What a surprising spot in the Dorsoduro area! Tiny storefront right on the canal, but the back patio is humongous! It could probably seat 200. The patio is completely covered by arching foliage, and the place seems magically calm after the hustle and bustle that is Venice. This place would be heavenly on a hot summer day.
We were given an Italian menu, and I didn't ask for an English one so not sure if they have it. The waitress spoke very good English, so it was no trouble finding out what the more unusual items on the menu were. We went for an all-seafood meal, which consisted of sour sardines and mixed seafood platter as appetizers, and grilled scampi and filleted seabass as mains.
We tried to order pannacotta and affogato as desserts, which turned out to be a bit of a hassle. First we were told the pannacotta was not available. Then we were told that they will try making it for us but it won't be firm. Then it was brought to the table in a cup full of pannacotta soup, at which point we had to decide whether to keep it or not. In theory I appreciated the efforts to find a pannacotta for me when none was available, but all the backwards and forwards and then being under pressure either rejecting or accepting the food with two waiters staring at me, one having just gone out of his way to procure pannacotta out of thin air, made me feel a bit uncomfortable. We weren't even too keen on the damn pudding. I would've been perfectly happy with a simply 'sorry, it's not available right now'.
We visited during a very quiet time (Monday lunch), so we had not one, but two waiters all to ourselves and we were well looked after. The lunch ended up on the pricier side totaling at EUR108 for two people, which I found a bit steep. All in all, nice restaurant if you are in the Dorsoduro district.
