15 Cinco de Mayo Specials in NYC

"At both the Hell’s Kitchen and Tribeca locations the Añejo celebration starts early (from 11:30 a.m.) with margaritas, cocktails, and Mexican distillations on hand, and later resident tequila sommelier Amanda Swanson will swing through to shake up signature margaritas." - Vanita Salisbury

Google
Tight, narrow restaurant, but the food! The food makes it worth a visit. I almost turned around when I saw the place but my friend said you have to try it. OMG! The food was so good! We had fajitas for 2 and still had leftovers. The margaritas were well made and with generous pours. Highly recommend this place. They also do take out.

Mike P.

Google
Great family Mexican restaurant. Service was slow as only a mom & pop restaurant. Food was awesome, margaritas were great as well. They had just seated a large party prior to us and after a wait to be seated we had no issues. We'll be back.

Google
Caesar is an absolutely amazing chef. I reserved my five-star ratings for the best of the best and this is one of them.

This pace is not what we were lead to believe was a great pace to eat. We walked in and had a disagreement with the waitress about where we sat. From there things went down hill. We are one taco and a burrito. Nothing complicated. We waited one hour and a half for the food to finally arrive. The burrito was nothing more than some chicken in a burrito shell. My wife’s taco was more of the same. The food was sub par. You want good Mexican food, come to golden. We will take you to a place that blows this place away. For about half the price. The portion sizes were small. The place in golden fills the dam plate up! We paid 82 dollars for this food. We left a good tip, despite the horrible service. Don’t waste your time with this place. There has to be better food and service than this.

Google
This family run hole in the wall had some wonderful margaritas, cold beer, but most importantly great tasting home made food. I can highly recommend this location. Come early as the place fills up quickly after 1800. As per usual, I did not take pictures of the food until after I already polished off half of it. Tasted great. First time I had a Chef’s burrito with all the meats cut up and mixed in one burrito. Beef, Chicken, Pork, and Shrimp. I enjoyed it!!

Google
Found this gem on the way to Crested Butt and was glad we did. Read the reviews on yelp everything looked great. Only negative was slow service because it is a Ma and Pop place. The place has a yellow front entrance as wide as one parking spot. We were lucky and got star parking right in front. When we entered we were surprised because it was larger than appeared, with tables and bar is a ling room. We were greeted with a smile and seated at a table in the back. The server provided menus and water. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time and everything came in a reasonable time with drinks first. We ordered a large and small margarita’s. The large was large :-) Chips and salsa were on point and tasted authentic. We ordered the pork tamale and beef enchiladas and taco cheese combo. Being from San Diego i know my mexican food. Ine if the best tameles i have every tasted. The beef in the taco and enchiladas tasted like moms slow cooked roast beef with a mexi seasoning Food was amazing, service was quick and good. Parking is street, you may get lucky like I did right in front. We were there on a Monday 1:30 pm. Tables were available. Check out the menu in the pictures, lots of options. Love this place!

Google
Hands down, the best Mexican food I've had since moving from Texas to Colorado 5 years ago. I've tried a lot of places between Gunnison and Montrose, and this is the only place I'll spend money on Mexican food. The other places are fine for appetizers or drinks... but when I'm craving good Mexican food, best believe I'm coming here! The tacos and enchiladas are delicious. My husband loves their burritos. The chips and salsa aren't the best, but the food is and it's a worthy trade-off! The place is small (which we like), but if you end up seated in the back close to a loud group, your experience might be lacking atmosphere, but that would be the case anywhere.

Google
Anejos is a fabulous family run restaurant with excellent food and drink. It isn’t fast, but excellent food made to order should not be rushed. Take your time, relax and savor! Seating is limited, so go early or late. And thank your hosts, they work hard to make your experience amazing.

Yelp
This is our 2nd visit as we could not just have one chance to try their food as we are traveling. Their chili rellenos are so authentic and delicious. Tried a chicken enchilada with mole sauce- which hit all the marks, too. Ended the first dinner with sopapillas. So many restaurants throughout the US think sopapillas are tortilla chips with cinnamon, honey, and chocolate sauce drizzled over! They made those puffy dough pastry with cinnamon and honey drizzled - delicious! Tonight we tried Cameron's al mojo de ago- oh my the shrimp was large, garlicky and buttery- yum! Our waitress was the best as she knew from our first visit that I love shrimp. She customized ours with whole beans and a small salad with Pico and guacamole. For dessert we had their fried ice cream - one of the best we've ever had! It's a cozy atmosphere but a little noisy. But who cares - this food is spot on! And being a family owned and operated restaurant makes it even more special!

Yelp
"Man, I wish these guys were near us (aka in Denver)." Actual first words after his first bite. Mine were similar: "Omg, me too." Slow cooking. Be ready to wait a bit for your food. They are literally making it when you order. And they're using fresh ingredients. Don't believe me? You can watch them cook your order from our seats at the bar. So, yeah, I promise. Meanwhile, their chips and salsa will keep you busy (fresh, spicy and also one of my favs in a long while too). You can tell a lot by a place's salsa, IMO. The salsa here is house made, daily, I bet, which already tells you a lot. Made daily. Yum. Ok, literally my dude took two bites and made a wish that we could transported these folks to our neck of the woods. I was surprised really, until I had a bite of my spinach enchiladas. Fresh. Well seasoned. Cooked just right (aka, the spinach wasn't slimy, lol). Sooooo very good. Staff were amazing, laid back and super courteous. If we do nothing else when we pass through Gunnison, we will be stopping back by here!

Dan K.

Yelp
Very authentic Mexican food made fresh to order and killer margaritas. Best Mexican food in town

Yelp
Best food and service in Gunnison! The family business is really great. The food is excellent and worth the wait (it's a small place). Anejo is the place to go for dining out!
google avatar

Yelp
Cesar, the artist of Mexican food, created yet another Masterpiece! This time it was the four bean enchiladas layered with pork carnitas and smothered in his delicious red and green sauces....incredible! Another win for Anejos!!!

Yelp
This time was carry out but previously was done in. Both experiences were top notch. What great food and friendly service. The Z guacamole is fresh and delicious. The chili rellanos perfect. Chorizo tacos...mmmm Everything is great!

Susan T.

Yelp
Happy hour drinks are good, food is fresh and tasty. service can be slow and owners are not very friendly at all.

Yelp
Well, sorry to say, not a very good experience at this place. I've been to many Mexican restaurants and eaton many varieties of fajitas, but this has to be at the bottom of my list. I did not appreciate the boiled chicken breast with the lightly grilled sear. No flavor, watery mix of tomatoes, green pepper and onions. But hey, if that's what you're looking for, this is your place. It took forever to bring out the food too. The guy at the bar next to me wasn't very happy waiting for his three tacos. I told em Taco bell is just down the street, and his reply was "I'm heading there now"! I won't be back.

Yelp
We were passing through Gunnison this week and looking for some legit Mexican food. We're pretty picky since were from San Diego but Anejo looked awesome. We had a great meal! First we ordered a couple of house margaritas I ordered the large it looked like a fishbowl obviously it was huge even the medium one was pretty big like the size of a normal margarita the large was 7:50 in the medium was 550 very reasonably priced not only do they have a good strong margaritas they have great food I ordered a pork tamale à la carte and it was amazing the MASA was tender and moist and the pork was amazing. My hubby ordered a beef taco and two beef enchiladas and they were so good. The beef tasted just like a Sunday pot roast but Mexican style! Also really good chips and salsa are provided during the meal. Service is great love the ambience just a little mom and pop place with the dude cooking and mom taking the food orders. Will be coming back by here or in the future will be in Gunnison again in the fall so I'll definitely hit this place again.

Yelp
Solid food, enjoyed the chicken verde burrito, huge portion, needed more green chili but was good. Prices on lil higher side but what isn't now. I'd go back, great selection of tequila for margs

Max S.

Yelp
One of the worst meals I've had in a while. Took an hour for us to get our food and everything across the board was bland and felt like it came from a can. Our waitress was rude and basically ignored us the whole time. If I could give 0 stars I would. I am starting to think all the reviews here are fake.

Monica M.

Yelp
Best Wings of our life !!! We try wings everywhere we go Great service , everything was perfection .

Dalton R.

Yelp
super slow service, we waited close to 45 mins to have our order taken. Not great house margaritas, food was not great. I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
My family and I are on a road trip. We were passing through town and wanted good food. After looking at all the reviews of restaurants nearby, we decided on this restaurant. We got there around 8:00pm on a Tuesday. The restaurant is pretty small and was full when we got there. We were told a twenty minute wait and got seated in that time. I honestly believe the wait is worth it. I had the adobada tacos. They were delicious! The rice didn't taste like the usual Mexican rice. It was more buttery but that's what made it taste really good. It included black beans in the dish. They were decent. I really liked there homemade salsa that was served with chips. I added that salsa to my tacos instead of what it came with. I doubt I'll ever be in town again but if I am I'll be back!

Katie M.

Yelp
Best Mexican food I've had in a long time. Everything tasted homemade and great flavors. Highly recommend!

Bach W.

Yelp
service was so ahh took an hour for food so i stroked my veiny ah dih to make up time. food was awful after and enviroment sucked balls with fat kids everywhere.

Yelp
I must say for a small town like Gunnison, Colorado they have some very good authentic mexican food. I was so suprised by the assortment of resturant you an choose from. I really enjoy Anejo's Bistro the house margarita is the best I've ever had. The food very flavorful and the atmosphere very eclectic. Its a true authentic mexican resturant with a BIG PUNCH!! My co workers joined me for dinner and we also got there for there awesome happy hour 4 to 6pm. Leslie was our waittress and she told us that her mom makes the juices that create such an magnificent margarita. Leslie was very eduacated on the tequilas and the food. Ask fot her when you go dine there. We had dinner of course I went dor the shrimp fajitas they were delicious and prepared perfectly. My co worker Mekkel had the barrito it was huge he stated that the brown sauce had a kick. He devoured that burrito. My co worker Myron had the Carna Asada with onions and cactus he stated that, that was the best carna asada he ever had. He a Dallas Fort Worth, TX they have a huge amount of mexican restaurants so he's had hes share of carna asada. My co worker Joe had these tortitos with sauce he really enjoyed hes dish as well. I can't seem to get enough of this place but i have 2 more weeks in Gunnison, Colorado. I will be checking out more great eats until next time my Yelpers #FOODIE4LIFE.

Yelp
This rating is for the yelp app or could be for the restaurant but came by at 8:30 on a Friday and was told they're closed but yelp app says they're open till 10pm.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican Food, which at first it was hard for me to believe given its location but this is the real deal. Small place with street parking. The only downside is they do take a long time to make, serve your food and charge you.

Jeromiah G.

Yelp
The food is pretty good. The service is honestly whatever. Takes awhile to get food sometimes. They have really good drinks and the ambiance inside is nice.

Greg T.

Yelp
This Mexican spot is pure fire. Highly recommend it if you are in town. Everyone is very hostpitable

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Food is excellent. Family owned. The adobada tacos are fantastic! My kiddos love the tamales and cheese dip.

Grady M.

Yelp
I love the food here. Every dish is made fresh and is authentic. The adobada tacos are my favorite and the margaritas are strong and delicious. The service is top notch as well. This is a family owned business and prob my favorite restaurant in Gunnison. Stop in for authentic food and delicious drinks.

Yelp
3.5 rounded up. This is a very casual Mexican eatery, with a short-order cook working behind a counter on a hot griddle making taco fillings and putting together your plates. You can chose to sit at the limited bar seating up front or some small wooden tables in back (better suited for family groups). Overall, not impressed with the layout of a full working kitchen (opening and shutting fridges, cleaning the griddle etc.) being the center piece of the restaurant. Still, there are quirky decorations to make the place seem colorful and inviting. Can't knock a casual cafe atmosphere really. We pulled in for some margaritas and boy were we hit with a sledgehammer level of margarita! The tequila is strong here. It didn't taste of a cheap store-bought mix, and I thought the drink was well put together with authenticity and a decent tequila. I couldn't believe the size of the large for $5, because that would cost me at least $13 in Washington DC. The $5 is their happy hour price for a large margarita. Well I was hurting half-way through...so I didn't finish it. The lovely service included complementary chips and salsa (the latter tasting sharp and perfectly zesty, a very well done mix). I didn't have Mexican food elsewhere in Gunnison so I cannot compare but their location downtown and their cosy, loud vibe is quite warming. Not to mention their heavy handed tequila pours.

John S.

Yelp
Kind service and consistently delicious food. Best place in town for mexican food. Small kitchen so wait time can be long but always worth it for an amazing product. Restaurant is small as well so not the best for a large party.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Really, really good, authentic Mexican cuisine. Tasty and powerful margaritas. Very nice folks. The chef is essentially a one person band so, since the food is cooked to order, the dining experience here is very similar to what you would experience in Italy or France -- you will be there a while, so enjoy the company of your dining companions, order a second margarita and relax. The wait is absolutely worth it.

Tom M.

Yelp
If you are expecting the staff to pay attention to you or are in a hurry, turn around. But, if food is all that matters, patiently wait to be seated. Had the steak tacos and tamales and they were great.

Charlene R.

Yelp
We left before ordering and went across the street to an outdoor Mexican restaurant. We left because we were not greeted well and we found the menu to be a bit pricey for lunch. I would recommend El Paraíso across the street on a nice day. They do have indoor seating as well. Staff was friendly and food was ok.
google avatar

Kristin M.

Yelp
This is definitely my FAVORITE place in Gunnison and by far some of the best Mexican in the state! Everything is super delicious. The margs are killer, beware, lol! I come here often and recently took my sister and her family. My brother-in-law said it was the best Mexican meal he had eaten in years. My sister is picky and said the flautas were "life changing" . I ighly recommend Anejo's!
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Only good Mexican food in town. The restaurant is a little small, so good luck getting a table. Call and order for pickup, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
Place is not open for lunch today. Saturday. August 14 11:30. Yelp said open. Hours or if they are still open need to be updated.

Marta B.

Yelp
Great fajitas and rellenos!! Will definitely return when in Gunnison! Small place with character and yummy margaritas.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Anejo best Mexican restaurant in Gunnison. Family run restaurant with a one man culinary genius in the kitchen. Food is authentic and full of flavor. I ordered the Cazuela de Mariscos, which is seafood cooked in a garlic sauce. Comes with shrimp, scallops and muscles, all cooked to perfection. Rice was buttery and flakey, not your traditional Mexican rice. Portions are substantial yet because of the flavor it kept me wanting more. I almost likes the plate clean. I highly recommend Anejo if you are in the mood for Mexican cuisine
google avatar

Janusz W.

Yelp
The food is decent but a bit pricey. However a 30+ minute wait for a simple takeout order on a moderately paced night is unacceptable, especially when we were waiting outside.
google avatar

Hopeless Coffee A.

Yelp
As another Yelper says "this place has a large open kitchen" so you would have to close your eyes not to see into it. So there are no heat lamps here as one person suggested so do not be discouraged. I was shocked by how good the food here is! In a mountain town of 5,800 I didn't think I would find good Mexican food but thank God I did! As of this writing I have eaten at this place three time since I have been in Gunnison and I am sure I'll go again before I leave. The staff, which looks like a father, daughter & two sons that works all day, are starting to recognize my wife and I. This place is narrow and colorful (festive) with limited table seating but a lot of bar seating. The bar seating on the west side of the restaurant is a little awkward but after a few of their awesome margaritas you want even notice. We have had burritos, carne asada & fish tacos (the fish tacos tasted great and fresh), chili rellenos and red enchiladas; all are excellent choices. If you like Mexican food and margaritas you have to give this place a try while in Gunnison.
google avatar

Shelly V.

Yelp
We were in Gunnison for a few nights between Christmas and New Year's. We placed a carryout order and were not disappointed! The chips were handmade (while I was standing there) and delicious! The salsa was amazing! My husband had delicious carnitas. I had chicken enchiladas and my son had tacos. Even better than our meals were the margaritas! They only have house margaritas and these were by far the best house margaritas I've ever had! It is a small place, which made me slightly uncomfortable waiting for my order due to COVID-19. The folks working were working extremely hard and fast to prepare and deliver the orders. We would definitely stop by again when passing through Gunnison. THANK YOU!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Best tortilla soup I've ever had. The corn tortillas are on point and the retried beans are perfect. A great, family run business with excellent service.
google avatar

Don A.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. Very narrow front on the south end of Main Street, across the street from an all sombrero no cattle Mexican place that only gets 3.5 stars...so you might wonder if you should go in given the relative obscure entrance to the place, but once you do you are welcome by a member of the family that runs it and they obviously feel confident that you will soon be glad you are there. Right to the food...you walk by the open kitchen on the way to the tables and you can readily see you have nothing to fear, clean well managed kitchen. We ordered a variety of things from Tamales to tacos to enchiladas and they were all perfect Colorado style Mexican, no tex-mex. So, if you are in Gunnison...this is a must place for lunch or dinner!

Bob U.

Yelp
Don't go here if you're in a hurry. Enjoy the best salsa I've ever had. We shared a fajita combo, steak and chicken. Fresh, good meats and vegetables- good selection of beers and desserts. We had Mexican beers, had to skip dessert! The have a huge selection of margaritas and Tequilas- but they really charge for them. Fajitas were very good, a little pricey
google avatar

Gretchen K.

Yelp
Family run business with artisan food. Does not disappoint! Sometimes takes a bit for food to arrive due to popularity of the place, but each plate is made by one chef in the open kitchen, and the guy has it going on. I'm a fan.
google avatar

Simone S.

Yelp
This restaurant we found by accident walking around had the best pork Tamales I ever had. The masa was so fresh made that it would melt in my mouth. I will come back. Loved the good. The margarita was the best too.
google avatar

Amala P.

Yelp
Best authentic Mexican food I have had in a long time!! The cheese dip is legit, the shrimp tacos are to die for and the margaritas bring it home. Thank you!!!
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
The salsa is perfection. Who is anyone kidding, we all come to Mexican food restaurants to glutton out on salsa, chips, and margs. I didn't partake in a marg this trip cause it was a Monday lunch but HOT DAMN, this place has the best salsa and chips in Colorado. So dang good. I couldn't decide between the carnitas or steak Mexican tacos so I got one of each. The steak was way tastier. I would probably give this place 5 stars if the beans and rice were better but really, does anyone give a shit about beans and rice? Probs not.

G D.

Yelp
Love this place. We always eat here when visiting or passing through Gunnison. The fish tacos are awesome. The house marg is tasty, strong and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Yelp
Yelp reviews seemed pretty good for Anejo's but being from South Texas and loving Tex-Mex, you never know what to expect outside of your comfort zone when it comes to Mexican food. Upon the advice of a local, my dad and I decided to try Anejo's for lunch. It's a tiny little place with only about 8 tables and seating for 20 or so, but we were a little late for lunch and there were seats available without a wait. Service was excellent during the entire meal and our waiter was easy to have a conversation with. He answered our questions and made great suggestions. The chips and salsa were a great start! We went through 2 baskets and a refill of salsa. I had beef enchiladas with red sauce and rice. My dad had shrimp quesadillas with guacamole on the side. We were both extremely pleased with our meals. I really like good Mexican rice and this was some of the best I've had. My dad really enjoyed the guacamole and said there was a certain taste to it that he couldn't identify. After asking our waiter about it, he asked the kitchen but they would not reveal their secret! (which you have to respect) I'm visiting for another week or so and I know we will be back at least once more before I leave.
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
This Mexican restaurant stands out above and beyond the 8 other ones. My favorite dish is the gusiado carnities, the pork is so tender, moist & flavorful. The tortillas are homemade along with their chips. The mole is very tasty, as with all the dishes that I've tried. I go there once a week and try to mix it up. Their picante sauce is really good to. I also love their mole.
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
This place was busy on a Monday evening, but that told us it probably meant the place were really good. And the crowd was right. Hands down the best tortilla soup I've ever had! I was going to order a bowl, but the server told me the cup was pretty big, especially if I planned to order entrees. I was skeptical, but she was right - in fact, at other restaurants, I'd have called THIS "cup" a bowl. A generous handful of crisp tortilla strips lay among the thick, smooth broth, and the flavors were well-balanced between the acidity of the tomato and the fattiness of both the chunks of avocado and the cheese (I think I tasted cotija cheese). Next time I come in I'll only be getting the bowl. We both thought the salsa was delicious - it was bright, flavorful, and fresh. As we had been eating meat all weekend, we opted for vegetarian entrees, and one could hardly tell there was no meat as it was still hearty. I was grateful that the arroz wasn't dry, and though I'm no refried beans lover, most of it disappeared from my plate. We didn't order margaritas, but all the ones that I saw were delivered in huge, bowl-like glasses. The strawberry version looked especially delicious with a beautiful dense color and a juicy strawberry garnish on the rim. The service was harried, but the 3 staff members working the room were pleasant and took care of us with refilling our drinks, getting us more chips, and even asking if we'd like to move from one of the bar seats to a table once it became available. Because the space is so narrow and small, the kitchen is right there in the open, so expect to leave the restaurant smelling like the good food you just had. When it's not super busy, you can sit wherever you find a seat. We didn't know this and just stood around awkwardly for a couple minutes. Watching other diners come in it appeared that when lines began to form, the servers tried to help seat them.
google avatar

Yelp
Why didn't we discover Anejo's sooner? Our service was great, giant margaritas for $5.50, excellent chips an salsa and our entrees were tasty, fresh and sizable. The only thing that would make Anejo's better is if they had an outdoor patio like the Mexican joint across the street.
