Anoma Boutique House

First off, the Anoma Boutique House is not for effete snobs who pay sixteen dollars a night and expect five star accommodations. It is, instead, the best low-priced hotel in the Old City that I have found in a few dozen nights in twenty or more hotels there. I have returned with my wife, and with my children, and love the place! After four excellent stays, it is time to give the Anoma the credit it deserves.|| ||Beginning with what the place does not have, the place has no elevator, so the fourth floor is a haul if you have two bags apiece, but the staff will carry all your luggage, so this is a non-event. The menu is not much, but why would it be anything else when it is within walking distance of twenty restaurants of repute in various cuisines? It is a family run hotel and yes, the family dines at one of the lobby tables and children abound - I have always found that charming, rather than a drawback. The family does not speak much English, true, but much of their reserve comes from this fact and not from any lack of service ethic...a simple, "Sawasdee Khap" and they are all over helping you out with tours, rentals, tips, and service.||||As for what Anoma House has, there is plenty: lovely soft beds, big clean rooms, fresh linens air dried above the place, interesting architecture. A lovely roof deck with a small Sala (okay, my favorite jacuzzi is gone now), a location that is out of this world convenient, assisted access to every service you could need around town from drivers to tours to dry cleaners, business service centers and money exchange. It also has amazing, huge, quiet rooms at the end of the hall on each floor, with huge bathtubs and showers and beds beyond King -Sized. If you go to a hotel to sleep, be comforted, and gain a little local flavor, all in an inexpensive package, Anoma House is your place!||||Anoma House is an ideal base-of-operations hotel for long stays and for those more interested in having a cozy place to sleep than a four star experience. It is safe, happy, clean, uplifting, and charming, and my family and I will continue to patronize the place on each trip. Oh, and I forgot to mention they are four doors from the best Thai Massage place I have found in Chiang Mai province!

We ended up at Anoma after finding our initially intended hotel under construction - but we were thankful for what Anoma offered us. Whil (sp?), the manager, was a great help in calling tour companies to setup our outings for a cooking class, evening visit to Doi Suthep, and time with elephants. The staff also graciously let us use their bowls, plates, and cutlery whenever we returned to the hotel with fresh market food - which we particularly enjoyed! They did so despite offering their own meal service.||The only reasons we don't rate Anoma with 5 stars is the lack of a lock box for our valuables and the bed. If you require a quality, supportive mattress for a good night sleep, you may want to look elsewhere. Our bed, though sufficient for our sound sleep (after full days of walking and exploring), had sagging spots and was less cushioned than at our other resorts.||The location to the Saturday and Sunday night walking markets was great! There is also a tasty fresh market easily in walking distance. Both were additional benefits on top of the great service we received during our stay at Anoma, which we enjoyed.

Before book a room here, consider other options. Very dirty room, linen and towels smelly and stained. Disgusting. The shower was terrible, dirty and full of insect. And cherry on the cake, 3/4 holes in the ceiling and dust everywhere. No light in the room cause 2 of the four lamps was out of order. It’s a pity,this hotel has a great position, it could be much better than this simply adjusting some elementary things. Staff so and so, they can’t print for us a flight ticket... nothing to add. Never again.

The location in Chiang Mai is just great no doubt about it! Once upon a time this place must have been superb in overall. For now you can say it is a decent stay for decent money. You can see it is old and not maintenance for few years now. The whirlpool at the rooftop is gone and there is just a hole in the roof now:) Breakfasts are average but you can live with that in Chiang Mai where eating is the best almost everywhere - you just go around the corner and eat some more:) ||||We stayed with 2 small kids on one bed and it was ok. ||||We absolutely loved being in Chiang Mai!:)

There in no doubt this place could do with some renovation and general maintenance but you don’t come to the heart of Chiang Mai to hide away in a luxury resort. The Anoma is in the thick of it with easy walks to any number of temples and markets. Tourist offices, restaurants, bars and currency changers abound, as do tuk tuks and taxis.||The Anoma staff is friendly and helpful. It is a family run business with the family living on site. So it’s not a slick operation but the rooms very spacious and clean, if somewhat dated and dark. The bathroom windows need replacing badly but our back room, away from the main thoroughfare was quiet.||I wouldn’t recommend the place to someone who struggles with stairs but my wife and I, both in our sixties, negotiated the four floors to our room without bouncing our large suitcase on every step.||We’d stay here again if we returned to Chiang Mai.

The multi generation family owners and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. It's a relaxed place to stay in a good location in the old city.||||With some significant TLC this hotel would deserve an exceptional rating. Unfortunately sordid shower, collapsed mattress, unreliable wifi, dripping a/c, and a overall absence of maintenance detract from a comfortable stay.

We arrived at Anoma in the evening. Seen from the outside, it looks fine. But, inside it is completely diferent: the reception is a mess (the owners live there and their private table is just in front of the front desk and they keeep it with used plates all the time; they have a nice baby and his toys are all around there, etc.), the room was dark and the bathroom was very dirty. (My wife even considered buying some desinfectant to pour there).On the top of the building, where they claim there is a wood deck and a jacuzzi, the only thing that we found were clothes hanging from a string to dry. On the "deck" there was a big hole indicating that in a remote past there existed a jacuzzi. The only positive point that we found there was the front desk clerck that was very friendly and always ready to help in tours and instructions. I do not recommend this hotel.

Fair price. Great shower. Springy but adequate bed. Rooms too dark. Light out in vanity. Intense incence just flows through the bedroom door (old hing type) Smoker in front ruin the experience of sitting anywhere downstairs. Smoke just envelopes everything and everyone, including the baby nursery. Install a no smoking policy 20ft from property. Please. Let's make a stand and help smokers quite busy providing fair options for all. The host are really nice, but not enough to return.
