Anping Fort

A lot of areas were under renovation. We found the history interesting. But, if you're on a limited timeframe, there are many other interesting places besides An Ping Fort that are more worth the time.

Only 3 floors up, my 2 year old daughter was able to go up the stairs all the way. It's a nice 360 view of Tainan. The fort itself is serene and nice to walk around

A must-see spot in Tainan. The fort itself is beautiful and the watchtower gives a simple overview of the key buildings in Tainan from different directions. However, do bear in mind that the stairs leading to the top are very narrow, people with walking difficulties might have problem climbing. Something I find is very lacking is the information provided of this fort. There are 2 small exhibits (one next to a gift shop and the other near the washroom close to the entrance) that give some background and history but not comprehensive enough. Also, when I was there, there were groups of students/ tourists taking photos, chattering away, so if you are expecting a peaceful walk and explore the place slowly, it might disappoint you. But I believe if you visit early, you have a good chance of avoiding the crowd and the visit would be more pleasant.

Beautiful Fort with red bricks. The view of Tainan from the watchtower is amazing. Not much to learn about the fort other than a room with it's history timeline. It is just a fort, so other than looking at it and take pictures, there is not much to do. I also don't understand why you can't enter the basement.

A must visit when you are in Tainan, especially when you are Dutch. A place with a lot of history and where they are not afraid to show it. Very interesting to see how multiple cultures used the fort. Would recommend to see the place but keep in mind it is a more touristic place so it might be busy.

Anping Fort is the oldest fortress in Taiwan. Located in Tainan, it is a landmark of immense historical significance, often considered the birthplace of modern Taiwanese history. We can see the site is a mix of ruins and later constructions: -The Red-Brick Watchtower -Fort Zeelandia Museum -Remnants of the Original Walls -Historic Well & Archaeological Sites -Statue of Koxinga

Quick visit of the fort, you can go on top of the tower. They have an app which allow you to travel using AR, helping you to see how the full complexe was prior the current status. A small museum is made, it is good to start form there. The tickets for foreigners is 70NT and for Student it is 35NT provided you show a physical student card ( photo on the phone doesn’t work). If you are coming by car, plenty of free and paid parking lots are available.

A historic site with plenty of stories to explore. The milk soft serve is delicious. Best to visit briefly and save time for nearby shopping

A must visit if you are in Tainan. I lived in this city for 3.5 years, and it seems this historical and cultural site has received quite a few upgrades. They now have the Fort Zeelandia museum that introduces the fascinating history of Tainan in the 16th century, including Dutch trade as well as the eventual Ming dynasty campaign of Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) against Dutch forces that lasted 9 months. The tour was guide very detailed about the walls which have been preserved, with a history of over 500 years. Some Dutch cannons have been maintained, and the tower was actually built in the 1900s. Excellent place to take students who have a good understanding of Chinese. If you can, hire an English speaking tour guide to learn about this amazing cultural site!

Cool historical place to check out. Lots of history that they tried to preserve. Walking distance to the Anping tree house as well and the anping old street is also busy with many shops and good eats and drinks.

It's a 17-century historical fort built on a peninsula by the Dutch East India Company. Anping Old Fort 安平古堡 is now a museum. The structure along with the trees have amazingly stood the test of time. Definitely worth coming here today! Cost of entry was a measly NT$50.

Beautiful old through decades from Chinese dynasty, the Dutch, the Spanish, and even the Japanese. Many renovations were made and some were purposely removed to be rebuild into the way they wanted/needed back then. Unfortunately, one of the building was closed due to a change of exhibits. But the one on the top and all around outdoor area are still opened. There are pictures, paragraphs to explain the history, a lookout, a souvenir store, cannons replicas, and other stores in there. There's a restroom as well on the side. It's my second time there and can't get bored.

One of the historical landmark, very spacious and a lot walking required to explore this spot, could be very hot during summer day times.

Maybe because I'm a history buff so I have a slight bias towards historical monuments and the like, but I have to say, the Anping Old Fort was one of the coolest parts of my tour of Taiwan. Taiwan is an island where over the centuries, many cultures mixed and interacted, with the Dutch being one of them. This fort is a great example of such an interaction. The fort is beautifully preserved and gives you a chance to look back in time and experience how things were back then. Being that this is one of the highest points in the city of Tainan, you really have a fantastic view of everything going on around you. You can see the many cannons that surround the fort, defending it from past aggressors. You can feel the thick fort walls that would have defended the occupants from a ground assault. As you walk around and look, you can't help but feel how cool history is. So, if you are in the area, be sure to drop by and check this place out. Maybe it just might help you love history a little more

One of the main attractions at the Anping area and it's a nice place to walk around, especially when the weather is nice. The view from the top is great, but don't expect too much from the Fort itself. If you don't know much about it, read up on it before going. I didn't see much English explanation and the history of the place sounds amazing. There's plenty of street parking if you go on the weekdays, but I heard the weekend is a nightmare since there is only one street in and one street out.
