On the Grid : Antique Market

"There's a is a mix of antiques and interesting furniture that you won’t find at Ikea. If you’re not an antique collector though, you might find it hard to tell the difference between a priceless original and a dusty lamp. That being said, it’s a fun place to visit on a Saturday morning with a coffee in hand. The space is impressive and with two storeys of goods, you won’t run out of things to lust over." - WoodType

Really large antique shop just off commercial drive. Lots of larger pieces of furniture(mirrors, tables, cabinets, etc..) with some unique pieces thrown in. A literal ton of iron gates. So many chandeliers and light fixtures. And ducks, so many ducking ducks! Big main floor with a mezzanine with more stuff. Well laid out, and helpful staff.

There is nothing like this place in the vancouver area. Massive selection of eclectic furniture and lighting from various parts of the world. Harry the owner, a straight shooter, literally travels around the world filling containers of interesting furniture and ships it back for his store. Incredible place.

This place has many old furniture items but the prices are for the real collectors. Certainly, there are many small items save the Coke tin box, the retro door handles and the bells. All of the items are metal-made and are heavy.

Amazing unique pieces with an incredible sale on right now. We have purchased items here before and are always happy with everything.

My partner and I only stopped by to have a quick look around, but now we became fans. They have a really cool selection of not so standard things. When we were there they had a huge sale so prices were very reasonable. Can't comment on the normal prices. We bought a dining table and a dresser and had it delivered the week later. Delivery was perfectly easy, they were on time, brought up the things and assembled the table for a very reasonable price. We'll actually go back this week to look for more things.

Some awesome pieces of furniture in this place - a really great spot if you’re looking to add some real character to your place. It’s not cheap but even just visiting to view the stock is very worthwhile.

Can't say enough about how incredible this place is! Not only did they give us an amazing deal on a beautiful dining table and six chairs but they helped us later when we accidentally made a heat stain on the table. They lent us a can of repair spray (free of charge!) and gave us several alternate solutions to the problem, including buying back the table and giving us a discount on a new one. We're are happy to say the table got fixed and we're so lucky to have Antique Market's customer care and attention. It's rare these days but you will be well taken care of here.

This place is a secret treasure trove so packed it will make your head spin. And they have a 50% sale on until the end of October!

Yelp
Wow!!! Amazing selection of Asian antiques and antique replicas. Hugh warehouse space. They are into industrial and cast iron furniture too. Cool group of people working there. They offer pick up or delivery and can hold/store items too. Many many many pieces of stained glass

Yelp
I've been shopping with Harry for 5+ years and absolutely love his products. Every time I visit the store I get ideas for how I'd like to re-do my space, so it's no surprise that I've got a lot of wonderful items from there now. And the customer service is great - I have a 'reclaimed wood' coffee table that has suffered a bit of damage over the years. Harry offered to give me some stain to refinish it. Very nice.

Yelp
I did purchase furniture here because I really wanted some industrial things, and it's hard to find in this city, but I do recall the owner telling me it was reproduction furniture. I assumed he just meant the industrial stuff, as much of the other pieces in the store look antique, but have since found companies on Alibaba that wholesale the same 'antique' chinese/mongolian furniture, or at least shockingly similar furniture. When you compare the images just on the antiques market website of two Chinese wardrobes in different colours, it's pretty clear that they are finished with the same distressing techniques in the same areas of each piece. That said, the owner did tell me directly that the industrial furniture was reproduction, so it seems he is honest about it - you just have to ask. It is kind of sneaky though, and I can see why some people have been upset by it. I will say the industrial furniture i bought is VERY solid and well made. The company from India that makes them seems to know what they're doing and have been in business for 10 years. Much of the furniture is modeled after antique french industrial furniture. They have some really awesome things that can add some funkiness to your home but it is rather annoyingly misleading when their name is "Antiques Market". I suppose they can get away with it because the look they're going for is antique, and some of the stuff does seem to be genuinely old. There should be notes on the reproductions so you know what you're buying. Prices are pretty steep, but they seem to have large sales pretty regularly which make it more reasonable, and the quality of the furniture does seem quite high, including the distressing - very convincing and artfully done for the most part.

Yelp
Omg omg omg ... *and... repeat* I've only ever seen a handful of warehouses in my whole life as amazing as this Vancouver Antique Market. Visiting there made me wish I had a large home to fill, (-and a wagon full of money to spend.) We lusted after the tables made from reclaimed, antique wood, distressed and perfectly finished and then set onto antique iron hardware. You can actually crank these tables up or down, some of the pieces you can extend for guests. I want, I want, I want!! If you are lucky enough to shop here, be sure and bring some really strong friends with your or a fork lift, because this aint Ikea! Real furniture, heavy and solid. Also lighting like you see in the movies. Chandeliers and classic office lamps. Film studios must love this place. I arrived with an antique offering of my own to sell and we had a lengthy, enjoyable conversation with Jim. I get this place. I really get it. Now what did I do with that lottery ticket....?

Yelp
The owner of the shop is a total chiseler. The "garden gates" he sells are actually discarded window grates from which ever third world country is demolishing a building. He sells them as genuine Egyptian craftsmanship for $300+. Total bullshit.

Yelp
Website suggests its all antiques...went there and could not find any antiques. Thought we were going to get a deal because of a big 60% off sale but now realize they always have 'big sales' on and even the sale price items are exorbitant. Especially when you consider that these are third world knock offs of questionable quality.

Yelp
What a rip-off. You would have to be a total dumb-ass to think that these uber expensive nock-offs were the real thing. Everything is marked as 100-150 years old. Funny thing is.... there is 10 of each "antique". I did not know that antiques were mass produced a hundred years ago. All with the same hardware. Really? One "Chinese antique" was available in 3 different colors from 3 different decades and all with the same exact hardware and there was at least six of them. Somewhere in China there is an "antique" sweatshop and they are laughing at the idiots that are buying these replicas. They even have "antique" well buckets by the hundreds...weird.... Ask the lovely sales men and every piece is their favorite. They do have some real antiques and those are easy to spot because they have a tag that reads "Special" and are not included in the sale. BEWARE of the RIP-OFF. if you are gonna scam people, try to hide it a little better....

Yelp
I've been in here a few times to get some furniture inspiration. My problem is that I fall in love with something, take measurements when I get home and get sad. My place is small, therefore, at first glance I want to adopt these pieces and thinking that it will fit perfectly in my home. Of course the measuring tape says otherwise. This place has the best assortment of piece in the city. I did pick up a small treasure chest that I use to store some of my comics. Prices are competitive but reasonable. Customer service was good. Buyer beware, not everything is antique. I did come in here with someone who specializes in antiques who was checking out stuff with me.

Yelp
I'm done with this place! They use to sell a variety of "real" antiques (I bought a few "real" antiques a few years back and am happy with my purchases). Recently they stopped bringing in "real" pieces and are now flogging reclaimed Chinese poorly made furniture. The few (and I mean few) "real" antique pieces remaining to be sold in the store are not included in the recent 62% sale off everything price - apparently they are a "special" price. And beware of "real" antique items that don't have a price tag attached, Disgruntled - I won't waste my time going back to that store.

Yelp
Had a very positive experience at the Vancouver Antique Market today. It was my first time there. Someone referred me there as we just got a place and are furnishing it from the bottom up. She told me they had good prices. I looked at their website and it was a bit outdated, so I put off going for a week. But when I finally went I am a customer for life. Kevin the store representative was very knowledgeable and very willing to go the extra mile to get us the information that we needed to make our purchases. I know these are not genuine antiques. OBVIOUSLY! Genuine antiques sell for tens of thousands of dollars. Anyone who is upset that the market is not selling real antiques should study architecture and design terminology. I was shopping for great furniture of good quality at unbeatable prices, and that is what I found. Harry, the politically-correct owner, was hands-on involved in the sale with social graces and immaculate manners, quite mild tempered and gentle in disposition. Aside from the pleasant experience the sheer volume of antiques and home furnishings is incredible. And the prices are literally unbeatable. Harry, we will be back! DM me when the industrial bookshelves come in and the gun-metal media cabinet too. Loved the blue leather armchairs that I bought today and they will go very well in my new home. Saw chairs just like this in Los Angeles for $1200 USD. I don't need genuine antiques in my home. I can't afford them either. But the Vancouver Antique Market is a great place to find hundreds of styles at about 50% - 75% the industry market. I don't work here, just a customer. I am posting this so potential shoppers know to not judge the market from the website. Go in and see it for yourself. Entrance is on Franklin Street through the small red doors.
