The 28 Best Hotels in Buenos Aires for Foodies, Tango Enthusiasts, and Architecture Lovers | Condé Nast Traveler

"Sleek, modern interiors are cleverly tucked behind historic San Telmo architecture just steps from Plaza Dorrego, putting you in Buenos Aires’s oldest, most atmospheric neighborhood of cobblestones, antique shops, Sunday markets, and tango in the streets. While the exterior respects the colonial character, the interiors deliver contemporary comfort—an honest approach instead of faking historic charm. The 50 rooms vary in size and configuration but share premium bedding, laptop-friendly workspaces, and strong Wi‑Fi. It’s ideal if you want San Telmo’s bohemian authenticity with reliable service and the consistency of a chain hotel." - Celeste Moure

"Tango is as essential to Buenos Aires as pizza is to Naples, so the Anselmo Hotel is a perfect fit for the city, with its location in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood—known for spontaneous street dancing—in a 1906 mansion once belonging to tango composer Anselmo Asiento. The hotel is perched on Plaza Dorrego, a lively public space surrounded by cafes and shops which especially gets going on Sunday, when the San Telmo antique fair and flea market spills into the street, attracting shoppers, musicians, and revelers. Clean-lined, modern furniture and black-and-white photographs of Buenos Aires compliment the building’s original wooden shutters and wrought-iron balconies. Sip a glass of Malbec in the cozy wood interior of the Acacia bar and restaurant, or take it outside into the calm inner courtyard. A small gym is available if you haven’t gotten in enough steps wandering the neighborhood’s cobblestone streets or tango dancing the night away."

A boutique, Hilton property, in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood. The hotel is well located in a square near restaurants and shops. The hotel is very modern with a slight industrial feel. The rooms are smaller, but the space is used efficiently. It has a gym and small pool on the roof top. The views are amazing! The morning breakfast was great. They had a nice assortment of pastries, fruits and prepared foods. Highly recommend the hotel.

The Anselmo Hotel is a charming boutique property located in the heart of San Telmo’s old town in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The customer service is exceptional—every interaction with the front desk, security, restaurant staff, and housekeeping was warm and professional. After spending 15 days there, the staff truly began to feel like family.||I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for outstanding service and a location that’s within easy walking distance of everything—great restaurants, shopping, and many of the area’s must-see sights. A wonderful place to stay. The area is very safe. ||I want to recognize Laura, Veronica, Lorena, Lejuan, Jeronimo, Alberto, Alejandro, Omar, and all the others I may have forgotten to mention. ||Thank you for your kindness and exceptional service.

This hotel lives up to it's description of a small boutique hotel. The level of service received was exceptional, especially by two members of the front desk staff (Lujan and Jeronimo)! We were welcomed by Lujan who could not have been more welcoming and efficient, we delighted in her greeting us every day as we were coming or going from the hotel. Another example of incredible service was from Jeronimo, we'd always see him working at the desk, he always had a magnificent smile and never failed to greet us. As we were leaving the hotel, there was a problem with the airport taxi service that we had booked and we were near the door waiting for almost two hours. Jeronimo must have seen us, came out and offered assistance. His care and attention was VERY much appreciated. And the hospitality we saw from Jeronimo and Lujan was not just customer service, it was sincere and real care by two very professionals! ||The hotel itself is stunning, all rooms surrounding a courtyard. It's a great place to be outside to dine or have breakfast, or simply to sit and relax. The rooms are very comfortably furnished, contemporary, and the bedding was extremely comfortable.||We had several very hot days (30 degrees C / 90 degrees F) and the air conditioning in the room worked perfectly, we were consistently very comfortable. Also water temperature and pressure in the shower was ideal. Maid service and cleaning was top notch, zero concerns.||The location of the hotel is excellent! There are multiple excellent restaurants in a very easy walking distance as well as many shops. If you need bus or a sightseeing bus, it's only a block walk away. San Telmo is a fun area to stay in, and this hotel is centrally located.||I give the hotel a 5-star rating, and professionals like Lujan and Jeronimo would make me give it 6-stars if I could !! I highly recommend this hotel, you'll feel like you're staying with friends!

Lovely hotel located in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires, a lively area with great variety of restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is tucked away at the corner of a square, where you can watch couples dancing the Argentinian tango.|Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable with a great bathroom, complete with walk in shower.|The hotel has a roof top pool with views across the square below (the pool wasn’t open when we stayed).|Breakfast is buffet style, with a good selection hot and cold options, plenty of fruit and pastries.|Staff on reception were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.|We would definitely stay there again.

We had a lovely three days at the Anselmo in San Telmo on the Plaza Dorrego in Buenos Aires. We had the unique room overlooking the Plaza and enjoyed being able to people watch and see the dancers on the plaza. The staff was great. We enjoyed the breakfast. We especially appreciated the person who ran the breakfast buffet and afternoon tea, Laura. Laura was helpful and kind. She gave me ice to tend to a bruised leg (bumped into a concrete bench I didn't see in time) and checked on me every day. We also ate in the bar/restaurant one night and enjoyed the atmosphere and all the kind staff there. The open patio below the entrance was also a place to rest and relax between forays into the great shopping around the hotel as well as the roof top pool/lounge which had a great view. Highly recommended!

Google
Very quiet very comfortable hotel. Excellent service. Very nice modest breakfast buffet. The hotel is made to have a rustic look, but the building is only 10 years old. Very nice patio area that is indoors but outdoors. There is a rooftop pool and small gym workout facility. The weight machine could have a few more accessories. The hotel is located in the heart of Plaza, Drego and Santoma with hundreds of activities footsteps away. overall an excellent stay.

Google
We stayed at the Anselmo Hotel in Buenos Aires and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the hotel is very pretty, quite recent, and has a stylish, modern design. The location is excellent, perfect for exploring the city on foot, with plenty to see and do just a short walk away. Breakfast was also quite good, with enough variety to start the day pleasantly. However, the main downside was the lack of sound insulation in the rooms. We could constantly hear noise coming from the bar and restaurant area, and the music played until around 2:30 AM, which made it very difficult to sleep. On top of that, noise from the corridors and even the toilets flushing in other rooms was clearly audible. It’s a beautiful hotel in a great area, but the poor soundproofing really affected the comfort of our stay. If you’re a light sleeper, this might not be the best option.

Google
Very pleased with this hotel, the front desk staff was very helpful and welcoming! It's a small boutique hotel (50 rooms) and very charming. With a rooftop pool and an herb garden for their restaurant, no detail overlooked. All rooms overlook a courtyard where you can have your breakfast or just relax. Located at heart of the fun and historic San Telmo neighborhood.

Yelp
Cute hotel right on the square. Great for walking & exploring. Clean with helpful professional friendly staff who were proficient in English. There were 3 of us sharing room, so one had the pull out/cot bed which turned out to be surprisingly comfortable. Room spacious. Would stay again if in area. Be aware that on Sundays the surrounding streets are closed for flea market/antiques/whatever booths that are great fun -- but a taxi or car can NOT get to the hotel entrance. Ours dropped us off about 2 blocks away (with good instructions) -- the street is fairly level and we didn't have difficulty with luggage but if you had a lot of bags it might be difficult. On non-Sunday days, they can drop off/pick up right at front door.

Yelp
Do not book this hotel if you are attempting to use your Hilton benefits or earn points via your Hilton Amex. I stayed here 7 months ago and I am still dealing with billing errors and duplicate charges and getting a response from anyone at the hotel is impossible. I booked my stay on Hilton.com. When I checked out, they charged my Hilton Amex. When I got home a couple weeks later and checked my account, the charge was showing Booking.com. Because of this, I didn't earn my bonus Hilton points or the quarterly credit. Thus began a 2 month dispute between Hilton and Amex where Amex said I didn't book directly with Hilton and Hilton said Amex was wrong. It finally was resolved to get my points, but I never received my quarterly credit. I think the hotel was doing some shady billing practices by charging via Booking.com because I only book direct. 5 months later, the hotel emails me stating that my charge was rejected so they billed me again. My original charge is still on my statement and I paid it off months ago. So I had to open a dispute with Amex showing the emails the hotel sent me and the proof that I paid them months earlier to get my money back. I have no idea what is going on with their billing and accounting, but it seems shady at best and a scam at worst. The hotel was fine actually and would've had a pretty good rating, but dealing with billing for 7 months is unacceptable and not worth doing business with them.

Yelp
We stayed here at the start of our Argentina trip. Very well situated location and we enjoyed exploring the neighborhood. It's a nice looking design hotel of sorts but the rooms were not very comfortable. We tried to get our rooms changed because it was way too hot in our room but were told that no other rooms were available.

Yelp
The place was pretty clean. Beautiful ambiance. The breakfast selection was just okay. The rooms are pretty small. Not sure if it's a cultural thing, but no fans in the bathroom. I felt like the concierge/front desk could have been a little more helpful. They were remodeling the gym when we got there, so that woulda been nice to know ahead of time as we probably wouldn't have stayed there. The location was nice though. Some tango and live bands each night for entertainment. Do NOT eat at the place right next door. Very expensive and food quality was very poor. Not sure the name of it but 1075 was the address. They even snuck in a silver wear charge. Never ended up going to the bar at the bottom level of the hotel, but it seemed like a cool area. I'd probably see what else is available in the area first, but I wouldn't be opposed to staying at the Anselmo again.

Yelp
Gayle and I needed a place to stay between our arrival in Buenos Aires and travelling to Trelew early the next morning. I'm a Hilton Hhonors member and booked the Hotel Anselmo instead of the big Corporate Hilton located in Puerto Madero. I'm glad I did. The only disappointment is that the Plaza Dorrego (where the Hotel is located) was under refurbishment. Otherwise, this place was great. The San Telmo neighborhood location opened up lots of antique walking experiences, with Hotel staff being very good at providing shopping, restaurant, or any other recommendations we wanted. One big bonus is that we had to leave for the airport at 3:30 AM. At 3 AM, they had coffee and pastries waiting for us. I thought that the refurbishment of this historical space was impressive. Both Gayle and I enjoyed the Lobby, the wine bar/cafe area, and our rooms. WiFi was excellent, as was the shower and the comfort of our bed. Maybe I should say that another disappointment was having to leave too early, and not having the opportunity to linger longer.

Yelp
Located right in the middle of San Telmo, it's the perfect location for the Sunday market. That's the huge market they have with tons of crafts, knick knacks, and all sorts of random stuff. Some stuff can be good souvenir items. Others, not so much. They also have some food booths as well if you're adventurous. If not, there were many other eateries around the hotel. They put us in a room where the AC didn't work. Although they were able to give us a room with a working AC later, I was wondering why they put us in the room to begin with knowing that the AC on the first floor wasn't working. Hm... strange. Maybe they thought we wouldn't use it? Idk...

Yelp
Everything about this hotel was exceptional, from the stay, comfort of the room, staff, breakfast, I left more than happy with it all. Front desk does speak English but are more than happy to let you practice your Spanish if you want. It's in a busy square of San Telmo, with daily tango lessons for you to join or tango shows to watch. The rooms themselves don't offer much of a view, but that's ok as Buenos Aires is pretty large and spread out so not sure what the "money shot" hotel view woulda been anyways. You're better off staying in a central area. Very easy walk to area steakhouses and Casa Rosada. I did walk to Recoleta Cemetery as well, and it's doable but took an hour. They will call you a taxi if you request it. Would def stay here again if I'm back, and make sure you drink their fresh juices in the lobby!

Yelp
I want to start by saying that my experience at this hotel was quite exquisite. It's an adorable boutique hotel in the middle of the historic section of Buenos Aires. I can't even find the words to describe the amazing staff that provided a superior level of service to me and my travel companion. Yasmin, Martin, & Juan , each individually provided recommendations on places to eat, places to visit, and were a true delight to speak with on a daily basis. These three people were clear factors in making our stay as first class and appreciated as it was. For anyone reading this review I encourage you to visit this hotel and meet these incredible people who are the front face of this fabulous hotel.

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights on our way to Patagonia. The hotel is right on a plaza that had nearly 24/7 tango dancers. There is a bar/restaurant that serves coffee and cocktails in the plaza so you can have a relaxing drink and watch the dancers - great fun. The hotel was clean; comfortable and the staff was extremely helpful with directions, changing money and arranging for transportation when needed. Loved the place.

Yelp
This is a great value hotel part of CURIO collection from Hilton. If anything location could be the not so great but a few blocks away from new area in Puerto Madero. Restaurant breakfast buffet and wine bar lounge are great for a quick start. I like the design and service was great. Room is good size for 1-2 people. On the small side but this is not a resort to keep you in the hotel room most hours. Bed is good size and so is shower restroom. Maybe some vanity shelf could help more space. I used the closet shelf. Nice size tv and gym is very basic. Likely all you could need but maybe a new design would be welcomed. The ambiance decor of the whole hotel is great. And the staff is A+. Close by are quick mart at gas station and plenty of restaurants and Starbucks local coffee shops and more in San telmo and in Puerto Madero. Rooms are quiet and great blackout curtains. Hest and ac is flawless. This is a newer hotel so still settling a bit. The center patio atrium is amazing for cold beer or wine or coffee tea. Few pieces I'd like hotel to check on is getting HD channels, LED is already there. Bring a pro to design gym better. Above all 5 stars are deserved for value, all you get for a great price and walking distance 3 blocks from amazing neighborhood.

Yelp
My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at this modern, clean and comfortable hotel in the heart of San Telmo, a fun quirky artistic neighborhood that is well situated in Bueno Aires. The hotel is right on quaint Plaza Dorrego where free tango happens daily and where the famous Sunday antique market is based (don't miss that - it stretches for almost a mile down the street from the square!) There are many antique stores and boutiques in this area - as well as lots of street art and restaurants. It's also a short walk to the Puerto Madero, the area by the canal, which is basically an old industrial port that has been renovated into a fancy area with modern high end hotels, restaurants and paths along the canal. The hotel staff were INCREDIBLY helpful, and always courteous and easy to talk to. They went out of their way to accommodate our every need. The breakfasts (which were free due to our Hilton Gold status) were delicious with wonderful options including some of the best cheese I've had in a long time. The fruit was always incredible as well - and always hot items to choose from. Our room was one of the bigger corner rooms and was beautifully designed, great decor - and incredibly spacious. It was easy to sleep well there - very quiet and good blackout curtains. Our bed was very comfortable and the showers were hot. What more can you ask for? The hallways even smelled good (seriously it smelled faintly like a sophisticated men's cologne - very subtle, not overpowering at all). One of the best things about staying here was the restaurant/wine bar. This is a new hotel, and it seemed like people weren't yet fully aware of the absolutely delicious, gourmet offerings provided by talented Chef Dave Soady, who is an American expat from Washington DC. This is a hidden gem that needs to be discovered. The menu was INCREDIBLE, as were the food presentation and flavors. We were so impressed that we ate there three times during our one week stay - and we are the types who never eat in the same restaurant twice while traveling because we want to try as many different things as we can. The filet mignon was to die for, cooked to perfection and served with roasted brussel sprouts and a pumpkin puree that cannot easily be described. Delicious. We also tried the fabulous goat cheese and arugula pizza with squash sauce and tomato confit.... Wow. And then there was the warm brie cheese encrusted in polenta and served with honey and lavender drizzled on top. Had to have that appetizer twice. The other appetizer we tried, the warm braised endive salad with blue cheese and candied hazelnuts, was equally succulent. And my husband just about died when he tasted the banana tahini soup. He's still raving about that one! And of course they offer an excellent selection of wines, seeing that this is a wine bar. Our meals here easily rivaled top dining experiences that we've had in Paris, New York and London. Chef Soady is a true culinary artist. DO NOT MISS THIS RESTAURANT. Overall a great place to stay - we used points so can't comment on the cost, but I'm sure whatever the price is, this hotel is great value.

Yelp
We went here during our new year vacation. Pros * Bang next to Plaza Dorrego which is an amazing location in San Telmo. Tango happens right at your doorstep on Sundays, and it is always bustling outside * Hilton has kept the place really neat. Nice lobby, nice staff who will help you get a taxi, help with language etc.. Most of the staff is english speaking. * The restaurant downstairs is really nice too ! They had some great wine and empanadas. Cons * Room size is small. This is something that might bother people if you are looking to stay in the room for a longer time. We were mostly out so we did not care. * There are not many other amenities here, like a pool etc.. The gym is also very very basic.

Yelp
Perfect location right on Dorrego Square. We had an interior facing room overlooking the courtyard which was reasonably quiet. Staff were incredibly helpful, pleasant and accommodating. Rooms were modern, clean but bijou! On the basis that you are unlikely to spend any time in them with BA at your feet, that probably doesn't matter! The only negative was the low quality of the breakfast. Some of the fruit was old (wizened and boarding on rotten) and had obviously been sitting there a long time. The arugula salad was totally wilted. I'm not quite sure why some of the food was even laid out for guests it was in such poor shape. We gave up on the breakfast after heading down there twice and having to reject it and went to Coffee Town in San Telmo Market instead! For a boutique hotel owned by Hilton this is unacceptable but overall we would highly recommend the hotel for its location, friendliness of staff and cleanliness.

Yelp
We did not have a good experience. The staff at the front desk Martín and Yasmin was incredible, they are both multi-lingual and were always pleasant when we came across them. The hotel was a great hotel in a prime location. However the maintenance dept never came to fix our AC we told them this 2 times from the room and at the desk when we left to dinner. When we came back it was 2 AM and we had to pack up and move rooms because no one stopped by to fix it. The restaurant staff can use some attitude tuning, they were slow and inattentive we waited 40 mins to be served and when we sat we literally did the waitress job by going into the restaurant and grabbing our own spoon, fork, and knife we had to ask for water 2x before we got it and our mixed drinks well they forgot those. Def. wouldn't stay again, however i was able to book at the Hilton Buenos Aires and they were magnificent 5* service from EVERY STAFF!!

Yelp
Anselmo is right in the middle of a busy plaza so you're in close proximity to most things in the city. It is part of the Hilton chain, and is a bit small for a Hilton you would expect in such a large city. However, don't let the size fool you. They hotel is absolutely stunning. The staff is very helpful and do a great job with their recommendations. The found us the most amazing Tango show (Gala Tango - if you're interested) and did a great job coordinating the run. The restaurant is downstairs and they do also have a great breakfast/brunch. All in all, great location and great staff - highly recommend it!

Oliver S.

Yelp
I'll give this hotel four stars mainly for it's service and location. The hotel is done in a stylishly puritan way. The problem I have with it is that it already looks a bit worn. Details in our room weren't that nice, and the AC was barely working. Overall it looks nice, but do expect the feeling and smell of wood that got moist one too many times. The location is great for discovering the area of course, however, be aware at night if you're an obvious tourist. For first time visitors who plan to stay more than one night I'd recommend other parts of the city to stay in. Where the hotel excelled was the staff. Very friendly and with good recommendations (my wife is local and can tell - yes, you'll be sent to tourist highlights if you ask for it, but there are other recommendations available too). Overall, happy to have staid here!

Kurt N.

Yelp
It's always difficult to tell whether a selection is of quality and in a good location. We were pleased with the Anselmo being on the Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo. The nightly tango dancing demonstrations were a treat. Good restaurants within walking distance and plenty of local 'flavor'. The hotel was comfortable and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
A- grade for our stay. Great friendly staff! Wonderful location! The free breakfast was yummy, we were told it was free for us because we were Hilton Honors Members, but I'm not sure if this is so? As the website I booked on said "free" in general. But regardless, very enjoyable hotel. Clean, modern, and elegant. Two downsides: Many intl flights arrive into EZE early in the morning. Wr arrived around 9am exhausted and had to wait till 2pm for a room. It was annoying, but can't get too upset over something that could (and does) happen at many hotels. Second downfall: there was a door in our room that led directly into the room next door. The woman staying in 201 was extremely loud (playing loud music and having sex with her male companion around 4am...) We could hear everything and it was ridiculous. Cant fully blame the hotel for this... but the singular door separating the two rooms is a downfall. Something should be done about this... or at least room 202 avoided. Unsure if the other rooms are the same as we were a corner room. Overall, good stay! IF you do come to Buenos Aires, I recommend taking a taxi downtown. Its by far the fastest and only cost $40 and you can pay USD ahead of time.

Andrea Z.

Yelp
Great little boutique hotel smack in the middle of the older part of Buenos Aires, San Telmo. This is a brand new modern feeling hotel in a very historic part of town so the juxtaposition of a new hotel with old feel oddly enough works well. The rooms are quite small but do the job. No real perks to the hotel, so don't expect lotions, spas, pools, gym etc. They say they have a gym but it's a sad room with 2 machines. This no frills hotel aside from having a great location has really really great front desk staff. Flavio and Camila were the best, super attentive, friendly and professional. They helped us out a bunch with all our requests and questions. Cleaning staff wasn't overly friendly but wait staff at the wine bar and during breakfast were great! All in all a nice little gem whose young and friendly staff really make it shine.
