Edit review to 1 star for them jumping ship and not informing staff. Annie's Burger shack has been a place I've visited only a handful of times and the experience always seems to differ between good and... Meh. On the day we visited, we were quickly seated and our order for drinks was taken. My partner had ordered a milkshake as she was intrigued by their Reese's one with getting myself a root beer. Once the order for the milkshake was taken, the server approached the kitchen window which was right behind us and asked them if they could make the milkshake for her which received the response of them stating 'they couldn't be bothered' but they'd do it for her. My root beer came promptly and the milkshake took some time to arrive, probably 10 minutes before the food itself and for £10 was underwhelming. The Reese's peanut butter taste was barely present and it merely came across as a glorified vanilla milkshake. When ordering our food, the server asked me which type of fries I'd like and whilst attempting to locate them on the menu, I asked her 'what are the options?', rather than tell them to me, she moved the menu to the appropriate page and pointed to them, declaring that 'they are listed here' in a snappy tone. Once our food arrived the fries were hot and crispy and the burgers stacked high. The burgers during this visit felt a little overcooked compared to previous visits and a little dry unfortunately. I added a side of Frank's and beans which has decreased In quality since the last time I had them, with a few pieces of sausage and clearly microwaved beans. It's unfortunate this visit was not as good in comparison to previous visits. I would recommend Annie's Burger Shack for their variety, atmosphere and selection... Visiting results may vary.

Been visiting Annie’s for years pre lockdown. Decided to come back as we missed the good old breakfast but menu has changed drastically. Some same items but meal is drastically smaller portions but more expensive. In this economy thats not an issue with inflation but my god the food was terrible. Our pancakes were so hard and burnt. Nobody bothered to ask how our food was so we couldn’t complain as there wasn’t anyone really around. The waitresses seemed really lovely when taking our order though and the music was really good. The food was cold and burnt, so disappointing from Annie’s as it was never like this in the previous years. Will not be returning, there are better burgers and breakfast places in Nottingham! Very disappointing!

Google
Annie's was a very nice experience, the food was outstanding I thought and they had a fantastic selection of beers available. The menu was well laid out but could get a little confusing with probably a few too many items, if they were to cut this down a few I think it would be beneficial. The restaurant is hard to find, but I think that adds to the experience.

Google
What a great place to drop in to after a hard day shopping in Notts. The food was lovely, fresh, and tasty. One little thing, my burger could have been a little hotter and melted the cheese as it felt a little cold. But overall chips and onion rings spot on, and the other meals were perfect. The drinks were spot on homemade lemonade, and will return soon.

Google
A great place for burgers. There's 30+ different burger options, plus a couple of different hotdogs to choose from, so you'll probably find something you haven't tried before. We've had both beef and chicken burgers from here before, and they've been delicious. They had a good range of beers as well, with craft beers from Brixton, Camden and Goose Island, plus several lager options. The milkshakes are also quite special, with the option to add alcohol to it to add another flavour (we tried the Nutella chocolate milkshake which Cointreau is added to).

Google
Absolutely LOVEEEE this place and the new menu is banging!! You can go vegan, veggie or meaty on any of their burger choices. Although making that choice isn’t easy, they all sound unreal. I’ve been a fan of Annie’s for years and getting to meet her properly last night was so much fun, she’s so lovely. I’ve never ever been disappointed when visiting here, and the new burgers are sooooooooo bloody good . Highly recommend getting the Texas bbq rib and the poutine fries!!

Google
Came here for food when we visited the Justice Museum as it's a short walk around the corner and looked decent from reviews. Were seated quickly and told there might be some slowness as a few larger tables had just arrived, ordered within 5-10 minutes and food arrived very quickly, fresh and hot. Great tasting burger, can't fault it at all to be honest, if we're back in Nottingham any time we'd definitely go again.

Google
This place was a great find, the food was great, plenty of choice with both food and drinks. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Reasonably priced too. Would recommend you try the Frickles, not for everyone but we loved them Will definitely be visiting when we are next in Nottingham

Yelp
Annie's used to be fantastic, but unfortunately it has not only gone downhill, but is practically inedible. I gather that Annie sold out a while ago, and undoubtedly everything that made it special is long gone. Do yourself a huge favor if you want a great burger, head up the road to Bohn's!

Yelp
The staff was friendly and welcoming enough. However, if it's true that it's a UK law that hamburgers are required to be prepared well done, I won't be eating them here or anywhere else while visiting! The Bacon and Cheese burger was over done and too firm to my liking. The included skinny fries option was tasty good. These ketchup packets are a challenge in itself to open with your greasy little paws after handling the burger. Eh... I'd come back for a brewsky or cocktail ONLY. Sorry, I'm not paying that for this kind of a burger!

Yelp
I loved this place. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, good music and nice theming without it being over the top. The menu is brilliant with loads of unusual burger combinations. I was tempted to go for something weird but stayed semi-safe with The Boston Nibbler. Beef patty, two types of cheese, onion rings, grilled pineapple and burger sauce. I had this with Cajun wedges. I was really impressed by the burger, a nice patty, good bun that didn't fall apart despite all the fillings (hate it when a burger bun falls apart halfway through). The wedges were good as well. When I'm next in Nottingham I'll definitely return.

Yelp
We visited Annie's today for burgers and beer and we weren't disappointed. Well, we mostly weren't disappointed. Lunchtime at Annie's is very *very* busy and loud, so if that's not your thing, you may want to visit slightly later in the afternoon. If you do, turn up early and wait for opening time / reserve a table just in case. As for the rest: The Good: The burgers were great - we weren't asked how we wanted them cooked, they were just sent out just-so. I wasn't sure whether I'd like this, but I did. The beer was good too, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The place was very clean, service was fast and they had decent Guinness on tap. The Bad: The plates could have been bigger - if you're eating a burger that you have to deconstruct in order to consume, you need a little room, and these plates didn't have that. The glasses were old and scuffed too, which wasn't a good look. The Ugly: We were told that we couldn't leave a tip with our card. It's 2019 and we couldn't leave a tip with a card. I left all the cash I had, which wasn't near what the staff deserved, and though the food was good, I still had a nasty taste in my mouth. Hopefully they'll change this policy and I can remove this paragraph and upgrade my review to the ***** that Annie's deserves.

Yelp
You'll want to make a reservation because it's always busy but seriously worth it! Service is always friendly and very quick, and the food is honest to god some of the best I've ever had. I'm vegan and my boyfriend is vegetarian and we've each tried quite a few different burgers and have absolutely loved them all. We always leave with the fullest bellies, and it's really not hard on the wallet. Overall an amazing experience every time we go!

Yelp
After our excellent experience at Spanky van Dykes a few weeks prior to this visit to Annie's, I was seriously doubting the food could stand up against the meal we had there. Turns out it can! Choosing Annie's as the 'final meal' before her wedding day, 5 of us went along with our friend to seriously indulge. The menu is massive so either look before you turn up or be sure to order your drinks very swiftly. We were seated quickly and I dove straight into the drinks - they've got plenty, including a large selection of real ales. I had a pint of the draft cider and then went about deciding on which burger...then which fries! After a while of perusing and discussion, I decided on the sloppy joe - a classic, but I couldn't resist. A great burger topped with chilli and two onion rings, though the latter were place on the burger prior to the chilli being smothered on top, so became very soggy. That was my only moan as everything else was excellent! I had to take a knife and fork to it, obviously, but that didn't impact enjoying my meal at all. The chilli was rich and meaty, with the option to make it hotter at ordering if you want. Not being able to resist the pull of curly fries, I opted for these above the others (wedges, standard skinny, and sweet potato) and they were ace, with a few crispy bits hidden underneath. Sauce is in packets on the table so we managed to get through a lot of ketchup! One amazing thing they do is offer everything as either vegetarian or vegan. Somehow. This was certainly a factor we couldn't quite get our heads around - vegetarian pulled pork? - but it's great to see somewhere trying to include everyone in the indulgent eating trend! Service was good throughout, if a bit unsure; our waiter often had to go and ask someone else for an answer when we had any queries. However, he did have a great attitude with us, especially when it took us a very long time to actually make an order! Nottingham is lucky to have Annie's and it's definitely on my list if I'm ever in town again.

Yelp
Now as a Mancunian I'm seeing/eating my fair share of burgers at the moment. So it's worth noting that I'm rating this so highly!! It's not a filthy role down your face style burger aka 'the brioche generation' but it is magnificent in other ways. 5 Reasons for 5 Stars. Firstly the burgers are juicy and well cooked. Secondly the consistency, the menu is huge but the quality doesn't drop. Thirdly the choice! Novelty burgers galore... Sunday Roast Burger.... That's all I'm saying. Fourthly, the decor isn't too pretentious, it's just a casual burger joint. Fifthly is the story, Annie has built this from the ground up...Going from a resident kitchen to a fully blown burger bonanza. It's a labour of love and it shows. This place is always full. So book ahead!

Yelp
Annies is situated in one of Nottinghams beautiful old and prestigious buildings. High ceilings and original features. It has a character of its own rather than the pack with a warehouse setting. Nottingham is my home town but i don't live there anymore, so although Annies has now been a round for a while this was my first visit. we had been warned booking was required, but they didnt have any reservations available so we needed to rely on getting one of their walk up tables. For this reason we decided to arrive around an hour before we actually wanted to eat. And we are glad we did. Although a Sunday evening Annies was packed! We were told it would be a 45 minute wait, but it was over an hour. Luckily, because of yelp reviews we were expecting this so it wasn't too bad really. So we had a drink at the bar and made sure we'd been through the menu ready to order as soon as seated. Turns out i probably needed that hour to decide what to have! the menu is extensive! Plenty of options from the standard, to the gourmet to the gimmick. (the sunday roast burger for example with potato, stuffing balls and other sunday dinner loveliness stacked high above the burger). The burger was delicious, the patty moist and cooked to perfection. The garnishing well chosen for each burger type and flavours chosen for each perfectly complimenting. I will be back.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. The burger is cooked perfectly. And the choices of burgers is just incredible. 25 to choose from. However it is very hard to get a table. Make sure you book. And the service is very slow. I waited a hour for my food. But trust me. It's worth the wait!!

Yelp
I've been here many many times before, with groups ranging from just two of us to 6 of us and so far, I've never had a bad burger or been disappointed. I'm always shocked and impressed by both how full the place is but also how well they serve and how quick it is (no matter how busy, they are prompt and helpful in their service). We've been that often my friend and I have a loyalty card (where you try all the burgers, and there are a lot, of different types of burgers) and each time the staff are happy to stamp whatever burger you've eaten to keep you up to date. The burgers themselves are amazing, they are always well cooked, very nicely presented and generally just great tasting, and a pleasure to eat. Would recommend it to anyone!

Yelp
Okay let me preface this by just saying I used to adore this place, I often got given vouchers for Christmas so me and my partner could go to it all the time - I used to dine here before football when it was at the Navigation and adored the idea of it getting too big for that place... The burgers were great, but now... ... Well I've been there three times within the past year and each time I had extremely delayed service, waiting for what must have been 45 minutes to an hour for the burger. The first trip I took my mother, her partner and my brothers whom had never been before and whereby we got our burgers they completely neglected my mums order and didn't even serve it to her - we had to ask again and then the waitresses looked at each other a bit confused and eventually gave her what she originally asked for. The second time was my birthday - this December and I decided to take seven people including myself - three of whom had never been! The wait wasn't hugely long because we enjoyed each others company however the burgers (Well the meat ones!) were way smaller than I'd come to expect from Annie's and I felt bad that my friends had paid so much for such a small burger compared to what I'd advertised to them before hand! And the last time (probably my last ever now!) was Valentines day, we pre-booked a seat and got there ten minutes early, got our order taken but the food was still extremely delayed, to the point where numerous people came in after us and then got served and eventually left before our food had even come! When you serve a table of four before our table of two, especially when they sat down after us something about the service is wrong! I'm not impressed and after these three visits Annie's has lost a hugely loyal customer.

Eleni B.

Yelp
The wait was VERY LONG but that was the least of our concerns. The main issue is that when we received after the hour long wait, we were shocked to find soft bones in the pulled pork and various hairs in the burger and fries. The only positive outcome of this restaurant was the waitress who was a lovely woman thank you Amber.

Alan B.

Yelp
Before I say anything about the food: one tip: BOOK AHEAD - this place gets busy. I've followed Annie from her early Old Angel days, through the Navigation to this point and her food is consistently amazing. Her menus are innovative, her portion sizes are on the generous side of just right and the food is consistently delicious. But what about the shack itself? Well, "shack" is a bit misleading. We're not talking garden shed here. It's a comfortable, fun place to eat with a vibe reflecting Annie's New England roots. The bar is well stocked with a revolving cast of real ales that always complements the food on display. I must have gone through most of the burgers on the menu. I dare you to try the Elvis Burger. I have: it's fantastic.

Chris F.

Yelp
Really wanted to have one of the burgers here because there is so much choice and they sound delicious, but it just didn't fit into our plans. I was able too to pop by for a drink fortunately. They have 10 real ales which is fantastic for somewhere that is primarily a burger joint. Although the place is primarily set up for eating you can just come for a drunk. Enjoyed a midday measure of Right Turn Clyde by Blue Monkey - my kind of golden beer!

Yelp
Annie's Burger Shack was just what the doctor ordered for this weary American traveler in search of a taste of America. The location was very easy to find and was decorated with nostalgic American memorabilia, so I felt right at home. The wait staff were polite and courteous, as well as easy on the eyes. Now to the mammoth burger. I ordered "The Reggie", which had a ton of bacon, cheese, and a lovely hash brown in the center. The bread was fresh and adequately contained the massive burger. I didn't have to wait more than 4 minutes for my order to come out, which concerned me. I had the sneaking suspicion that my patty was already pre cooked, as were my fries. The burger was not cold by no means, but definitely did not have the "right off the grill" temperature or taste that I would expect for an eleven pound burger. The fries also tasted a bit old. Despite that, the burger tasted very good and the fries were satisfactory. Perhaps this is my American taste speaking, but I typically prefer more seasoning than what I tasted on the fries and burger. Other than that, my burger experience there was splendid. I will definitely be returning to Annie's to taste another of their fabulous Burger creations.

Yelp
Upon stumbling across this place I really wanted to give it 5 stars. I'm a sucker for good beer and burgers, and this is the sort of place that I absolutely love. The beer selection was great, with Oakham Citra and Darkstar Hophead on cask, and an Adnams dry hopped lager on keg, and at £3.20 a pint, the pricing policy was spot on. The choice of burgers was absolutely phenomenal, with 30 different combinations and the option to build your own, plus the choice of fries, wedges, curly fries or sweet potato fries (my personal favourite). Unfortunately, the burgers didn't quite live up to expectations. It seems all the burgers come served on a standard seeded roll, and whilst this might be a good choice for some combinations, a bit of variety would have probably helped some of the burgers (brioche anyone?). Whilst my burger came pink in the middle and was pretty tasty, my fellow diner's burger was on the dry side and was pretty dense. After eating, it turns out they use a mixture of beef and pork mince for their patties, I'm personally not a fan of this, I like my burger to taste of beef. I didn't dislike Annie's, but I don't think their burgers are up to the standard of those I've eaten elsewhere. Saying that, with a few tweaks this place could be absolutely amazing, although based on how busy it was at 12:15 on a Monday, I don't think they will feel the need to change much any time soon. As a side note, the waiter was absolutely fantastic, attentive, friendly and helpful. We felt really looked after throughout the whole meal.

Yelp
Annie's a bloody marvellous! Seriously, SERIOUSLY good. We went for breakfast with some friends we were visiting and Annie's suited because they did a mean breakfast and they cater for all sorts of people, even vegans! They have American style breakfast food from various different regions of the US. You would need to visit every day for a few months to try everything! I don't remember what my friends ordered other than it included fake eggs and looks and smelled delicious. My wife had pancakes with banana and chocolate and these things were as big as her head! They came as a small stack which was 2 hub cap sized pancakes. Needless to say she didn't quite manage to finish them! If I remember correctly I had the Portland Grilled Ham and Eggs. Nice big thick piece of gammon, a couple of eggs and home fries on the side. Nom. Honestly. This is a great concept and amazing food. They even do bottomless coffee! I'm told the burgers are good too so next time we're in Nottingham we'll be trying those!!

Aimee A.

Yelp
First impressions of Annie's was - busy busy busy. It had a different feel to what I had expected - i anticipated a more indepdent feel but it felt quite like a large american chain. Despite this the decor was cute an kitsch and fun. The food came out pretty quickly, service was good although I was disappointed that they had run out of root beer. I had sweet potato fries which were really good (although you can't really go wrong with sweet potato fries anyway?) and a burger which was nice enough but not quite mindblowing. I can't seem to find a 5 star burger place outside of London!

Amy R.

Yelp
Really gorgeous burgers, heard it was busy so booked well in advance (a late one, around 9pm). Service was still prompt and burger choice was incredible! Slightly put out by loud music (think band practice) downstairs, but this was just a bad choice of evening. Lovely place, would visit again in an instant

C M.

Yelp
Although we had to wait nearly an hour for a table, we'd heard it was worth it. They asked us to go to the bar downstairs in the meantime, and myself and some friends played table football to pass the time. Finally we were given the go ahead. I ordered a north Carolina, which was pulled pork and caramalised onions on top of a beef/chicken burger. I went with beef. The meat was really tender and the pork was bursting with flavour. I got sweet potato fries on the side which were nice if not amazing. The only thing keeping me from giving this place five stars was the service which was very slow. If you're not in a rush this is one of the best Burgers I've ever eaten.

Lindsey K.

Yelp
Probably the BEST burger I have ever eaten in my life time! Wonderful atmosphere and attentive staff - although it was super busy the waiters and bar staff were very cheery and friendly. I decided to try the satay sauce burger but was spoilt for choice - they certainly have some unusual combos - my friend opted for the Sunday roast burger that came with a Yorkshire pudding attached - if heaven made burgers, this place is it!

Dean O.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times and whilst the burgers are okay and nice I've had much better for a lot less, won't be back in a hurry.

Natalie H.

Yelp
Delicious burgers and fries with a huge selection to choose from - literally dozens of different flavour burgers! Yummy!

Lois Z.

Yelp
The burgers were very good, not great; but everything else was a disaster. The waitstaff appeared far too busy and important to deal with us. They posted a 30 minute "cook time" so we weren't inclined to wait long to place our order. We practically had to trip someone after about 20 minutes to get them to take our order. We ordered wine, but it was undrinkable; it had mostly turned to vinegar. No one ever questioned the completely full glass as they cleared the dishes. We didn't send it back, as we didn't wish to be "ugly Americans", but we did decide to ding 'em in Yelp! Bottom line: not worth the trouble.

Chris C.

Yelp
The burgers and accompaniments are great as is the beer. Service however is not so good. When you are there it takes a while to get served. There seems to be a staff shortage for the number of tables. The worst thing though is trying to book. Response to emails is appallingly slow (we are talking days not hours) and trying to get through on the phone takes many tries. It is a real shame that this takes away from what is otherwise and enjoyable visit.
