We stayed in this hotel for a week and our experience was rather pleasant. The view is wonderful. All the staff from the people in the front desk, the waiters to housekeepers were absolutely amazing. They were always polite, welcoming and very accommodating. The food was delicious. The only thing that we felt it needs some improvement, is an upgrade in the rooms, the bathroom was a bit old and the taps not very convenient. Also the breakfast was lacking some variety in my opinion. Apart from these small details, we enjoyed our stay and we might return sometime soon.

Myself and my wife stayed here a few weeks ago in one of the "Shepherds Huts", had a lovely time. We used the spa and the outdoor hot tub, had a lovely massage, some drinks in the bar and the Chateaubriand at dinner in the restaurant was excellent. The breakfast may be the best hotel breakfast I've had. (A big statement indeed) Honestly cant fault this place and will defiantly come back in the near future.

Beautiful hotel set in amazing grounds on Ullswater, location is great. Modern yet tasteful decor with a nod to the building's heritage. Clean and tidy everywhere to a very high standard. Food in all restaurants (including the brackenrigg inn) was excellent. Amenities, including the pool, were great (if a tad cold). Very family friendly in set up and approach. Reasonable value for money given the quality. All in all an excellent hotel... Except, the service was very odd, at check in they gave us a key and that was that, no welcome, no explanation of when and where breakfast was, what the amenities were etc. Half the staff appeared to be new and weren't sure what to do, the other half were comedically aloof. Lots of waiting, confused orders, missed orders, mainly just slow. In the main restaurant, it seemed the chefs agreed with us as they kept shouting "service" with steadily more exasperation creeping into their voices with every echo, eventually one of a gaggle of conversing waitresses would condescend to wait. It kept us entertained at least. In all seriousness, when it comes to service, informal is good, professional is better. In short, great hotel for Instagram, not so much for real life.

We've just stayed at Another Place. It definitely was not just another place. We have stayed in many hotels, both in the UK and overseas, this hotel is now our 'favourite place' and we will be returning, without a doubt. We started the day by celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and renewing our vows, we arrived at the venue with our 3 children in our wedding attire. We were given a lovely warm welcome and were congratulated by numerous members of staff and other guests at the hotel. The hotel is set in the most picturesque surroundings and is decorated tastefully, to the highest standard. The kids room was so colourful and fun. As an interiors enthusiast I will probably ring back to enquire about some of the paint colours. The staff gave us permission to take photographs within the grounds, which we were very grateful for, we will treasure those memories forever. The hotel captures the feeling of home, its cosy and warm and the staff are very friendly. There's numerous special touches that elevate the experience. There's a selection of games in the main seating area. Wellingtons/brollies and coats to borrow if you need them. Our boys particularly loved the free tunnocs teacakes. There's a giant swing in the garden and a kids club so you get the best of both worlds and can enjoy a break should you need it. The pool with its panoramic views of the mountains, was magical. There are designated times for adult only and family swims and there is a shallow pool which is perfect for young children. We didn't use the spa/gym facilities on this occasion but should you wish the option is there along with a hot tub and multiple saunas. We had dinner bed and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was exceptional. They had almost everything you could wish for. My husband would have liked hash browns. But what was there was wonderful and our evening meal was very nice too. My only tiny criticism was (a couple of elements on my dishes were a little salty but overall the food devine). I cried when we had to leave and as I said we will definitely be back again. All in all our stay was perfect and we are very pleased we found this special place.

Just one night but the staff made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room was delightful as is the hotel generally. The food was really good and enjoyable. A really pleasant break in a delightful area. If we had had more time we would have taken up the offer of a wild swim - maybe!

A real treat. Overlooking Ullswater. Friendly welcoming staff. Food choices, a pub, 2 restaurants and a pizzeria. Swimming pool saunas hot tub all easy to access. Walks by Lake where it is easy to take a swim if that is your bag. And our dog loved it there too.

Don’t stay here during school holidays if you don’t have children. We booked a cabin but arrived a couple of hours early so had to wait in the main house. The main dining room was a total mess - food all over the floor. Dirty tables. Kids clothes and wellies everywhere. Chaos. We found some space in the lounge where we sat for 2 hours and not one staff member came in to clear up, tidy the space, remove cups and plates. It was a total mess and no one cared. We have 4 - now older - children. So we’re not anti kids. It’s just that it was a horrible, dirty, noisy mess that no one seemed interested in keeping tidy. ||Our cabin was just perfect. Faultless. Incredible view. So we just chose to not use the main hotel or inside pool at all. I couldn’t face the idea of what breakfast looked like during half term so we ordered to our room. Our|Cooked English breakfast arrived with one piece of cling film on the top and bearing in mind we were the furthest cabin at the bottom of the lake it was totally cold when it arrived. The next day we asked them to make sure the food was kept warm and the plates arrived with a full cooked breakfast on and no cover at all! Totally open to the air and totally stone cold when it arrived. ||The staff here seem young and they really don’t care about the place or service. Why people would take a plated hot cooked breakfast from kitchen to deliver outside to a room at the bottom of the lake and not ask “is this going to be warm when it gets there?!” I’ve no idea. ||When we checked out I explained the issue with our breakfasts and she took £16 off our £1000 bill. I wish she hadn’t bothered.

Great place to stay, lovely food and particularly good if you are looking for an active holiday. We went open water swimming, cold dipping and sauna by the lake. We also used a local company to plan a road bike trip around the lakes which was amazing. We used another local guide for a fell running experience which again was fantastic. Hotel is in a great spot for all these activities.
