This place was busy on a Monday evening, but that told us it probably meant the place were really good. And the crowd was right.
Hands down the best tortilla soup I've ever had! I was going to order a bowl, but the server told me the cup was pretty big, especially if I planned to order entrees. I was skeptical, but she was right - in fact, at other restaurants, I'd have called THIS "cup" a bowl. A generous handful of crisp tortilla strips lay among the thick, smooth broth, and the flavors were well-balanced between the acidity of the tomato and the fattiness of both the chunks of avocado and the cheese (I think I tasted cotija cheese). Next time I come in I'll only be getting the bowl.
We both thought the salsa was delicious - it was bright, flavorful, and fresh. As we had been eating meat all weekend, we opted for vegetarian entrees, and one could hardly tell there was no meat as it was still hearty. I was grateful that the arroz wasn't dry, and though I'm no refried beans lover, most of it disappeared from my plate.
We didn't order margaritas, but all the ones that I saw were delivered in huge, bowl-like glasses. The strawberry version looked especially delicious with a beautiful dense color and a juicy strawberry garnish on the rim.
The service was harried, but the 3 staff members working the room were pleasant and took care of us with refilling our drinks, getting us more chips, and even asking if we'd like to move from one of the bar seats to a table once it became available. Because the space is so narrow and small, the kitchen is right there in the open, so expect to leave the restaurant smelling like the good food you just had.
When it's not super busy, you can sit wherever you find a seat. We didn't know this and just stood around awkwardly for a couple minutes. Watching other diners come in it appeared that when lines began to form, the servers tried to help seat them.
