"Frank Lloyd Wright was often known for his nature-inspired, humanistic works of architecture, but while his design for Milwaukee’s Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church certainly retains some natural curves, it looks completely alien. Wright was inspired by Greek Orthodox symbology in his design for the church, incorporating the symbols into the structure itself. The body of the church is a shallow, rounded dome that echoes the domes found in Greek Orthodox chapels, all supported by a quartet of support struts that form the simple Greek Orthodox cross. The Greek Orthodox Cross is again incorporated in a number of the smaller details such as designs on some of the interior features and cutouts on the exterior. The interior of the saucer chapel mirrors the exterior shape and is illuminated all around the rim of the ceiling and by the semi-circular windows that run the circumference of the space. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church was designed just a few years prior to Wright’s death in 1959 and was not actually finished until after he passed away. The church, while extremely modern, is almost all circles and soft curves which was clearly Wright’s intention. Yet the finished product does look, more than anything, like a UFO. What Wright would think of this alien reading of his work is unknown, but we can pray that he would find it as delightful as everyone else." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The architecture is amazingly breathtaking. Frank Lloyd Wright's attention to detail is just amazing to see in person. It's definitely worth a visit to partake in the self-guided tour, even if you're not religious or spiritual.

Unique architecture. I study the design and art work for churches in different cities and I have to admit this one is very unique. The curves and the reflections are very well designed. Located in an open area that makes it easy to spot the church from different angles. I didn't have a chance to go inside since it was closed. But I hope people discover peace and beauty at this place.

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright design. We took a tour of the church. The guides were very friendly and informative.

We visited the Taste of Greece fest on Sunday. We toured the church, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. If you've never seen an Orthodox church, go see this one. They give tours. We then had some Greek food and watched some dancing. Everyone was very friendly and the food was delish! We'll definitely go again.

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1956. Wright died in 1959, two years before the church was completed. On either side of the church are sunken gardens. It is difficult to believe this was designed and built 50+ years ago - it would appear modern if built today. It is best to contact them concerning tours. Previously there were open tour hours however, this has changed. (Of course you can simply go slightly after a Sunday service.) Unless there has been a change in policy, you cannot take pictures inside the church. The interior is deceptive. What appears so large on the outside is significantly small inside. (It’s the angles.) It is an amazing piece of architecture.

Another Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece. I also had trouble with tour times; but since I was visiting on a Sunday I just attended a service. The only pictures you can take are of the outside of the edifice. It was an experience; and I was led to believe that I was in attendance at a truncated service since there was a church festival to attend. The atmosphere was very communal and intimate; you felt part of a neighborhood.
