Andy Bowie County Park

The park is under construction at the moment. I've been there making deliveries of construction materials. The pier that is being constructed is very nice and provides a great access to the beach.

Full hook ups. Spots are close together. Basically a large parking lot. Short walk to beach. Showers ok, had hot water. Park pass give you free access to access #5, save you 12 bucks.

The beach was very clean! They have bathrooms where you park. Only downside was when we went, they didn't have soap. Other than that it was a great experience. People were maintaining their distance, which was awesome. Most were not wearing masks though. We did make sure to wear our mask when people started getting closer and walking by us. It was not crowded at all, which me it very easy to social distance.

If you’re looking for a quiet retreat in your camper. This is the spot for you. A real good getaway from the crowded parks. Beach a short walk and you can only hear the waves crashing all night. Will return.

It's a decent place to stay. Close to the beach, nice trail to it. Also close to the convention center, laguna Madre nature trail, gift shop and Clayton's! The spots are a bit small and close together for bigger rigs. It's kind of just like a parking lot but with hookups. Nobody spoke to me while I was there, other than at check in, but it's a peaceful place.

Beach was well groomed, and clean. The sand was white and very powdered like white powdered sugar. There must have been 6 or more shades ow blue to green clean water, with nice white caps rolling into the beach. Nice area to visit; South Padre Islands!

Lovely park, nice welcoming friendly staff, ample parking, clean property, $10 entry, but close at 5:30pm Sundays, can't even watch the sunset? That is much too early to close. People smoking cigarettes on the beach gave me a headache, $10 to get a headache, be nice if smoking on the beach was banned, even if it isn't, please don't.

Absolutely stunning. Over all very clean and decent parking. Plenty of rental areas if you need chairs or lounge chairs. Great place to watch the fireworks on Fridays and Saturdays. $10 for my car load and it was good all day so I could come and go as i needed to. The guy in the booth was excellent as well. He an answered all my questions honestly and was very patient with me.

You get what you pay for, I guess. Has hookups, but that's about it. Womens restroom has 2 stools. I have been here 7 days and one stool has been plugged & unusable since I got here. The rv lot has grass around it, but can't walk your dog because grass is full of sand burrs. The "gatekeeper" who was working when I arrived was pretty rude and not at all helpful. Luckily the gentleman the next day was very good. Corrected first guys errors and was super polite & professional. If the weather is nice, could maybe get higher rating, but with rain for days the restrooms are very wet and smellly

I am pleased with our stay here, it is parking lot camping but nice access to the beach, pavilion and restrooms with a shower. Also when you stay here you have access to the Edwin King park just up the street.

Beautiful and even though the wood can use work for the park area it gives you a great view of the ocean which I'll deal with anything uncomfortable to see that !

I'm so thankful for a place that has restrooms and showers! The pavilion area is great for eating. They have rentals for umbrellas, chairs and floaties. Overall it was pretty nice but my one major complaint is the walk to the water is long and the sand is pretty deep... which wouldn't be bad in itself but when the sand is over 100 degrees it burns your feet so bad! They should plant trees along the sides to help shade the walk! Being a pair of deck shoes - flip flops aren't enough to protect your feet from the hot sand.

We've enjoyed Andy Bowie Park for so many years, but had been away for the past 8 since moving away. We had gone to another part of the beach, further south from Andy Bowie, the afternoon before and the beach was clear of seaweed. But when we went Tuedsay morning to the Park, the seaweed had come in overnight. The parking is only $5, for however long you want to stay, and there are showers right by the parking lot. It's all close to the beach, which is convenient if you need to make multiple trips to your car. The showers aren't meant to be be all that comfortable, and they're not. But they come on, the water pressure is good, and they're not on timer knobs like they used to be. You know, the knobs that you press down and they slowly come up until the water shuts off, so the shower lasts 2 minutes and you have to keep pressing it. There are no shower curtains, and there's sand and water everywhere, but you're able to rinse most of the sand off before climbing back into your car. We got there in the morning, about 10:30, and stayed until about 6pm. There are umbrellas and chairs already set up; but if you do sit under the umbrella, you're going to have to pay. There's a young man who walks up and down the beach checking. They're like traps, so he checks periodically to see if he's caught anything. We paid $30 for the big umbrella and 2 chairs. The chairs were a little rusty and rickety, but they were ok for the afternoon. Even with seaweed, which still wasn't that bad, it was a very pleasant afternoon. The water was cold for me, but after several hours in and out of the sun, and the sun warming the water, it felt great on hot skin. The water was clear for the most part, until it kicked up the sand near the shore. The lifeguards on duty were on their toes all day, running into the water a couple of times, but thankfully no one needed them. There's plenty of space to set up your own towels/chairs without having to be shoulder to shoulder with the neighbor; but it was a weekday morning and there were several groups on the beach. It was a fantastic day, tired us all out, but we can't wait to go back.
