The Essential Guide to Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic

"Set on its own private peninsula, Àni Dominican Republic feels like the pinnacle of luxury: the intimate resort welcomes just one group at a time, accommodates up to 28 guests, and offers sweeping 270-degree sea views with a 30-person staff to manage every detail. I found the all-inclusive experience extremely comprehensive, with private chef and butler service, childcare, excursions and activities, and inclusive spa treatments designed to deliver an exceptionally curated group stay." - Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila is a bilingual travel writer, editor, and content marketer. This Hotelier Is Making Luxury Stays Wheelchair-Accessible

"Sophie Morgan for Condé Nast Traveler: Earlier this year, I visited Àni Resorts in the Dominican Republic. Clearly, the space has been designed with you in mind; the step-free access and widened doorways are heavenly for wheelchair users."

The Ani Hotel is hands down the most beautiful and breathtaking place we’ve ever been. We went for a business trip and brought the family and it completely blew us away. From the moment we arrived, everything was next-level. The views, the design, the energy… pure magic.||The food? Out of this world. Every meal was a culinary masterpiece, and the drinks were perfection. Me and the kids still dreaming about them. The service was beyond exceptional. Francisco (the manager) and his team made us feel like royalty. Their attention to detail, warmth, and care made our stay unforgettable. ||Not a single bug in sight, everything was pristine, and the entire property felt like something out of a dream. It’s perfect for a corporate retreat, a luxury wellness experience, a family adventure, or a getaway with friends. We didn’t want to leave. This place is paradise. 1000% recommend.

I only want to post this review because I walked all the way here from the city centre, assuming that they would have a restaurant available to the public, but they don't. It is strictly private and for guests only. There is a guard by a locked entrance door. Pity!

I just returned from Ani Dominican Republic, and I could not wait to write this review. Where do I begin? | Our arrival at the airport in Santo Domingo, we were greeted and taken through customs like we were very important. After we made our way through customs, we were brought to the VIP lounge where we were greeted by our Guest Services manager Leo. Leo informed us that our bus was ready to bring us to paradise whenever we were ready to board. Every question we had Leo had an answer. Everything we asked for, Leo got it done. If Leo is the first impression of what this trip was going to be, then we knew it was going to be Spectacular, Amazing, wonderful. Any word you can assert here for a great trip. | It is a little bit of a journey. 3 hours to be exact, but that was ok because we had an entire week of paradise ahead of us, oh and some beers and wine for the ladies. When we arrived at Ani, we were greeted with open arms and welcomed by the staff. our host Jazmine took us around the property and showed us where everything was located. She explained every room to us and showed us how everything worked. The best part was the automatic shades that you could put up and down right from your bed with the remote. | The daytime servers, Victor, Eduard, and Faustino were so attentive and accommodating, that by the end of the trip they knew exactly how you liked your coffee, and how you eat your eggs. They did an amazing job at taking care of every little detail, anything you asked for, they got it for you. | The activities were a blast. Soccer set up for the kids, cliff jumping for all, pickleball and tennis, whiffleball, anything we wanted to do Edison and Ronnie to care of it. Those 2 guys really know how to keep everyone engaged and ready for the next adventure. Ronnie took us on a hike one morning, and although it wasn't the easiest, it was a good way to start the day. Edison took others on a bike ride to the town of Rio San Juan, and from what I heard, it was a little challenging, but nothing too bad. Edison and Ronnie almost felt like part of the family, because they were there playing all the sports and pool, shuffleboard, darts, whatever activity we were doing, they were there with us. Apparently, Edison is a well-known cliff diver in the Dominican Republic, something we didn't find out until halfway through our stay #@edisonalcequiez. | The evening time servers Miguel, Jose Luis and Bienvenido, they were all that and a bag of chips, those guys really set the night off right. They were busy making drinks, serving dinner, and then making sure everyone was good for the night cap. I can't thank these guys enough. They made sure you were never empty handed, and knew exactly what you were drinking, and somehow knew when you were ready for another. That mamajuana they got going over there is a tasty little shot to set you right. | The rooms were gigantic and amazing, the beds were the best I have ever slept on. The housekeeping was impeccable. Laundry service provided daily for anything you needed cleaned. The little nighttime surprise gifts when you returned to your room after dinner. The turndown service, both sheets, and shades. How amazing!!!| I could go on for days about the experience we had at Ani. Francisco, as the new guy coming in, made sure everything was up to perfection. If something was amiss, he made sure it was taken care of and fixed. His attention to the details and even the small ones made you feel like you were truly welcomed, and it felt like he wanted you to be there staying at Ani. As his first family staying there, he could have said I am sorry I am new here, but his passion for what he does, and what seems like his love for life and the commitment to his job, he did not do that. Francisco made sure we felt at home. The entire staff at Ani were so welcoming from the faces in the front, to the people behind the scenes that you saw in passing. Everyone there made you feel like you have been friends for years. Thank You to everyone. It truly was a "Trip of a Lifetime." It is the little things that make this place so great.

Beautifully appointed rooms, fantastic common area spaces and activities even replicated in multiple places (water slides, pool and shuffleboard tables, darts, infinity pools). If you wanted to be social, there were lots of shared spaces, and if you didn't, you could find a quiet spot to tuck away that didn't have to be just your own room. Staff were extremely attentive and would do everything in their power to meet any requests. Food and drink were plentiful with lots of options at any time. Highly recommend!

It is difficult to imagine any other Hotel being able to provide a comparable experience. The attentive, warm, and personable staff made connections with each member of our family from young to old. Everyone on the ANI team was proud to be there and be a part of such a group. We appreciate them so much for all the wonderful memories they helped us build.

Stunning and peaceful surroundings are matched by an incredibly attentive staff, making Ani truly an amazing getaway. ||We spent 9 days here celebrating my moms milestone birthday with 10 grandkids and several families. We enjoyed sunset canapé, superb meals with themed nights set in new (stunning) settings on the resort, and daily dips in the piscina naturale (a beautiful swimming cove) and races down the water slide (kids LOVED it!). ||What Ani does incredibly well it attend to all the details, from cooking separate dairy and gluten free meals for me, to bringing poolside afternoon snacks for the kids, to awarding my eager 7 year old a prize for the most trips down the water slide. The staff is personable and attentive and continuously going above and beyond to ensure a good experience. ||We did several of the on site activities, of which the cooking classes and cocktail mixing were a big success with our group. ||Off site we went horseback riding on a near-bye cocoa farm, went on an hike, and took surf lessons at Playa Grande. The experience was greatly enhanced by Edison who oversaw the activities and make sure we were safe and well taken care of. This meant that as a parent I was able to really relax and ‘play’ because someone else was taking care of our safety, packing water bottles, and guiding us. What a treat! We also really enjoyed chatting with him, as well as other Ani staff, who took the time to get to know our group. ||The packages included spa services which we didn’t use as much as we thought. The therapist are professional and give a good relaxation massage but we had a harder time getting them to address more specific concerns or work on problem areas. The services felt more like a standard “cookie cutter” spa massage. I’d love to see the resort invest in their massage therapists and provide them with additional continuing education. I think it would help the spa reach the level of excellence found in the rest of the resort. ||Several people in our group took advantage of the tennis lessons which were more geared towards beginners. It got too hot to play during the day but early mornings worked. ||While there isn’t a beach at the resort, jumping in the ocean and lounging in the infinity pools was great. The ladder to the ocean requires some level of fitness, but with some help even our youngest and oldest members got in at least once. We organized a few beach trips and those were well worth it. The resort was great in helping to organize all our trips. ||Overall we had a magical time at Ani. There are some surprises in store for you if you go that I don’t want to spoil but that I know will bring special memories to your time there!

This property and staff are incredible! The whole experience at Anni Villas DR totally exceeded our expectations. We were a multigenerational group of 15 celebrating our mom’s 80th birthday as well as a few other birthdays throughout our stay. Leading up to our trip the team connected with us to ensure the events we were planning were organized and coordinated with them.||||The staff at Anni managed each of our days incredibly including excursions, meals and events making the experience feel seamless. Their attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and ability to read our needs was amazing. They would go above and beyond to accommodate changes or additions to our schedules and added their own special touches. We could really feel the mutual respect amongst the entire team. It is extremely rare to find a staff that are aligned and can accommodate and cater to a personalized vacation seamlessly and with care.||||The resort speaks for itself. It is stunning. The unobstructed views and design of the property are breathtaking. Truly a spectacular experience for our entire family. Thank you so much to the entire team at Anni.

The Ani is as high end as it gets. The property is beautiful, but the service is what really set the Ani apart from others. The staff is all very kind, can handle any request, is extremely responsive, and fast. At the same time, they are not in your face. They know when to hang back. I’m admittedly a bit of a taskmaster, but I literally can’t be critical of anything. Beautiful property, beautiful rooms, and tremendous service. Nicholas thank you to you and the team
