular, the rest, more on the good side.

Incredible 2 Michelin star just a couple of minutes walk from Amsterdam central station. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, perfectly balanced between classy and dutch casual. We went for the short tasting menu, which at the end turned out to be way more than we were expecting. I dined recently in Michelin stars in Iceland and London and the price they offer for the quality of the food is unbeatable. Having worked in Japan myself I loved the incorporation of those ingredients with Mediterranean and Israeli flavors. I loved everything, even though I don’t really enjoy the taste of pigeon, I must say that it was surprisingly good. The front of house is well prepared and ready to take time and accommodate any request. It was a very pleasant experience and I wish to come back again. Thanks guys

Google
A great experience with amazing and innovative combination of dishes that i would have never dare to come up with myself. very intresting flavours that Exploded in my mouth to a degree that i found myself wanting more of that amazing taste but came to the sad conclusion I already finished my plate! Sublime array of wines that went very well with every dish served and excellent staff who made us feel very welcome. A very hip but elegant interieur with an amazing view over the canal. All in all a great and most of all special experience that i would recommend to everyone!

I want sure what to expect at &moshik when I booked. I knew it had two Michelin stars and I knew the reputation of the chef.. I wasn't expecting such attentive and personal service especially at a one top in a restaurant full of 4+ tops tables. The restaurant and its views, both of the canal and the kitchen, is warm and cozy without feeling cramped. The service from arrival to physically walking me to the door and waving goodbye was exactly what you would expect from such a reputable establishment. The food starts out interesting and moves into sublime by the time you get to the end of the courses you are ready to throw in the towel by the time they bring the freshly made treats trolley around. I can't say enough good things about their choices from what to serve and what to serve with what they serve. The wine pairings took me out of my normal Napa snobbery on a heavily Spanish tour. There was one wine in particular that didn't drink well alone, but was a great pair with the dish. I have eaten at great restaurants all over the world and &moshik belongs in that group. I will return if I can!

The combination of magical food, excellent service and utmost accuracy on the smallest details makes the experience a memorable moment. From the moment you enter the restaurant to the moment of departure, everything is just perfect! The service and ofcourse the perfect food leaves you speechless. No wonder this restaurant has 2 Michelin stars. In one word - Wow!

Google
One of our best experiences, the place is extreme, the food, the service, nothing is compromised in this place. Fridays and Sundays have specials meals for good prices 70 or 100 euros for the full meal (extra is for wines between the dishes, before and after). The staff surprise you with little chef dishes. So get ready for a rainbow of tastes.

Google
Not sure how they got the two M stars. Service was fair, but nothing more then fair. Food was full of foam. They are not untasty, somehow too plain to be remembered. Portions were small. Side bread are not warm. Bread have been generously and repeatedly served the whole night together with the entry, first course, second course. With this budget I advise you go to Restaurant Spectrum, it might be more worth to spend an evening then here.

Yelp
I thought about how to rate this place a long time and decided the most it deserves is 3 stars. At this level of restaurant, I simply expect way more. It's one of 4, two Michelin starred restaurants in Amsterdam and, supposed to the best of the best but, I struggled to figure out why. Nothing about the evening really made me think it warranted such a high star rating. The staff are very nice here and that was the saving grace to the evening. The food whilst sounded interesting and inventive was anything but. It was showmanship that lacked the wow factor. The best dishes of the night were the amuse bouche. I had almost all dishes prepared at the table and almost every dish had foam of some kind. I am sorry but foam is so last season, specially when almost every course comes with it. Wine list was ok but lacked decent priced wine options. The service was good but lacking the full attention to detail like specific instructions that were not followed or, failing to bring things without being asked or perhaps, asked twice. This is simply not the level one should expect in a place like this. The food was ok. I have never been to a Michelin restaurant where courses were sent back uneaten or staff failed to ask why we are sending something back. I found many of the courses too salty and the layout of the place did not easily facilitate table-side cooking. The vegetarian main of "cous cous" was bland and both of the people sent it back partly eaten. All three of us sent back the cabbage and my favourite dish of the evening was the sweetbread. The rest were unimaginative at best. At best I would give it 2.5 stars for the food and 4 for service. Value for money is a 2. I informed one of the waitresses when we arrived that it was my sons 30th. In any other place including my local Bavarian he would have got a small cake with a candle and here nothing. We did not even get offered the petit four as I had asked for the bill. In most such places we would have been sent away with a nice box of petit fours and so on and so forth. For what you pay for a meal here I just expect more. Pretty disappointed with the overall experience and we have been to tons of Michelin restaurants around the world.

Yelp
We have been to many Michelin star restaurants, including four others in the past month, but this may have been the best. From the wonderful view and attractive ambiance to the great service to the excellent wine pairing to the incredible food, it was the perfect experience. First, I'll start with the location. Without requesting a special seat, we had a nice booth for four with a wonderful view of the canal and a church. It started with some glare but the staff quickly noticed and lowered a shade, then raised the shade as the sunset so we could enjoy the view and the sunset. The restaurant itself was great, very bright and modern. The staff was also perfect. Our lead server (I'm awful at names) was incredible. She had recently moved to the Netherlands from Portugal (only here a month) but her English was great and her attitude better. She was friendly but not at all phones. She was quite attentive, whenever we needed anything she was there. She did a great job of describing each dish. Most importantly, she really cared that we enjoyed our meal, particularly my son (who is a little cautious in what he eats), doing everything she could to make the meal perfect. The food itself was great. Both my wife and I had the Inspiration Menu, the smaller of two tasting menus, my daughter had a vegetarian tasting menu and my son ordered a la carte. Everything on the inspiration menu was fantastic but I was particularly pleased with the multiple "surprises", small amuse bouche type dishes. It seemed we had a full meal before our tasting menu even started. I also loved the caviar with tuna and octopus, the turbot and pigeon, all were incredible. They tasted fantastic and beautiful presentation. The only problem with the restaurant is it will make future meals seem bleh, no matter how good they are. I will never forget this dinner.

Yelp
I liked this place a lot, however after a full week of eating out three meals a day my pallet was a little off. I would like to try this place again at the beginning of my next trip. Loved the ambiance and the five courses chef special, which is more like 8-9 courses takes you on a trip around the world, you feel like you have traveled to ASIA, Europe, South America and the US. One of my favorite things was the tomato burger which is a staple and a must try. The meatball dish was very tasty also the dessert. Prices reasonable for the quantity, quality and experience that you get. Staff did an excellent job with the service.

Yelp
Be prepared for 2.5-3 hours of great food and service from this top rated Michelin restaurant that doesn't fail to impress. From the moment you enter and sit down, the presentation and delivery from the servers to the food are excellent and the food absolutely amazing. Be prepared to also spend $$$$$, eating here is like a 5 Star event you don't want to miss if your looking for the best in fine star dining

Yelp
The food was fabulous. Each dish was complex and surprising. Tasted great and looked elegant. The service was excellent but I still felt that it was a bit cold. I would have preferred a more homey/friendly touch. Very expensive!

Yelp
Definitely the best restaurant I personally ate in. Great and polite service people, food was very precise and amazing tastes. Chef Moshik came to our table few times to ask if everything is ok, very nice guy. Will definitely be back next visit in town.

Yelp
Man, when you can make sunflower seeds taste wonderfully addictive, you've got skillz. Despite it being a posh environment (all crystal, I mean even the complementary olives were served with crystal tooth picks!!! Do you think they count them, what'd you reckon?) we never felt unconfortable or out of place. We'd booked for an early dinner in the lounge and arrived early, so we're ridiculously early. We were there even before the beef had arrived for dinner session that evening. But when I mentioned we were was so looking foreward to trying out their cote de boeuf, they did everything in their power to make that happen. So, big ups to the staff!!! My mom said it was the best beef dish she had in a while and maybe ever! You have to keep in mind, however, this was after she'd had 2 ginger mojitos and 1 glass of red wine. If I would ask her about this dish in about 2 months, she'll be like what beef dish. That cote de boeuf was memorable nonetheless!!! We also tried the toast brioche (2nd favorite) and their signature dish "& tomeato", a vegi burger made of tomato so concentrated it almost tasted beefy. Mom also loved the halibut ceviche, well, the garnish of the halibut ceviche. The ceviche was served in a cocktail glass with some vegetable garnish on top and the ceviche in the bottom. We were sharing all dishes, so my mom handed the glass to me after having some herself. I asked her how the dish was and looked at her plate. Mom: yes it's nice....Me: mom, you didn't have any fish!? Mom; oh, there's fish? Yes mom, ceviche is fish... There's glass everywhere. Behind those big windows, it's see and be seen. Or perhaps it was because half way through dinner I started stripping. The sun was out that day and it was starting to become simmering hot behind all that glass. I sincerely hope they've installed some kind of airco, otherwise I can imagine it would become unbearable during summertimes. They might get away with postponing it for another year though, since it seems like we'll be skipping summer this year. If the temperatures won't rise above 25C, the windows are great for people watching, providing a perfect view of the crowds passing by the waterfront. Besides, if it gets too hot inside, there is always the option of taking a seat at 1 of the tables on the patio. All in all, I'd say we had a(n) (almost) perfect evening.

Yelp
Short version of review: Food is just okay (but definitely not 2 Michelin star caliber), service was not good (except for one waiter was alright), and prices are ridiculously high given the food/service that was provided. Long version of review: We were looking forward to this meal very much as it was the only Michelin star restaurant that we made reservations for ahead of time before our travels. *Arrived at 8:20pm for our 8:30pm reservation, was seated immediately, but at a small table by a corner near the kitchen facing another table that was by the window with a beautiful view of the canal. If guests were to sit there, they would be our view. There were nobody seated there so why not seat us there? I thought to myself, maybe because we arrived early and that table was reserved for 8:30pm or 9:00pm?? Anyway, at 8:35pm when they still haven't brought over the menu, I asked the hostess if that table was reserved and if we could sit there instead. The hostess said she doesn't know but will check for us. She came back and said we could sit there. Okay... So we moved and I should be happy with the gorgeous view but not so much Bc I didn't understand why in the world I had to ASK for it. It should have been an option to us if not our table... Because nobody else came to sit at that small table we were originally seated at! *Was given the wine list on an iPad by was not explained to how to use it. There is a "send" button next to each wine. Do we touch send and our selection with be sent to the kitchen?! Asked and the answer is No. Pressing send will allow you to send the info of the wine to your email. *We chose the four course menu bc our appetites weren't that big and the other options weren't particularly enticing. One of the small "dim sum" items came to us and the one they gave me had actually fallen over on the plate. I had not noticed at first but then thought it was weird that the flower was at the bottom, almost squished. Husband swapped his with mine and told me that the waiter saw it fall over and had an "oh no" expression on his face. My thoughts? The waiter should not have served that. He should have went to the kitchen to get a new one. *We could hear the chef yelling at his staff in the kitchen. He sounded super angry. I guess I would be angry too if the staff I hired aren't so bright. But it was a bit disruptive to our meal. Also heard either plates or something else fall loudly onto the kitchen floor. Are we in a Chinese restaurant having dim sum now? *Our four course menu and three glasses of wine costed 400+ usd. Not expensive if this two star M restaurant was good, but it wasn't and we left feeling mistreated, lied to, and played. None of the dishes wow'ed us and quite frankly, we didn't feel like this place is a two M star place and probably not even one.

Yelp
This is probably one of the best new restaurants in town. High quality and good food. Had one of the best times ever. The restaurant is located pretty close to Ams CS with plenty of parking underground with a great view of the city. Do even miss it!!!

Yelp
We were greeted with a lovely warm and welcoming smile accompanied by a complimentary drink made with limoncello, a very nice greeting indeed. The staff here really aims to please. That can make any meal much better and the overall experience more enjoyable. The staff was attentive, friendly and pleasant. I'd like to take a few of them home. Hehe. The food was certainly tasty, intriguing and innovative. We had a four course meal which was a very interesting salad made with kimchi, a spring roll with a flavorful sauce, a burger made from tomatoes and a nice dessert with vanilla ice cream. Well done! The restaurant itself I would describe as simply elegant. Simply and elegant. It's definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
First off, thought most of the food here was pretty good, when we finally got it. After being seated, we waited about an hour before we were presented with a drinks list (our water was also very very very very rarely refilled). The whole staff had this "deer in headlights" look. I believe it was about 90+ minutes until our first tiny courses started arriving. The wait staff didn't bother to clean up our table after crumbs and other bits detritus covered it. Oh my god I'm going to be such an annoying nit picky a-hole here too, but the size of the table was also weirdly large - our whole group of 4 felt disconnected from each other. The view was nice but at the moment it overlooks a big pile of construction and dirt. This meal ended up taking around 4 hours, and it being our last night in Amsterdam, basically kept it from being able to see any more of the city after it was done (we had reservations for 9p and it was around 1a when we left). The wait staff politely asked if we wanted a cab called, and we were like "OK, sure" - (again, I feel really really bad for them in this situation) - it ended up being another 20+ minutes for a cab to arrive, and we waited around outside the restaurant - further cementing our exhaustion and effectively killing the night. At points the meal felt like a never-ending torture - you think at least they'd want to keep selling us drinks to keep our moods up? Most everyone else in the place looked like they were in the waiting room for the dentist, or something. Not a lot of mirth, just sort of confusion and hunger. On the positive side - as I said earlier, the food wasn't bad, and the wait staff themselves were gregarious and charming (pretty dope blue suits and sneakers) - I think they're just overwhelmed or there's some kind of mess happening with how they run their kitchen. It seriously felt like an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" or some Gordon Ramsey show. Really wish we would have gone somewhere else to enjoy our last night in town, but we'll laugh about how ridiculously weird this meal was for years to come, so that's got to count for something, right??? And now I can check "write a bitchy review about a super expensive restaurant" off my bucket list. First world problems, am I right?

Yelp
After hearing Vartika G. talk about this place when it opened, we finally decided to try it out for a casual lunch. Even though it is sort of unassuming from the outside, &Samhoud Places is every bit grand on the inside. This review is for the brief experience at the lounge downstairs. I intend to do the fancy upstairs dinner thing sometime soon, too, though. As soon as we walked in, we were briefly told about the specialties of the restaurant. Having read a little about the restaurant and the acclaimed chef, I was prepared to be impressed. We decided to get a small window facing table where we could watch people walk by. The menus were elegantly designed, as was practically everything inside. I loved the leather bound drinks menu that also had pages upside down, so it was easy for everyone at the table to look at. I decided to get the famous tomato burger. It came with a side of home fries, and not a lot of them, as you generally get with burgers. The burger itself was seriously delicious. Will try again! The condiments were all made in-house according to the staff, and were definitely great. I also had a salad on the side, which was different kinds of tomatoes and pears and topped with tomato sorbet. The skinny cutlery was cute, too! The downstairs lounge is a casual lunch destination, and also has free wifi. The staff was all very relaxed and friendly. I see myself spending quite a lot of afternoons working from &samhoud places.

Yelp
After attending multiple 2 and 3 three Michelin starred restaurants around the world I can say that Samhoud Places is not Michelin worthy in my books. The food was tasty but not as clever or creative as I have come to expect and the service was clumsy at best. I would say that this place suffers from poor oversight. Presentation, pacing and sequence of flavors are not impressive, nor do they follow a theme. Ambience is equally confused...hip for foodies or for money waving clientele? Classic haute cuisine or trying to buck the trends? I don't buy it either way. The menu has a familiar structure and as expectations build disappointment sets in. Do they have a sommelier? I don't know. The service seemed confused when my wife asked about wine pairings. Really? At a Michelin restaurant? Why wouldn't you have wine pairings? Well, it turns out they do but I don't understand why that was that ever in question? Seating can also vary as there are some lofty large tables facing the canal, a row of tight diner style tables off to the side and some in front of an open kitchen. Any choices? No. And yet it can change the experience completely depending on the consumer. Foodies might dig the work of the chefs while romantics want a view of the city. It may seem petty but that is what you paying for with a 2 star Michelin experience. Money aside, I honestly feel duped into a meal that didn't hold up to its end of the bargain. Moshik talks about "Taste has everything to do with a composition of memories" .... Well, this is one that I'll remember for all the wrong reasons. Want a good experience? Think of French Laundry, Alinea, Grace, Inn at Meadowood ... heck even go down the street to Librijie Zusje and you'll get an experience that is worlds apart from this place. Samhoud, I know this sounds generically harsh, but it is uncharacteristic of my other reviews. I also feel obliged to provide some constructive criticism: - don't wait an hour between the first drink and the amuse bouche. This is the moment of greatest anticipation and interest. Nobody eats a whole pizza before coming to a tasting menu. We come hungry and interested. - pick a person who can describe all of the dishes and also know how to answer questions. Ever have the chefs come out to present? That spells passion. - if you have a dish that deserves a table side presentation, don't do it behind of the person you are serving, otherwise, what's the point? If I can't see what you are doing, then just do it in the kitchen. - the butter on the table had a peel-on label. That hardly oozes of 'hand-made' freshness. Make you're own. - wait staff shouldn't look at their watches at the end of a meal. It sends the message that they want to go home and are done providing service. - ditch the coaster-sized print out of what Moshik thinks about his food. It's patronizing. Instead, hand out a copy of the tasting menu itself and a little gift (chocolate, cookies .... even a hand written note) at the end of the meal. This is something I've seen from every great Michelin starred restaurant thus far. - if you are going to feature a dish by a renown artist like Damien Hirst, at least give him the honor of presenting an art piece by the dish or in the restaurant so that people can connect the food with the art. I can imagine a lot of people saying "sure, you are bitching about the service and ambiance, but what about the food?" Personally I liked the taste of the majority of the Autumn Inspiration menu. It didn't blow my mind but my tastes may not be the same as yours and they are also continuing to develop as I experience other restaurants. So how are you going to gauge your meal on what I thought of the sweetbread (which was sublime)? Plus, the menu changes with the seasons, so you probably will be eating a different meal altogether. So, my only advice is to read the other reviews and figure out if this restaurant has the ability to satisfy your expectations before you really decide to go.

Yelp
When you think about a two star Michelin, this is precisely what comes to mind. For once the staff was equal male and female, both had the same outfit of a blue suit and sneakers. The kitchen is clean and the meal pacing impeccable. One issue is the price. The shorter sampling was 150€ and the longer 200€. The Wagu upgrade was 60€ alone and the great wine selection is no bargain. A mid range bottle goes for 160€. But if you can afford, this place has charm, class and the meal was superb. The location is off the center next to the train station and the cab ride will cost 10€. We walked back home in the fresh autumn night and I know we should have done so on the way these. I strongly recommend the appetizers, they make a greater statement than the entree. The dessert was breathtaking; a Mille-feuilles made to perfection.

Yelp
OK let me start by giving a little glimpse into myself and my culinary journey through various well known restaurants. The industry survives on service and that's something you can't teach the neo age contemporaries who can't even spell humility. Having caviar truffle and wagu beef in your menu does not result in a culinary excellence in fact quite the opposite, just reflect the chefs desperation to prove they know the f of fine. Any hoo my experience was horrid we walked in asking for a few cocktails as we still were not quite sure of eating as we were trying to settle our 3 year old daughter. When the server asked us again for the second time we mentioned that we were good at the moment and would like to start with the cocktails and drinks as our daughter was hounding us for the Apple juice. In comes this pissed off women and says " sorry if you want to drink cocktails you can go over there to the hilton to the longe we are a restaurant". Fine we said and walked away without being served one sip of water and that's the tragedy of their existence. You can be a a genius in your menu but if u lakh basic etiquette and service you existence is in vain. Will not recomended this restaurant to even our enemy. If they raise the price of their menu by one cent they will probably be invaded by America. Give it a miss and feel satisfied you did not miss much.

Yelp
Definitely earned their Michelin stars! We had the "Inspiration menu" with the wine paring. Most of the dishes were spot on perfection: creative flavors, textures, temperature, presentation, all perfectly balanced. The dishes are indescribable because applying one's imagination to the main ingredients still doesn't get you close to the subtle, complex combination of flavors. There were a few dishes that were less than perfect, but still very good. Wine pairing was excellent and the staff was friendly, attentive, and invested in giving us an evening to remember. Expensive, but worth it for one of the best meals, and maybe THE best meal I have ever had.

Yelp
I never walked out of a restaurant before, but tonight I did. Let me explain: I enjoyed some really good oysters and wine downstairs at &Samhout places. The service was really good and the waitress explained the philososophy behind &Samhout places. I can really connect with this philosophy about connecting people, but as soon as I saw the menu card when we were seated upstairs I felt trapped! A real annoyance is the fact that the prices are in letters and not in numbers. You don't realize what they ask unless you really think twice. These prices are ridiculous and really don't connect at all with the philosophy. A course for more than one hundred euro ( that is 100,- euro for a plate of food) and a supplement of seventy five euro (that is 75,- euro) made me run back downstairs. I really appreciate good food and I realize it has a prize, but for these prices I like to get valet parking and sit in the atmosphere of a characteristic country house. It just doesn't fit the setting and even worse, the philosophy. Downstairs the menu is way different (hamburgers!) and also not what we were looking for. We left. Still enjoying the taste of oysters and wine, but a little bit less naive about good philosophy's translated into commercial traps. This really felt utterly wrong.

Yelp
Limited menu but creative, Burger was good, bit pricey, "hotel" lounge experience, service was good with very polite staff
