We had a great time here. Staff is friendly and welcoming, rooms are reasonably large and clean. The Japanese ryokan style adds to the charm. What I liked most though it's the location. A truly local experience away from tourist crowds, with plenty of local food/drink options around. It is still well connected to the other main neighborhoods in Tokyo.

Been going here since early 2000, Arakawa-san and his wife have been great hosts. Fair price, old style basic ryokan. Old school, and it’s as expected from the neighbourhood. So expect tatami mats, low tables, small wet bathrooms. Has washing machines up front. Amazing location.

I had another wonderful and comfortable stay at Annex Katsutaro Ryokan. One of the best parts is the location. The ryokan is located near both the JR Yamanote line (Nippori Station) and the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda line (Sendagi Station), which offers convenient access to various parts of Tokyo and beyond. Also, Yanaka is a very charming neighborhood, and I enjoyed my morning walks very much. I look forward to visiting again!

The stay itself is good; the room is small but not tiny, there is a table, desk/shelf area, and necessary amenities. Staff is friendly and clear in language, though not fluent in English. The parts that are lacking in this stay are the following; Internet speed is slow, I personally see a requirement to have WiFi speeds to at least be able to view 2x 1080p video (which is about 16 Mb or 2 MB). Think of the use case to call family/friends with video cam. The speed is barely able to view 1080p30 and 720p60. Even attempting the Ethernet port had no change. The shampoo was not sufficient. Granted, my hair is somewhat thick compared to the average Japanese citizen. Though I think this is still an issue which required me to get shampoo from a store. The same goes for the hairdryer, it is too weak. For the price, I expected these two gripes to be okay, but sadly it is not.

It is no Japanese Ryokan… but a shop establishment with a few rooms on higher floor in a by lane. You get to sleep on top of two thin mattresses laid on top of one another. No daily cleaning, we stayed for four, despite requests room not cleaned. ||||There are much better and professional options nearby…

It was just perfect for us. Easy commute from NARITA , Nippori station and Sendagi within walking distance ( about 7-10 min) |Everything you need is close by (7/11, ATM, food..) Friendly, quiet neighbourhood, local stores, little traffic. Our room was big and well designed. AC and fridge working well. Washing machine downstairs. Friendly and helpful owner. We loved it.

I had a wonderful week long stay at Katsutaro Ryokan. As a solo female tourist (who doesn’t speak Japanese) I felt utterly comfortable, it was the perfect base for daily adventures. The room was perfect, the staff were kind and helpful, and the location was great. Not far from train station and lovely local area. Highly recommend!!!!

Our family stayed at this hotel five years ago and we enjoyed it so well that we booked it again five years later. The same friendly/nice elderly couple (I'm assuming) working there as last time. The same nice traditional style Japanese rooms that we enjoyed. The surrounding neighborhood is a great place to explore on foot. 7/11 and Lawsons less than 1 minute walk away for any of your convenience store and snack needs. Home cooked breakfast available. It really is a great lodging place to kick off vacation and exploration of Tokyo.

Yelp
This isn't really a traditional Japanese inn. It's a small, family-run hotel with tatami mat rooms and futons. The rooms all have modern private baths, and there is daily housekeeping and fresh linen as with most hotels. The room was very clean; the fittings were a little bit worn; the A/C was strong. The place seems to cater mostly to Westerners. The front desk people speak reasonable English. The hotel will provide breakfast (continental or full Western; the latter cost Y780). The hotel is convenient for transportation to Narita: an express train runs to Nippori station, which is about a 10 minute walk. Sendagi is the closest subway station. There is also a stop for a "loop bus" route right outside the front door. This can be pretty handy, and it does *not* show up on google maps's public transportation routings, so check the map at the front desk. We'd certainly recommend it for visitors who want something moderately priced and with a bit more character than a big chain hotel.
