Another Place, The Lake

We stayed in one of the shepherds huts in December which were beautifully finished and perfect for a couples getaway. Not only were all the facilities fantastic but the whole venue had a lovely festive atmosphere. There were a lot of large family parties getting the generations together to celebrate. The location was also stunning, being right on the lake. The staff were also incredibly helpful and kind. After a storm meant all the trains from the local station were cancelled they managed to find us an alternative route home, saving our bacon. A great stay in the lakes.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and our experience was rather pleasant. The view is wonderful. All the staff from the people in the front desk, the waiters to housekeepers were absolutely amazing. They were always polite, welcoming and very accommodating. The food was delicious. The only thing that we felt it needs some improvement, is an upgrade in the rooms, the bathroom was a bit old and the taps not very convenient. Also the breakfast was lacking some variety in my opinion. Apart from these small details, we enjoyed our stay and we might return sometime soon.

We enjoyed the Skate By The Water ice skating and wood fired pizza meal experience. We didn’t need to be a hotel resident to attend. Car parking was provided too. ||The temporary ice rink is beautiful, perfect size and the Christmas trees, music, fairy twinkling lights and close up views of Ullswater lake provided a wonderful atmosphere. ||We were a party of 4 with two skaters and 2 non-skaters. There was a lovely warm bar / drink & snack area for the non-skaters to wait for us. All the skating equipment was well maintained. Staff were safety conscious and extremely helpful in the rink. ||The glass room restaurant and snack truck staff were professional and provided excellent customer service. The food was absolutely delicious! Great choice on the pizza menu and everything made by chef from scratch. We cannot wait to return next year!

Disappointing stay and felt for the money it was overrated. So many little things could change to make the five star establishment which right now it is not.||When we arrived at the hotel , it was raining however there were limited umbrellas and the welcome was anything but warm. We were showed to our room which was in pitch darkness making it very hard to find the light switches etc. The outside deck was unusable with leaves all in the outside bath and all over the deck area.. ||Consider they're a very dog friendly hotel when we went up to the living room bar there was no offer of a water bowl bed or treats for the dog . The food in the living room was okay, but nothing spectacular.. ||Breakfast on both days was cold and lacked all the touches you'd expect of a five star hotel, including a menu to pick your cooked choice from . Really disappointing . ||The spa massages were amazing for treatments for five star - amazing. ||The pool itself was nice however a tad on the cold side and when questioned it. It's because they want to keep it at a temperature that allows for both relaxing and Lane swimming totally understand but there is no way that was 29°.. the loungers around the pool were stained and broken and it's not a great place to relax. The family time is basically all day so if you want to relaxing time reading your book around a pool don't go here.. ||Dinner the second evening was again disappointing average at best. The chicken wings were sloppy and the steak undercooked the sauce was cold had to be returned and sent back and the carrots definitely weren't honey roasted with thyme - they were just boiled carrots . ||The beds were comfy. We slept well, but the amenities within the room would definitely not that of a five star hotel.. such as no cotton wool, mini bar , corkscrew , umbrellas that worked , slippers etc. . ||I did give feedback upon checkout and have had a response from the hotel since, but it was pretty unsatisfactory. ||This would be a great hotel if your expectations of five star are not high and your a family wanting to go and have some time with the children but if you're a couple who have high expectations avoid.

We've just stayed at Another Place. It definitely was not just another place. We have stayed in many hotels, both in the UK and overseas, this hotel is now our 'favourite place' and we will be returning, without a doubt. We started the day by celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and renewing our vows, we arrived at the venue with our 3 children in our wedding attire. We were given a lovely warm welcome and were congratulated by numerous members of staff and other guests at the hotel. The hotel is set in the most picturesque surroundings and is decorated tastefully, to the highest standard. The kids room was so colourful and fun. As an interiors enthusiast I will probably ring back to enquire about some of the paint colours. The staff gave us permission to take photographs within the grounds, which we were very grateful for, we will treasure those memories forever. The hotel captures the feeling of home, its cosy and warm and the staff are very friendly. There's numerous special touches that elevate the experience. There's a selection of games in the main seating area. Wellingtons/brollies and coats to borrow if you need them. Our boys particularly loved the free tunnocs teacakes. There's a giant swing in the garden and a kids club so you get the best of both worlds and can enjoy a break should you need it. The pool with its panoramic views of the mountains, was magical. There are designated times for adult only and family swims and there is a shallow pool which is perfect for young children. We didn't use the spa/gym facilities on this occasion but should you wish the option is there along with a hot tub and multiple saunas. We had dinner bed and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was exceptional. They had almost everything you could wish for. My husband would have liked hash browns. But what was there was wonderful and our evening meal was very nice too. My only tiny criticism was (a couple of elements on my dishes were a little salty but overall the food devine). I cried when we had to leave and as I said we will definitely be back again. All in all our stay was perfect and we are very pleased we found this special place.

Myself and my wife stayed here a few weeks ago in one of the "Shepherds Huts", had a lovely time. We used the spa and the outdoor hot tub, had a lovely massage, some drinks in the bar and the Chateaubriand at dinner in the restaurant was excellent. The breakfast may be the best hotel breakfast I've had. (A big statement indeed) Honestly cant fault this place and will defiantly come back in the near future.

Beautiful hotel set in amazing grounds on Ullswater, location is great. Modern yet tasteful decor with a nod to the building's heritage. Clean and tidy everywhere to a very high standard. Food in all restaurants (including the brackenrigg inn) was excellent. Amenities, including the pool, were great (if a tad cold). Very family friendly in set up and approach. Reasonable value for money given the quality. All in all an excellent hotel... Except, the service was very odd, at check in they gave us a key and that was that, no welcome, no explanation of when and where breakfast was, what the amenities were etc. Half the staff appeared to be new and weren't sure what to do, the other half were comedically aloof. Lots of waiting, confused orders, missed orders, mainly just slow. In the main restaurant, it seemed the chefs agreed with us as they kept shouting "service" with steadily more exasperation creeping into their voices with every echo, eventually one of a gaggle of conversing waitresses would condescend to wait. It kept us entertained at least. In all seriousness, when it comes to service, informal is good, professional is better. In short, great hotel for Instagram, not so much for real life.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The hotel itself is spotless, with attention to cleanliness in every detail. Our room was comfortable and offered stunning views that made the stay even more memorable. A truly great hotel experience — highly recommended!
