Andros Island in the Bahamas Has Luxury Hotels, Fresh Seafood, and the Largest Concentration of Blue Holes in the World

"Sprawling across North Andros, Mangrove Cay, and South Andros, I found Andros to be the Bahamas’ largest inhabited island, with 100 miles of clear coastline, abundant wildlife, deserted beaches, and an intricate underwater system beside the Tongue of the Ocean; it’s the bonefishing capital of the world, home to the third-largest barrier reef and the largest concentration of blue sinkholes, and features cultural highlights like a Seminole Indian community in North Andros known for woodwork and Androsia fabric, century-old St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Central Andros, and lively events such as the All Andros Crab Festival and the Red Bays Snapper Tournament." - Kristin Braswell Kristin Braswell Kristin Braswell is a travel journalist and the founder of CrushGlobal Travel. Nothing to do in Andros island, especially when the weather is not very good. You can hardly find palm trees there, mostly pine trees and ordinary bushes. Lack of beaches (need to be cleaned). The flora and the fauna is not impressive at all. This is not an exotic place, but definitely a very quiet non-touristic destination.

Andros has a lot to offer! Their preserved nature parks are amazing, worth checking out the blue holes. We checked few of them, amazing views for days. I highly recommend this island for anyone looking for seclusion, less crowded, preserved nature. We can’t wait to be back and discover south of Andros

Beautiful island hit hard by COVID. No banks there anymore and the one ATM in North Andros was vandalized. Struggling communities and businesses. Most stores and restaurants only accept cash, if they are even open for business. No hospital on island, stay vigilant when out.

It’s been several years since my and oldest son and I were quest of a research project sponsored by Ohio State University. We spent a week at the center. Scouting the mangroves, inland jungle and blue holes, snorkeling was absolutely amazing beautiful. I’ve longed to go back and visit but this time a sailboat with sons and grandsons and granddaughters. This adventure is at top of bucket list.
