Amazing campground. We stayed in the Cheyenne loop, which was small with a playground and shower house. It was perfect. Site 2 was very nice, site 17 is private with an epic view of the water. Pizza joint up on the weekends, marina with snacks, a very long paved biked trail which was awesome. Highly recommend. Hot springs is about 5 miles down the road which has laundry, restaurants, gas / diesel and alot to do.

This is a great place really has bathrooms. It has plenty of place to paddle. The scenery is awesome and I recommend it to anybody to spend the day out on it.a little crowded on the weekends lots of parking

Really enjoyed the park! Only suggestion is to make sure you know what is open and when. It gets pretty quiet Mondays and Tuesdays of a normal week.

This is a great park. Very clean easy walk to the water. Kid and dog friendly. Only thing negative is that they charge out of state visitor's more fee's. The reason we stay at state and federal parks is to help with our travel budget.

Great views and plenty of space! Would love to come back again when weather is better.

Wonderful place! Camp spots are big and plenty of campgrounds to pick from. The lake is beautiful, and clean. The campground managers keep the property looking great.

Beautiful place. Be careful of rattle snakes. Was out with my dogs and came across a large one... it told us to stay away and my dogs are highly trained on went command. Enjoy this area with caution!

Out of state visitor, came for the Southern Hills Triathlon. Great venue, beautiful reservoir, super clean & raked sandy beach front, paved hike/run/bike trail. The trail is fully paved, so strollers and wheelchairs are possible (be aware, there are some steep sections). Only $8 per day to park. Camp sites available for tents & RVs. There are cabins & lodges to rent too. It's so clean and nice, you'd think you're at a tropical resort. Planning to return next year.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous state recreation area! This state recreation area is located around 1 hour south of Rapid City. It has multiple campgrounds and beach access along the shorelines. We spent the majority of our day biking along the 3.5 mile paved bike trail that follows on the outside of the lake. It was a moderately difficult trail that had it's many ups and downs, however, not too bad considering I was carrying 2 kiddos in a bike trailer that made it heavier and harder to do. Most of the facilities were closed due to Covid but the area as a whole is beautiful, and we cannot wait to go back. If you have a boat, you've got to check this place out. There is another state recreation area on the west side that we didn't get to go to unfortunately but our trip was totally worth it. Another quick note, please ensure that when booking a campsite, you know what you are getting. Many of the sites only haveelectric but some had noth electric and water. Finally, if you live in SD state parks, just go ahead and get the annual membership. By the time you go to Custer once and another time here or another park, it practically pays for itself.

Yelp
We stayed here for the last week. Really nice campground. Well kept and friendly staff. Grass was mowed regularly. Electrical hook ups/no sewer or water hookups. Showers/restrooms available. Cleaned daily. Very quiet and did I mention that lake? It's huge! We own kayaks but we're to busy taking in all the touristy spots to use them. There was a playground across the street from us. Definitely a great place for families. Kayak and bike rentals. Be careful driving at night cows and horses on the road that leads to campground. I would stay here again!!

Yelp
This is a lovely park about ten minutes from Hot Springs. There are abundant swimming opportunities on the shores of the large, clean lake / reservoir. Our campsite was huge, private and afforded amazing and beautiful views. It looks like the main activities here are camping and swimming but it would likely be good for biking and walking/hiking too. A nice state park!

Yelp
This is a GEM! I am really rating the Cheyenne Campgrounds as we were staying a night on our way to Mt Rushmore. Had electrical hook ups and showers. There was nobody around except for the Host and so we had the whole place to ourselves! Bathrooms were very clean and the area was quiet and peaceful (can't imagine though when Sturgis comes around)
