Andreas Keller runs on a first come, first serve basis, no reservations taken. Just call or hop online the day of to get added on the waitlist.
Also, it's underground, yes, you'll have to go full Hobbit to get to your table. (Didn't spot any wheelchair access from where we entered, so you might want to double-check.)
We visited on a lively Saturday evening and were immediately whisked into an old-world Bavarian wonderland. Live accordion music by Jakob Bean had me feeling like I just stumbled into Oktoberfest and should be wearing lederhosen (which the staff & Jakob were) and holding a stein.
The hostess was friendly & quick to check us in, lead us to our cozy wooden stall & provide menus. If you're feeling social, the bigger tables might surprise you with some new dining companions - because nothing says "authentic Bavarian experience" like breaking bread with strangers!
After a few minutes of menu browsing, the busser made his debut with water and utensils. Feel we saw him more often than our actual waitress, who popped by briefly to greet, ask if we had any questions, then disappeared into the Bavarian mist. If you're into a less is more approach to service, you'll feel right at home.
The drink menu is as impressive as the pretzels are large. I went with a Helles light lager - a sensible choice, since I had to hit the road the next day. I wasn't trying to overdo it and end up polka dancing all night to Jakob's lively accordion jams.
The beer? Just as expected: light, crisp, and perfect for a Bavarian evening.
For food, I went all-in with the Sahneschnitzel, a breaded and grilled delight smothered in homemade cream sauce, served with Spatzle. It was a hearty portion, and I managed to conquer the entire plate. The Schnitzel was piping hot and flavorful after a quick dash of salt and pepper. The Spatzle, on the other hand, arrived at room temperature and tasted as if it had taken a detour before landing on my plate.
Dessert looked amazing, but alas, there's only so much room in a human stomach.
In a nutshell: Andreas Keller is great for authentic Bavarian eats and live accordion magic. The food and drinks will keep you merry, and the music will transport you to another era, but don't expect the service to sweep you off your feet. Still, worth the trip!
Prost!
