It was after lunch when we got here and I think they eat late around Wickenburg. We had to wait a while for a table. I come here once in a while because I love that the owner loves President Trump. So do I. The food has a peculiar flavor. Maybe it’s more of a traditional Southwest. I’m not sure how to identify it. If my wife and I had to describe it we agreed on bland. The chile rellano was not at all what I expected. It had two scrambled egg patties (overdone) with cheese and a few chille strips inside. Not a whole chille. Egg is just not what I like. It’s a thing in southwest food I think. Server was very nice and efficient. Sorry. I really wanted to leave a fantastic review. Honestly. I will be prepared next time.

Title: Anita’s Cocina: From Destination to Disappointment Since 2016, I’ve driven from Phoenix to Wickenburg just for Anita’s Cocina. The food was worth the miles, and I happily supported them through menu changes and rising prices. But my last visit will be my last. The first thing I was told? Chips and salsa are no longer free. Now it’s $10 for the same small bowl they used to serve for free — with just one refill. That’s not hospitality, that’s a cover charge in disguise. There’s maybe $2 worth of chips and salsa in that bowl. The only real difference now is the extra $8 on the bill and the bad taste it leaves — and I’m not talking about the food. It’s clear they won’t go back to free chips. Why would they? They’re the only Mexican restaurant in Wickenburg. But just because customers have few options doesn’t mean they should feel taken for granted. Anita’s, you’ve gone from being a must-visit to a “never again.” I’ll take my appetite — and my $10 — back to Phoenix, where the chips are still free and the loyalty goes both ways. Charging $10 for chips and salsa is like charging for the fork — yes, I could pay it, but why would I?

Is the restaurant under new ownership or management? If so, they don't have any knowledge about running a successful restaurant, especially in a small, close-knit town. The food preparation has definitely gone downhill. We have eaten here several times before. Even though this visit was a late Wednesday afternoon, the restaurant was not busy at all. Any time we had gone there in the past, they were always busy. If this trend doesn't improve, unfortunately, after a long history in Wickenburg, they may close. Small towns are very loyal to welcoming, friendly businesses. Anita's Cocina is heading in the wrong direction. Hopefully, management sees this comment and changes course.

Staff was pretty friendly. I was waiting for my wife and daughter to get back from the bathroom to order. I ordered guacamole dip and bean dip that she forgot to put in. Got there at 1:00 but didn't get food till 1:45. Wasn't very good. My 10 year old and 13 year old didn't each much so we went to McDonald's afterwards. I was leaving and the waitress jokingly asked if I was skipping the bill. I replied no my wife is paying then went to McDonald's. I would avoid it.

On our way to Vegas, we stopped to eat at this restaurant. I ordered an enchilada with a taco, rice, and beans. I was not a fan of the taco it was a bit soggy, and the rice was a little crunchy. It did have a good flavor. I really don't care for restraunt beans, and these were pretty good, honestly. We also ordered a chile Verde chimichanga, and it was more like a burrito, and the green chile is different. The flavor is good, though. The salsas and chips were good 👍 price matches the portions.

I came here with my family to have a nice lunch. We got seated and honestly the server was nice. We looked at the menu and realized when we looked at the appetizer section that chips and salsa were $10. This was obviously dissapointing but it didn’t completely ruin it. We excitedly ordered our food when our server came to check on us but once we received it. It was flavorless. It didn’t have any seasoning. The food was practically flavorless and I really didn’t enjoy it. These guys used to be good but today it just wasn’t great. I’m not trying to be rude but just please find your issues and fix them. 👎

Google
Good atmosphere and staff was really nice but the signs on the way up said best Mexican food in town. It was average but not good enough to make a trip over. I’ve read a lot of the reviews here saying how great the food was so I was surprised how average it was. Not great and not bad. Staff nice but never refilled a coke and never refilled our chips. I had the maxed quesadilla and wife had a combo two taco plate. It comes with Mexican rice and beans but I would not eat the rice if I don’t love the taste. Beans were just ok.

Google
Would stop here all the time. Their margaritas are good. We stopped in today and were informed we wouldn't get chips and salsa unless we paid $10. What?? Who does that? I was so upset, got an ala carte item instead of a full meal as their prices went up too. I guess the owner's losing money at the track or something. Needless to say, we won't be back ever.

Yelp
Always amazing service, everyone is friendly and attentive, the drinks from the bar come fast and the food comes soon after hot from the kitchen. The food was full of flavor and good serving size. As soon as the plat was empty and set aside someone came to offer to clear it from the table. The atmosphere is relaxed and reminds me of how things were growing up in Arizona through the 80s and 90s. I recommend the red chillies Chimichanga for a meal with a little south of the border bite to it!

Yelp
Used the Yelp app to help me find lunch and I was not disappointed! Anita's has been around for 30 years I was told that it's the oldest Mexican restaurant in Wickenburg.I came with the whole family there were eight of us. The portions were huge and the food was amazing ! We would definitely return.

Yelp
Anita's is our go to when in Wickenburg. Service is always great, restaurant is clean, comfortable and family friendly, food is great and reasonably priced. It is consistently the best Mexican food in Wickenburg

John R.

Yelp
One of the worst meals we've ever eaten. No flavor or spice. Service was terrible as well. Used to be a decent place but no more. You're better off at Taco Bell.

Scott S.

Yelp
I'm so disappointed rite now, this was the go to place in Wickenburg but the last 3 times I ordered the nanas breakfast the green chile was AWFUL. You can't fry up a couple chunks ot pork then throw a can of green enchilada sauce on it and call it green chile.i was ordering this same meal in phx at Sylvia's or even a place at 19th and deer valley with Lidea and both her sisters are cooking up a storm while this place is falling down hill.Anita would rather cook chicken noodles than green chile

Yelp
Service was great, however the food was not. Not even the coffee was good. Suger packets were hard...

Joe F.

Yelp
The chicken tacos are very good as is the salsa. If you are a Trumper, you will really love this place.

Dale Y.

Yelp
Poor service, food just ok. Order was incorrect and slow to arrive. Won't go back and certainly can't recommend.

Mac T.

Yelp
Good service. Terrible food. I stopped for lunch today, and ordered the simplest of meals, chicken, enchiladas, rice, and beans. The chicken was bland and stringy, the beans were watery, and the rice tasted like it had a gallon of vinegar poured on top of it along with some unknown spices. I told the server that the taste seemed off, and she didn't quite know what to say. Couple that with the political propaganda all over the place, and I'm never going back.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this placed today as I have been wanting to try it for a couple of years when going to Wickenburg. Okay as most of you know who follow me here - I am a HUGE lover of Mexican food. The service was really good and fast when we got there. Iced Tea took a while but I did get it without having to ask for it. I ordered the Quesadilla with the works - basically they add enchilada sauce otherwise, it comes with the normal fixings. First it came out with beef or pork ( I couldn't tell)- I asked for chicken. Ok, just a little mistake - except for the fact I hate both of those items. She handled it quickly but now it came with guac - didn't the first time (should of) and it comes as a burrito so do not think you got someone else's dish. I didn't care for that. If I wanted a chicken burrito - that is what I would have ordered. It wasn't great overall. Cheese on top wasnt melted and that bugged me too. Flavor was weak Hubby ordered some chicken burrito and all of the things like - lettuce, cheese beans were under the burrito not in it - We basically had the same thing but ordered two totally different menu items. He too said "not the best" Salsa was good - chips were not refilled, drinks were not refilled, we were never checked on but again, I liked the people who work there. They are very aligned with my belief system so that also excited me. Always love supporting one of our own but we will not be returning. There are better places for sure

Yelp
I ordered a taco salad. My husband ordered chili relano. A cowboy recommended this place. I can see how a cowboy would like the art, the relaxed, homey decorations. I would not return.
google avatar

Leigh F.

Yelp
Standard menu, service is ok, unfortunately the food is bland, unlimited chips and salsa which is nice.
google avatar

Megane E.

Yelp
Staff was friendly, but there is a lot of political posters, stickers, and signs. I'm going to eat not to a politicians headquarters. The food is a gringos take on Mexican food, no real spice and not authentic in any way. Would not recommend to friends or family passing through.

Yelp
After reading all of the reviews we were hesitant to stop for a late lunch but we were hungry and walking by. I think the 1 star reviews are way too harsh. Notice most of them are from people who only have a few postings. Many also noted the conservative political signage so they were already biased. "Trump, Lake" etc. That didn't both us at all....staying neutral here. Food was good, not great. Taco (shredded beef) was actually very good with a good portion of meat and cheese. Cheese enchilada was ok but again full of cheese which is good. Machaca was good, needed more juice but again a lot of meat on the plate. The beans were just ok but we liked the rice. Service was also good. Two negatives - The chairs are old and filthy dirty. And I would say they need some background music because the place is eerily quiet, except for the conversations they you can hear.

Eric S.

Yelp
Place is horrible. Food is disgusting. Salsa is not even good. My family of four all ordered something different and not one of us enjoyed it. Stay away!

Yelp
I paid $12+tax for this tostada. It was very good. I never had a tostada with a fried flower tortilla and olives in it, but it was great! Some sour cream would be nice with those flavors. Service was amazing and the ambience was good. Overall, this restaurant saved me from hunger when almost everything was closed in this town. I wish I could've had more tip to leave but I had exactly $15

d v.

Yelp
I have visited a few times and found the food very fair and the ambiance worth a visit. Recently I ordered the quesadilla from the specialty side and it was the most awful dish I have ever had. Who messes up a quesadilla? It was like a burrito rolled in sauce. Stick with Tacos at this place

Juan L.

Yelp
Service was good. But unfortunately the food not so much. We were looking for a good Mexican breakfast and they didn't have any traditional dishes.

Vicki R.

Yelp
First time here. I can't wait to return to have another chili rellano. Great service and food.

John G.

Yelp
Oh my God this was so wonderful from the strawberry margaritas to the salsa to the entrées. Both my wife and I were thoroughly enjoyed dinner. I would recommend this place.

Marcia P.

Yelp
We had business in Wickenburg and stopped in for lunch with/5 people. Sadly, it was an explosion of all things 'Trump'.. over the top and uncomfortable.
google avatar

Trina G.

Yelp
We had heard of this place on the radio and finally had a chance to try it. It was a nice atmosphere. We decided on some bean dip as an appetizer. It came out very quickly but it was barely warm. Not sure this was how they made it, but it tasted good, so we decided to take it to go and reheat later. We then ordered the carne asada burrito and the loaded quesadillas. The carne seemed more like ground not chunk and the food was not hot at all... service seemed alright, like you would expect in the fast food industry although this is a sit down restaurant. The food tasted good but definitely not up to my standards. Almost seemed like a turn and burn kind of place, not a sit and enjoy your meal place...

Yelp
Anita's has decent Mexican food. I ordered tamale plate and it was delicious. There were ton of meat inside the tamale and the sauce was really good. Very moist and flavorful without being salty. The taco also had lot of meat. Rice and beans were good and served hot just the way I like it. Service was excellent and location was great with lots of shopping nearby. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Lona S.

Yelp
Salsa was amazing. We thought foe sure the food would prove to be authentic, sadly not. Had to ask for tobacco just to add some much needed flavor/ spice to my carne asada burrito; the meat tasted like it was stewed. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Great family owned restaurant, the food was great, prices were reasonable. The customer service was amazing. Our server Jesse was so sweet and had great knowledge of the menu, very friendly.

Burl M.

Yelp
We stopped by for our Mexican food fix, we passed on anything to drink besides water, the standard chips and salsa were very fresh, but their version of hot salsa was more medium than hot. Our server took our order and that was the last we saw of her until it was time for the check, she never stopped to ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Our food was delivered faster than I would have ever expected but we were grateful as it had been awhile since breakfast. The wife had the cheese enchiladas plate and I choose the taco with shredded beef and chili relleno, The taco was excellent and the meat was moist and tender. Their idea of a chili relleno was more of a omelette with pieces of chili with cheese. The sauce was delicious and just the right amount of spice. Would we go back if in the area? Absolutely! But I'll pass on the relleno ;)
google avatar

Leah N.

Yelp
Very white washed Mexican food. A lot of it tasted bland. The enchilada sauce was very tasty and with the chips and salsa you are given "mild salsa" and "hot salsa" - the hot salsa had a very good flavor. Other than that, nothing to write home about. Service was good and decor was cute.

Brad V.

Yelp
Wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was good. Not great, but good. When the bill came, we noticed that it didn't total the same as we ordered. When I went to pay, I was informed someone hadn't put that the difference was simply the State Tax. Ok, so I paid the bill and when I was signing the slip I noted a Surcharge of $1.19 was added to it. I was so pissed I never ask about it, but turned and left. I can't say for sure, but I would bet if I hadn't ask about our bill and simply paid it, that I would have paid additional tax on the overage. And then the Surcharge, what the hell was that for? Anyway, we won't be back.

Yelp
Carne Asada tasted like ground beef. Not impressed. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Love this place! Food is Good and customer service is Great! Chips and salsa are perfect with thin chips and homemade fantastic salsa.

Yelp
We really would have given it a 3 1/2 if we could. We have or been to this restaurant in years. It's a long drive from Gold Canyon, AZ, 2 hours on a good day.I was excited about going today but overall was disappointed. First, the service was excellent, our server was polite and very accommodating. But I was very disappointed with my food . The quality of the ingredients was excellent it was just the way it was put together. I had Chile Relleno and a chicken taco, #11. I have had many Chile rellenos in many Mexican restaurants across the country and have never seen one prepared like this. It was a basically two egg Pattie's with I small chili in the middle??? The taste was ok but it wasn't a chili stuffed with cheese dipped in egg and fried! The ranch beans that I had been looking forward to were covered in cheese and dry. My husband was happy with his Chimi and I thought the Margarita was pretty good. I hesitate to mention all their election posters, but I have to say we have decided that to find peace and harmony in this world we keep politics and religion for private conversations to ouBut this in no way reflects our rating! This a family owned place and they have every right to express themselves in their business, as I have the right not to stop in. I almost forgot the salsa is still my favorite!

Angelin D.

Yelp
The burrito was unexpectedly watery, almost as if it was steamed, which was quite off-putting. Additionally, the beef in the fajita was overcooked to the point of being hard to chew.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
We are repeat customers at Anita's - they have the best chili rellenos I've ever had! Service is good and fast, even when the place is full. One young man, Aaron, stood out for his helpfulness and attentiveness - well done. I have to say the new chairs in the north dining room. They are both surprisingly hard and low to the ground; I felt like a kid sitting at the grownups' table. We'll gladly be back!

Yelp
Definitely our favorite place to eat. Great people and food! We live over an hour away and eat there every chance we get.

Yelp
I've been looking for a Mexican restaurant to go to since moving to the Wickenburg area, and many people suggested Anita's Anita's Mexican restaurant. So I went and didn't have to wait in line even though the place was busy, and the service was great no complaints, plus they have daily specials if you ask sometimes they are not written on the chalk board I found out. The array of maxi beers is very unique I hadn't seen in other Mexican restaurants they offer Victoria, Estrella, montejo, and others. The food was good, but the portions were small, but you have to look over the menu really good take your time combing through it so you get the best bang for your buck, my friend got the lunch special came with rice and beans, I got the chimichanga came with nothing except a small to mid size chimichanga with a dab of sour cream and a dab of guacamole, but I should have gotten the 6 rolled taquitos for the same price, but the shredded beef was good it wasn't dry. I tasted the rice which is part of my regimen to judge the restaurant quality of food and it failed my test lack of flavor, color & salt omg no salt whatsoever so I'm glad my overpriced chimichangas didn't come with the bland rice a blessing in disguise. Lol I gave this restaurant 4 stars for the great service, selection of beers, and selection of food which one can get in a combo or a la carte plus plenty of parking on the street or in the adjacent parking lot. I will be back, but I'll be more selective with my food choices starting with "what is your daily specials" Last tip sodas are $3.00, and the chips & salsas are free, but after the 2nd round of chips they will charge you if you order more than two rounds of chips.

Yelp
Great Mexican food. Great service and very good margaritas! Definitely worth your time.
google avatar

Dara S.

Yelp
Food was average at best. (Not authentic)Democrats please spend your money somewhere else. You can believe the lies of your cult all you want, but I don't need to have it in my face the minute I walk in the door. The owners are going to be sad(once again) when Trump loses again.

Lori J.

Yelp
Great place to eat. The owners Sheri and Tom are wonderful. Good food and great atmosphere. We love it.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
We stopped by on the way through Wickenberg. The food was terrible. The rice and beans were both poorly made or possibly out of a premade packet. The shredded beef tacos had no seasoning and tasted only like grease.
google avatar

Margie W.

Yelp
I have read numerous bad reviews of Anita's. My husband and I have been going there since 2018. Today, we went to see for ourselves if the reviews were true. They were not even close to being true. Anita's has had the same owners 40 years. It does not have new owners. Our waitress was Diane. She has waited on us in the past. Diane has worked for Anita's for 10 years. It was also said the furniture was old and dirty. The silverware had dried food on it. None of this is true. Some people stated the service is bad, drinks were not refilled and orders were wrong and cold. I am giving 5 stars. The restaurant was clean. We were waited on as soon as we walked in. They checked on us frequently. Our orders were correct. We did not have to wait for our food. They asked if we needed any refills. The glasses of iced tea are huge, so refills were not necessary for us. Our food was excellent, just as it has always been. We will definitely be back. Please don't listen to the negative reviews. Go see for yourself. Keep up the good work Anita's!!

Michael M.

Yelp
The food and service has always been top notch at Anita's. I always enjoy supporting this restaurant. During the Scamdemic, they remained open and allowed customers to get takeout or dine on the front patio (this was one of many places in Wickenburg that showed they had a pair). If you don't like supporting a conservative American restaurant, go to Filiberto's or one of those types of establishments, where the cook is more than likely an illegal without a food handler's card.
google avatar

Keith T.

Yelp
An A-Ok Three Star joint that my friend likes to eat at in Wickenburg, AZ. A word of caution, it's a cash only business. No credit cards are accepted. Shredded Beef tacos, with rice and beans were tasty. My friend liked her Taco Salad. The restaurant is about a half block off of the main road through town, so you need Yelp to help you find it. The service is fast and the servers are really pleasant.

Joe S.

Yelp
Food is good, but oh, boy, all the MAGA posters and stickers plastered all over the front window, the counter inside the door, etc. In fact you are face to face with huge Trump and Kari Lake signs as soon as you enter. If you want authentic Mexican food without all of the right-wing propaganda, try El Ranchero just about a mile west on U.S. 60.

Bob B.

Yelp
Service was great, very friendly. Food was average. The margaritas were way too sweet. Probably #2 in town.

Teresa M.

Yelp
Food is mediocre, not authentic Mexican. Service was good a lot of young people working very hard. Lots of political signs and stickers which were strange in a restaurant and there was no doubt as to what their political views are.

Kristin H.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place tonight! Best Mexican food in Wickenburg I've had...and I've been to them all!
google avatar

Donella M.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! This Mexican restaurant has the best cod fish fry ever!!! Hubby and I decided to pop in after a busy morning and afternoon. Just had a taste for Friday Fish Fry and there was zero disappointment here. We have eaten here before and enjoyed it but this time I had my fingers ready for photo and review. The fries came out hot and fresh and so did the fish. Crispy, light, delicious comes to mind. Cole slaw is great. Not sweet! Homemade tartar to die for! Guess who is going to be returning soon?
google avatar

Jodi B.

Yelp
The service in the beginning was not great! We weren't even acknowledged while we were waiting until Sandra came by. She told us she would be back. She was a waitress from the other side of the restaurant. Sandra returned to us pretty quickly. She apologized for the wait and took our order. Things went uphill from there in our service and that was all due to Sandra!!! The food is delicious and Sandra was amazing! We'll back!!!

William F.

Yelp
We had heard good things about Anita's, unfortunately our experience did not live up to our expectations. The service was fine, the young person assisting the waitress was very helpful. The food was uniformly bland, not bad, just not a lot of flavor. We were equally disappointed with the Machaca Plate and the Super Duper Tostada. We were amused by the entry decorations, we wondered why you would celebrate backing a bunch of losing politicians. To each their own. We would return had the food been worthwhile, but it is not a good value for the price.
