Annasäule, or St. Anne’s Column, stands proudly in the middle of Maria-Theresien-Straße, one of Innsbruck’s main boulevards. Erected in 1706, it commemorates the liberation of Tyrol from Bavarian troops on St. Anne’s Day in 1703. The column is made of local red marble, topped with a statue of the Virgin Mary, and surrounded at its base by saints watching over the city. Today, it’s both a historical monument and a central meeting point amid shops, cafés, and the bustle of daily life in Innsbruck.
