We've just stayed at Another Place. It definitely was not just another place. We have stayed in many hotels, both in the UK and overseas, this hotel is now our 'favourite place' and we will be returning, without a doubt. We started the day by celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and renewing our vows, we arrived at the venue with our 3 children in our wedding attire. We were given a lovely warm welcome and were congratulated by numerous members of staff and other guests at the hotel. The hotel is set in the most picturesque surroundings and is decorated tastefully, to the highest standard. The kids room was so colourful and fun. As an interiors enthusiast I will probably ring back to enquire about some of the paint colours. The staff gave us permission to take photographs within the grounds, which we were very grateful for, we will treasure those memories forever. The hotel captures the feeling of home, its cosy and warm and the staff are very friendly. There's numerous special touches that elevate the experience. There's a selection of games in the main seating area. Wellingtons/brollies and coats to borrow if you need them. Our boys particularly loved the free tunnocs teacakes. There's a giant swing in the garden and a kids club so you get the best of both worlds and can enjoy a break should you need it. The pool with its panoramic views of the mountains, was magical. There are designated times for adult only and family swims and there is a shallow pool which is perfect for young children. We didn't use the spa/gym facilities on this occasion but should you wish the option is there along with a hot tub and multiple saunas. We had dinner bed and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was exceptional. They had almost everything you could wish for. My husband would have liked hash browns. But what was there was wonderful and our evening meal was very nice too. My only tiny criticism was (a couple of elements on my dishes were a little salty but overall the food devine). I cried when we had to leave and as I said we will definitely be back again. All in all our stay was perfect and we are very pleased we found this special place.

Just one night but the staff made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room was delightful as is the hotel generally. The food was really good and enjoyable. A really pleasant break in a delightful area. If we had had more time we would have taken up the offer of a wild swim - maybe!

Beautiful hotel set in amazing grounds on Ullswater, location is great. Modern yet tasteful decor with a nod to the building's heritage. Clean and tidy everywhere to a very high standard. Food in all restaurants (including the brackenrigg inn) was excellent. Amenities, including the pool, were great (if a tad cold). Very family friendly in set up and approach. Reasonable value for money given the quality. All in all an excellent hotel... Except, the service was very odd, at check in they gave us a key and that was that, no welcome, no explanation of when and where breakfast was, what the amenities were etc. Half the staff appeared to be new and weren't sure what to do, the other half were comedically aloof. Lots of waiting, confused orders, missed orders, mainly just slow. In the main restaurant, it seemed the chefs agreed with us as they kept shouting "service" with steadily more exasperation creeping into their voices with every echo, eventually one of a gaggle of conversing waitresses would condescend to wait. It kept us entertained at least. In all seriousness, when it comes to service, informal is good, professional is better. In short, great hotel for Instagram, not so much for real life.

We were here as 3 generations of a family to celebrate my special birthday. The ages were 5 to 71. |We had a suite looking over the fron - definitely worth it. Others had family rooms which were really good - main room with King size bed, bunk bedroom and family bathroom.|Meals were all very good although service could be improved. Lovely breakfast buffet. Bar was nice and very relaxed space indoors and outdoors. Library was a nice relaxing space with newspapers, magazines and games.|The indoor pool is warm- small but good. A separate area at end for small children. A hot tub for over 18s. looking over the lake is lovely. |The glasshouse pizza restaurant is informal and very good for drinks and pizza. Close to the lake.|Lovely grounds around the hotel.|We had a paddle board so used that both days on the lake. Free wetsuits and lifejackets provided which was really useful. |There were other facilities that we did not use - kids club (our kids were too busy paddle boarding), gym, spa.|Fabulous setting on the shores of Lake Ullswater. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, after wanting to visit for the last couple of years, our overall experience during a recent birthday trip fell well below expectations - and how the hotel is marketed online.||Another Place should not be positioning itself as ideal for couples, spa breaks, or special occasions. In reality, it’s clearly geared towards families - and only families.||The atmosphere was chaotic, the service inconsistent, and the hospitality and thoughtful touches you'd expect at this price point were completely absent. The food offering needs a serious rethink - particularly breakfast, which was more Travelodge than deluxe country retreat. Our lake view suite was the only saving grace - it was genuinely lovely and the one part of the stay that felt worth the money.||Would I recommend this place to others without children? Absolutely not. Would I return? Possibly, once our forthcoming baby is older.||It’s a real shame, because the location is stunning and the views are incredible. But sadly, that’s where the magic ends.

Perfect hotel for lakeside tranquility. If you want to do wild swimming- Colin Hill at the Ullswater Swimming Plcae (part of the hotel) is an amazing guide and coach. We booked both family and individual wild swimming sessions with Colin and they were a brilliant part of the holiday! Lots of choice at the hotel for places to sit and relax, as well as a lovely indoor pool. Food delicious at the Living Space and Rampsbeck Restaurant. Great place for a complete break.

What a gem! It’s a beautiful hotel set in amazing grounds. Thoughtfully laid out. The decor is gorgeous with muted tones. There are wellies in the foyer should we wish to borrow them. The hotel is pretty much right on the lake with access should you want to kayak or swim. |There is an additional sauna further towards the lake (swimming pool is joined to the hotel) There even a couple of rope swings hidden on the trees. |We stayed in what they call the ‘best’ type of room with amazing views over the lake and mountains. |We had dinner in the restaurant. The food was outstanding. Smallish portions but great quality. Unfortunately the prices reflected this with many mains around £30 each. ||On the flip side. The soundproofing could be better between rooms. Also the doors are traditional key. The doors are prone to slam and the key locking can be noisy. Lastly be aware there are a lot of stairs. (We were with my elderly father and his room was up 2 pretty long flights of stairs) There is no lift. It’s also popular with dog| owners. Also note this hotel does not come cheap!!! (Around £450 per room for a Saturday night in September)

Very disappointing weekend for an adults only big family birthday gathering. In my opinion the senior staff (not the waiters/waitresses or cleaners) need re- educating in good customer service. Offering 7 adults one restaurant table time of 5:30pm (when booking 7 weeks in advance) or trying to seat 7 adults on a long table so one is facing an empty space when there is a perfectly good curved booth area available where we can all see each other (which after a lot of huffing and puffing we got!) is not putting the customer first. The cooked breakfast on the Saturday morning at 9:15am was either lukewarm or cold and inedible. The one plus was excellent food on the Saturday night. Third time here as some not inconsiderable expense and will be our last. My adult children who stay at some great hotels were not impressed at all. The only plus left at this hotel now is the access to the Lake and the fact that it is dog friendly.
