Angara Indian and Hakka downtown

Angara Indian & Hakka downtown really hit the spot on a cold Toronto night. The ambience worked perfectly for us. The music was slow and mellow, not loud at all, which made it great for conversations. We were there for a birthday celebration, and the atmosphere genuinely added to the evening. We started with a warm Manchow Soup which was exactly what you need in winter. The Paneer Trio was unbelievably soft, and the Afghani Momos ended up being our favorite appetizer. Gobi Manchurian was just okay, but the Bombay Chicken had good flavor. For mains, the Chef’s Special Paneer Angara and Chicken Angara were absolute winners with great flavor and perfect cooking. Dal Makhani was solid, but the Malai Kofta didn’t quite land for us. Alongside everything, we tried their Masala Soda which was amazing and super refreshing. We ended with Ras Malai and Gulab Jamun, and honestly both were outstanding. If you visit, don’t skip dessert. Angara has its hits and misses, but the highs definitely make it worth coming back.

We visited the restaurant on Valentine’s night and, as expected, there was a long line to get in. The wait was a bit long, but it was absolutely worth it. They seemed a little short-staffed, and it took some time before we received the drinks menu, but once the food arrived, all was forgiven. We ordered quite a few dishes, and everything felt worth every penny. The portion sizes were generous, and we even had plenty to take home. Overall, the food was delicious. The chilli chicken was slightly disappointing, and the lamb special was a bit too salty for our taste, but the rest of the dishes were excellent. Alisha was our server that night, and she did a fantastic job. She was attentive, easy to talk to, and offered great recommendations. Despite managing multiple tables, she remained graceful, professional, and welcoming throughout the evening. Thank you Alisha, for making our experience even better.

Angara Restaurant delivered an outstanding experience for our RBC staff potluck today. Their Indian cuisine was the highlight of the event, featuring freshly made shahi paneer, butter chicken, chicken kebabs, and paneer tikka, with a last-minute addition of delicious samosas at our request—showcasing their flexibility and customer-first attitude. Every dish was full of flavor and authenticity, and the portions were generous enough to satisfy a hungry team—yet the food was so popular that it was all finished by the end of the event. Throughout the process, Angara Restaurant’s service was exceptional. They accommodated our late changes smoothly and maintained excellent communication, making catering for a large staff group completely stress-free. Even provided bowls, plates and cutlery! The entire team raved about the meal, with many people asking where the food came from—clear evidence of its quality and appeal. We will certainly be booking with Angara Restaurant again for future RBC events. Highly recommended for anyone seeking flavorful, authentic Indian cuisine and truly reliable service for gatherings large or small.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I celebrated my birthday last night at this restaurant and it truly exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent and the Hakka-Chinese dishes stood out as authentically delicious. The two lovely ladies who served our table were amazing (wish I remembered their names!) attentive and kind. Highly recommend this spot for a special occasion or just a great meal out!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 Checked out Angara Indian Restaurant in Toronto and honestly, it was kinda mid. The interior’s okay, nothing fancy. Service could def be better — felt a bit slow and not super attentive. Cleanliness was just alright. We got the Chilli Chicken Gravy, and it was way too oily and chewy. Super greasy and didn’t taste fresh at all 😬. Tried the Veg Roadstyle Hakka Noodles too — looked too dark, needed more veggies and less oil. Taste was meh. Only saving grace? The Tandoori Chicken Momos 🔥. Those were actually really good — tender, smoky, and full of flavor. Overall, not terrible but not something I’d crave again. Just one of those “it was okay” kinda spots.

Superb food and service. Alisha was pleasant and gave great recommendations. The Manager met us at the entrance and came to our table. The staff is courteous and ambience is comfortable! Best Chole Bature in Downtown Toronto! 😋 😋 😋 Keep it up, guys 👍

Very delicious Indian food We tried the saag chicken, lamb vindaloo and also the chef dry fish. All the dishes were amazing. My favorite was the chicken dish. The fish was a tad salty for me but still very nice spices..

Angara offers a great dining experience with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. The quality of the dishes really stands out, with good portion sizes. The service was friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get, and it’s a nice spot to visit whether you’re dining casually or celebrating something special.

Great new Indian spot in Queen west! There has been a few restaurants in this location over the past few years, including a higher end vegan Italian most recently. It's a large space and I'm sure the costs associated with this size of operation can be daunting. Now we have Angara as the latest and because this is their second location after the one in Etobicoke they must know what they are doing to give this location a go. The first thing that made me like Angara was the friendly and attentive service, which was welcome! The second thing I liked was the large selection of lunch specials for only $12.99 for a complete meal, wow now that's decent. I like going for lunch so I'm always looking out for a deal, since a la carte ordering is just not practical for a regular work day lunch. And the price makes for a practical experience, not just a special occasion, which is what these businesses rely on for income. There are two lunch special menus, one for Indian and one for Hakka, and in fact I didn't see another dinner menu, just a drinks one so I'm not sure about dinner options. I ordered the chicken vindaloo which was excellent! The perfect spice level, and accompanied by both rice and naan, along with the yoghurt side and some raw onions and cukes. This was all really good, including the fresh naan bread straight from the tandoor was amazing! The other impressive aspect to my lunch special was that the order size was perfect. It was a substantial amount of food, especially since Indian food is rich, but not too much either which allowed me to finish everything with ease and feel very satisfied when done. Highly recommended in the burgeoning Indian restaurant category in this area of downtown. Check it out soon!
