There’s a gem in the Borscht Belt rough called Annie’s Ruff Cut. The locals have known about it for decades and go for the quality and value. Whether it’s the vibe of great food, it’s a carnivore’s must-stop if you’re visiting. The roast beef is served perfectly, sliced so super thin, with that full-flavor juicy reduction for dipping. Order the beef cold, and it’ll be the rare. Or, order it warm, and it’ll be dipped in, just to cook it enough, Also a fan of the chicken wings, but get them when it’s not busy or early on wings night. Bourbon is my favorite. The burger is generously sized and does the trick—it’s delicious l. The Mac and Cheese isn’t worth it unless your kids ask for it.

The food is sooo good! We usually go in when they have a special on the menu bc it never disappoints.

Annie's Ruff Cut was a tasty delight. Our whole table ordered their mouth watering roast beef sandwiches and left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Great place!

Unique little eatery with amazing food. I tried the patty melt and it was the best patty melt I've ever had. Kind of bar atmosphere, but mixed with fast casual. Server was kind. Usually dead around early afternoon before lunchtime.

Arrived on a Thursday evening to find the place moderately busy. Was told to sit anywhere. After having time to thoroughly review the menu, was told we couldn’t sit where we were. We were moved to another table with no offer to take our order. Eventually, a drink order was taken and we were told someone else would take our food order. Drinks then arrived timely. Halfway through our drinks, someone finally asked if we were ready to order. We were then told the kitchen was “backed up” and that food would take 30 - 45 minutes. We paid for our drinks and went elsewhere. Hate to have to leave a 1 star review, but going to a restaurant and then not eating is pretty much the definition of a 1 star experience.

Would have been 5 stars all around- but took 1 hr 10 mins to get our order. 4 tables came in after us. Nd were served before us. Last served last to heave. To be fair they looked short staffed and it was before a concert - but our waitress barely acknowledged us or told us our food was delayed.

Google
Great food and friendly staff. Th Ruff Cut Roast Beef and Pretzel Fries were outstanding. Nice selection of drinks. The place was very clean and has a nice deck to sit on, have a drink and enjoy a meal. Highly recommend this place. Will definitely be back!

Google
Hello! I came here thinking this was an amazing choice for me and my family. But I was sadly dissapointed. After ordering the salad, I was expecting a good size portion. After waiting for what felt like hours, it finally arrived. After all this time, I just wanted a quality salad to fill me up. However, this salad was one of the worst thing I have ever had. Every order came out separately, and mine came out last! I am very dissapointed because I was hoping for a good meal. I attached the photo of the purely disgusting salad which was supposed to have bacon in it but didn't! Not my favorite place in the area

Yelp
Visited the area for my Bday weekend! Had lunch on a Saturday. Annie, bartending herself, very friendly and the food (Wings and Burger) was good. I loved that we told Annie we were sharing the burger and it was served split already! Will come again when I'm in the area!!!

Yelp
Love this place! Their roast beef sandwiches are the best. We always make time for Annie's before any concert at Bethel!

Yelp
Definitely a small town restaurant in a small down. Staff was very friendly and informative. Came with a group of 4, no one left hungry. If you're driving through, check out the chandelier.

Mary D.

Yelp
Everything we get there is always delicious!!! BUT waiting over 1 hour for food is ridiculous! The locals apparently know there is a wait but people who don't know should have been told by the staff.

Yelp
This roast beef sandwich was fabulous! We needed a snack . My cousin who lives in the Catskills told us about this sandwich. I had not idea a place in the middle of the forest would be so good . The meat was tender and slices so fine . The service was good . The ambiance was rustic as it should be .

Yelp
Great service and always excellent food from the pastrami sandwiches to the delicious onion rings. Also great burgers, special drinks and apps. One of our go to places.

Yelp
The first time I had to not tip because the service was bad We get at the place at 5:17 and get in no one greets us (it was fairly busy so I'm gonna let that go) I ask to sit at the bar so the bartender can be close by Even then the bartender was barely talkative to us Got our menus and I can't remember if she asked us what we wanted to drink so I asked for water Took a bit to get the water so by the time someone brought it I wanted to quickly put the order in I ordered the kids cheeseburger and my girlfriend orders the cheese quesadilla with chicken Remember the time I mentioned to begin with? 5:17 ? Maybe got my order in at 5:30 ish and didn't they our food til 6:07 we were sitting there to close to an hour and had to wait over 30 minutes for our food which took about 10 or so minutes to eat fully Food wasn't bad just the service that really killed our mood Even while we were waiting waitress barely came up to us until she gave us ketchup The place was basically empty at one point and the people who came in after us got their appetizers before we got our meal (I mean i don't know how cheese fries and what not is easier to cook than a kids burger and quesadilla but whatever) I told my girlfriend we're not going to tip them due to lack of service so she gets up to leave and I stay to give the money Server asked if I wanted change and I said yes and I'm pretty sure she knew she wasn't getting a tip so when she turned around to give them money I put my hand out for the change she put it on the table and I said have a good day and she didn't say nothing back to me lol Would give it 0 star but they had a jets sign so they can take the 1 star EDIT: Seeing that the owner responded to a positive review that was posted two days after mine mostly bc yelp chose a funny name for me showed she read and didn't care to reach out How Sad lol

Yelp
My first time at the place was this evening. Took 1:10min to get our order, people that came in after my wife and I were served before us. The waitress swore up and down that the meal was coming, in just 5 minutes for 30 min. She deliberately withheld our check when we asked so we could just leave. We barely saw her though, I had to get up multiple times to ask where my food was...just 5 min....swear just 5 min. I asked to speak with the manager, refused by the waitress that i had to hunt down.... finally got the food, it was good. However the waitress took my food before I was finished eating...just picked it up and walked off. The drinks were watered down and weak. Will not be back, Hire people.

Yelp
We also own a restaurant in the area and have been wanting to come here for a long time! Finally made it down last week. They were absolutely packed on a Wednesday, and even though we'd made a reservation I felt bad that we were a party of 10 (side note: if you're a party of 10, always call ahead!), but the server was great. She was friendly & calm, but let us know they were understaffed that night and the kitchen was backed up with orders, yet every drink and dish came out very promptly and it was all delicious. That is no easy feat. We'll be back to try the legendary roast beef and some of the other options but all I wanted that night was a juicy rare burger smothered in cheese & mushrooms, and that's exactly what I got. Thanks!

Yelp
If you are looking for "white table cloth" dining....You are in the wrong place (actually you are in the wrong County). This is a fun, at home, laid-back atmosphere. Good food and drinks. Lots if choices. Good service. Amazing Roast Beef...Melts in your mouth. Save room for some fine dessert selections too!

Yelp
Thursday night, wing night. Wings and salads all around at the table tonight. They offer several variations from mild to habanero. Satisfying and delicious. Side salads are, simple, fresh and just the right size. The service makes you want to come back again and again. Friendly attentive, and fast. The ambiance has a local feel. It doesn't take more than a visit or two before you become a regular.

Mark C.

Yelp
Excellent roast beef sandwich. Not far from Bethel NY, Woodstock/Bethel Woods & all that. Crowded but great service. Tap beer. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The food Annie's is always fresh and delicious. It was burger night and I enjoyed the hamburger on rye with cheese and grilled onions. The burger was cooked to my liking. It was free formed 1/2 burger, juicy and delicious. Soup that night was tomato, beef, and macaroni that was very good. My husband had the cheeseburger and fries - see the pic. He wasn't unhappy with his choice either!

Yelp
Famous for their Hot Open Roast Beef with real mashed potatoes entree. From the outside it looks like someone's house, but inside you feel like your in a hunting cabin which is now a bar restaurant. Staff is friendly and the food and drinks are great.

Yelp
Still love this place, though there were some missing items in my take-out order tonight. Then, a little oddly, they said they could not refund the missing items without me coming back in; but a little later, they said they could if I read them the credit card number. So in the end, they made it right. Now: Onto the food. As before, their fried foods are stellar. The fried cheese curds were amazing while they were hot, an explosion of crispy-crunchy melty fresh cheese. The fires are well done, with lots of crispy ones. The sweet potato fries are lightly coated, crisp, and sweet. We liked the philly cheese steaks. There's so much meat that you might ask to see if they can add some more cheese. I ordered the french dip and it was unusual, cooked in a panini press. Again, a lot of meat but in the press it forms into a block o' meat. I ordered it cold and rare but it came hot and well done; I think the rare version would be better. Even with tonight's issues, I still love Annie's Ruff Cut (and yes, that's the correct name, even though right now, it's listed in Yelp under its previous name. I reported the change and it will probably be corrected soon.)

Jenny S.

Yelp
Annie's Ruff cut is exactly what it purports to be and it is fabulous. They roast their own roast beef and slice it paper thin for every sandwich. Biting through stacks of it, cold or hot, is completely tender -- like biting through a perfectly cooked filet mignon. They also make their own kettle cooked potato chips to accompany each sandwich. I personally believe the cheesesteak here -- made from their homemade roast beef -- is one of the top three cheesesteaks I have EVER had and I have had many. It's all because of their expertly roasted beef. I love this place and I hope it remains in the area at the same quality forever. I have never been to another place like it. It is uniquesly delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I would leave less than 1/2 star for this lame excuse for a restaurant. I have been a frequent visitor of the area for 35 years. This place always disappoints. I try to support this local Community every chance i get . But this place should just close its doors! The food is less than adequate but honestly based on my past visits it was to be expected. But what really kills this place is the service. The incompetence is real! They are rude, incompetent, uneducated, unskilled and poorly trained. It is just awful. Do not waste your time or money. Never ever again!

Yelp
I love their food. It almost never disappoints and their loaded fries are to die for!! Good service too, Kim is my favorite waitress there and personally I usually only like when she waits on me and my boyfriend. She's fast, hard working and very nice. She always tells you what's for specials and gives you all your options. We love her. Overall the ambiance is cozy. But it can be a little loud there sometimes and makes it hard to have a good conversation especially when they have the open mic night when the one guy performs live for a few hours. He plays songs most people don't know and it's just too loud when he's there..

Allen N.

Yelp
Becca and Kim none better !!! Annie's Ruff Cut , you never been there ?? Give it a try.

Yelp
Stopped here after the bethel museum, wish I kept driving! We had the Turkey, cheese acranberry Mayo sandwich, it was extremely dry could not taste the Mayo or any cranberry whatsoever, my wife would not eat hers! I also ordered a small Mac and cheese which was very cheap tasting with a off taste on the bread crumb topping. My wife then figured to order the wings since she was not enjoying her food but the wings were dry as well! Prices are fair so I'll give them that but if it's not enjoyable what matters? Drive to Callicoon much better options ahead! Sorry

Cindy H.

Yelp
Found this lil gem driving past after leaving Woodstock museum in Bethel! Food & wine were good & satisfied us! Great job!

Melanie M.

Yelp
The service is nice. It's a little crowded. The scene is older country folk who stare at you as you walk in if you look anything under 50 years old. Not a young crowd at all. The food was just ok. If you're older you will fit right in.
google avatar

Mandy B.

Yelp
If your in the area of Bethel Woods - definitely go here. Amazing food, family friendly.
google avatar

Mary Lou M.

Yelp
Not fancy but the Roast beef was incredible! Service was fast and friendly. Great lunch spot especially if you want a cocktail too!

Tom B.

Yelp
Annie is always ready to satisfy all customer needs and requests. They always had a great reputation for their roast beef and Annie continues that tradition. I'll go there on average twice a week and staff are always anxious to please.

Yelp
Good food. Great prices. Cold beer. That's a winner in my book ! Wings were very good.

Yelp
Love this place! New owners are doing a great job. Miss the salads though just not the same as Hank's but all in all two thumbs up. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
A local pub with friendly staff and great food Annie herself works there Cozy, friendly welcoming atmosphere

Yelp

Yelp
We were a party of 3 adults arriving at the restaurant at 1:45 on a Sunday afternoon. There were three other tables occupied but two of them were already eating their food and the third table (a party of 2) had just ordered. We ordered our food- simple orders - 2 ordered burgers that come with lettuce, tomato, onion and fries and the third was an avacado blt w/chips. Our order was placed at 1:55 pm. We sat there until 2:49 pm (54 minutes) before getting our food. The man running the show checked on us once during that time and we said "just waiting for our food" The couple at the other table still hadn't received their food and when it finally came out 10 minutes after ours we saw all they had ordered was a loaded nacho plate and chicken tender baskets. We could tell they were annoyed because we heard them call someone on their phone to say they were running late because their "quick stop for lunch" was anything but quick. So.... The two burgers had no lettuce, tomato or onion and at this point we weren't going to ask for any. The food was good but the service severely lacking. I can't imagine what happens when this place is busy. I'm afraid they lost a potential new customer today.

Norvil M.

Yelp
Waited over an hour and a half after placing our orders, seen customers who walked in after us being served and even worse, take out orders were being sent out. First and last time we ever walk into that place.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Service is very slow and the roast beef was very very salty... not really a family friendly place either
google avatar

Frank N.

Yelp
Finally made it here! Of course I had to try the roast beef. It was tasty! Stacked high too! I was expecting hot but it was cold...I like both anyway! Good IPA's too! Should get more NEIPA's We will be back for sure!

Yelp
I heard so many positive things about this place. So I went to the ruff cut last Saturday. I have to say the place is small and don't have a large dining room so the place was crowded. We were a party of 4 and we sat at the bar and had a few drinks waiting for a table. The waitress/ barmaid was super friendly under pressure of a packed restaurant. We finally got a table. We order wings as an appetizer and I had their signature dish the hot open roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes. Well it was delicious. So all the hype proved to be true. I'll be going back this week again to have the roast beef au jus.

John G.

Yelp
Annie's Ruff Cut was formerly the legendary Ruff Cut off Route 17B in Cochecton. The Ruff Cut was known wide around for its great roast beef sandwich. Annie's Ruff Cut still features the great roast beef as part of a full, excellent menu at very reasonable prices. It is a favorite place for western Sullivan County and visitors from far and wide.

Michael K.

Yelp
disgusting open roast beef sandwich. sat down last night at 5;45 pm. food not out till 7:15. finally a pile of shredded beef on a single piece of white bread with salty gravy...the food looked like dog food to be honest. very sketchy place IMO.

Stacey E.

Yelp
One of the few favorite places of mine! Love the Food!!! Love the owners. Very friendly. Best Burgers in Sullivan County! I have so many favorites. Never ever disappointed. Daily specials. Yummy homemade desserts.

Eliasia S.

Yelp
We took our family out to eat for St Patty's Day we felt so welcome. Chicken fingers were housemaid and the cheese sauce for the fries is out of this world. My husband got the roast beef which was delicious and I had a pastrami Reuben. Everything was really good from beginning to end. Small and inviting right off 17b definitely worth the drive there. The portions were surprising we're still eating leftovers from yesterday too good to throw out. We will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Ann-Marie S.

Yelp
Now Annie's Ruff Cut. Excellent service and atmosphere. The beers are cold and fresh with daily drink specials. The food is always excellent, a great variety of wings and delicious sandwiches all cooked from scratch. You can taste the love. Look out for the venison chili special, it's truly amazing.

Margaret M.

Yelp
Great food for a somewhat tucked away spot. Annie served us- super accommodating. Not many places are open for lunch nearby and a great stop for after your Bethel Woods Museum visit.

Nancy P.

Yelp
The original Ruff Cut was awesome. Went there after new owners took over and the French dip roast beef sandwich was overcooked, tough, and rubbery like it was microwaved. Yuck!

John A.

Yelp
Was there last night for dinner, my second visit since they reopened. Went here for lunch the day after they reopened. The place was packed on this second visit. We got a table after a short wait. We ordered...then the wait began. Others who arrived after we did received their orders before us. A table before us also waited. It took over 50 minutes before our food arrived. Apologies were made, but a hats off to another tables waitress, as my wife overheard her tell her customers their was a problem with the chef. That was much better than being told "it will be a bit longer". I will say, that the food was excellent on this and my previous visit. We loved the old Matson's and the food here appears to be just as good, if not better. Hopefully last nights service/chef issue has been resolved. We hope they do well and we will definitely visit again.

Debra L.

Yelp
For a new place that just opened there was no one in there and service was slow going... I ordered the special which the new owner suggested.. When it came I was surprised to see it in a small bowl, it was a chicken breast over mashed potatoes with some fresh veggies with French onion soup over it. The dish was absolutely delicious but I only wish they gave 3 pieces of chicken instead of 1 1/2 little pieces of chicken, more vegetables instead if two pieces of broccoli and a side salad and a biscuit would have been great considering it was a dinner special! I was still hungry when I left... DARL

Yelp
It is now called Matsons, the food is good and the soups are homemade so they are very tasty. Bob the owner is a nice guy and usually greets you with a smile. The reason for the 3 stars is, as a local I have no idea when they are actually open. It's never consistent and I think the reason is because they want to sell the place so they care but not that much... What I mean by that is when they are there they care very much and the product is good but because every time I drive by it's a crap shoot whether they are open, not that much.

Robert C.

Yelp
Great little gem in the middle of nowhere. Great food. I have been going there for years whenever I am in the area. It is always consistently good.

D W.

Yelp
Awesome food. The menu is great and there is something for everyone. Great burgers. The roast beef is flawless. Made fresh in house. Good selection of ice cold beer. New owners are very down to earth and hospitable. Service is good despite being very busy during opening week. Go treat yourself. Everyone is welcome.

Abigail S.

Yelp
Omg! This place was amazing. The cheese curds were delicious and the burger was amazing. It was just a quick stop we made but it was well worth it. The cookie sundae was giant and was enough to share.
