This review aims to provide a frank assessment of Antojitos del callejón, a recently visited establishment. While the following observations may appear critical, they are intended to guide potential diners in making informed decisions.
The overall experience at [Antojitos del callejon] fell short of expectations. Service was sluggish, with a significant delay of 35 minutes preceding the arrival of our appetizers. These appetizers, consisting of Alcapurrias, were unfortunately underwhelming. The plantain shells exhibited a concerning dryness, while the ground beef filling lacked flavor and displayed an incongruously high level of salinity. The overall quality fell far below what one would expect of this traditionally flavorful dish. Indeed, the Alcapurrias were so unappetizing that a significant portion remained uneaten. One is led to believe that even the local pigeons, a population known for their resilience, might hesitate to consume such fare due to its dehydrating properties.
The main courses continued the trend of disappointment. The "bistec," priced at a premium of $16, proved to be a simple ground beef dish accompanied by vegetables and rice. This uninspired presentation failed to live up to the standards of Puerto Rican cuisine, particularly considering its price point. The "chuleta" echoed the issues of dryness – in this case, the overseasoned pork mirrored the aridity of Crash Boat Beach sand. The accompaniment of a meager two tostones and a halved tomato offered little in the way of culinary redemption.
The ineptitude extended beyond the food itself. Beverages were demonstrably low-quality. The apparent practice of adding copious amounts of ice to mask the use of questionable water did little to enhance the experience. The "coconut water" bordered on fraudulent, exhibiting such a diluted nature that it was indistinguishable from plain water. It is safe to say that the beverages represented a significant low point in the entire dining experience.
While the intention is not to appear overly critical, it is vital to stress that, for the exorbitant prices charged, alternative establishments offering a more satisfying experience are readily available. To avoid replicating this mistake, patronage of other restaurants is strongly recommended.
Finally, this "restaurant" preys on the ignorance of newcomers to basically swindle the incoming customers into eating this type of food. I doubt that anyone with at least two taste buds in their tongue would dare to come back to this place ever.
