I give here a 4.5. A friend booked us for 5:30 on a Saturday night. We arrived right on time and were seated within a minute or so. Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is awesome. You'd never know it was in the old Foggy Goggle location b/c it seems way larger. Decorated with much attention to detail from the artwork to the flooring, light fixtures to the large bar. Seating capacity for minimum 100 I would guess, if not 150? It's long, dark, cozy, modern with many Mexican touches. We got a table right at the front by the window. Bench on one side, high chairs on the other, which I had a bit of trouble getting into because I'm short. lol The menu is pretty extensive. I tried the Antojo margarita (2 oz), which was refreshing, served in a regular drinking glass. We were going to order chips & salsa, but you get them as the pre-meal freebie anyway! Homemade tortilla chips with a pico de gallo, salsa verde and salsa tatemada. Plus four squeeze bottles of other sauces on the table. All delicious! We each still ordered individual appetizers. The guac ($13) was good, a large portion where I took half to go for the next day, as I still had more food on the way. And even what was leftover the next day was filling. The green chicken enchiladas were very good with lots of flavor. This is still on the appetizer menu although it's big enough to count as an entrée for myself. ($13 salsa verde, melted cheese, crema, queso fresco, onion, chilantro). My friend started with the Chicharron de Ribeye ($16 crispy beef ribeye, guacamole, roasted jalapenos, green onions, salsa fresca). I tasted one and found it delicious, although we both found the beef to be a bit fatty and had a few pieces we picked off. The flavor was great. His entrée was the Al Pastor Taco Trio ($12 spit-roasted marinated pork, grilled pineapple, onion, cilantro) and these were delicious as well. Despite both of our guts being quite expanded, we were so happy with the meal that we just had to try a dessert so split an order of Churros. Luckily, there are only three relatively small ones, so it wasn't hard to get them down. Served with a chocolate sauce and a caramel sauce? Both deeelicious and not too sweet. Overall, we were both very happy with this experience and already discussed making the next reservation ASAP.
2nd visit: lunch on a sunny Monday in March. The place was mostly empty, albeit a social media video being filmed at one of the corner tables. Friendly service again. This time I tried a big salad off their lunch menu (separate from the main menu) and I can't find it online, but it had tortilla strips, cactus, cilantro, pulled spicy chicken, queso fresca?, peppers, tomato? It was quite good and definitely filling enough for lunch, especially when you consider that they still provide the free chips & and salsa trio at lunch, so you fill up easily. My friend had two beef tongue tacos with side of Sopa de Lima (Yucatan style lime soup, shredded chicken, avocado, tortilla) and both he said were delicious and satisfying. I took a sip of the soup and highly agree.
Subsequent visits: The crispy cauliflower taco ($12) was excellent - with the most unique part being the dark blue soft tortilla which reminded me of denim. lol Delicious and a good size. Side of rice & beans were good as well. The Mushrooms with Epazote Tacos ($14 roasted mushrooms, guac, queso cotija) were excellent. The Huevos con Chorizo Torta (which means sandwich, for $12, two scrambled eggs, red chorizo, queso cotija, lettuce, onion) was quite large and filling, a teensy bit on the dry side, but still good, and you can easily throw a hot sauce or two on it. The Tinga de Pollo taco trio ($13 adobo-chipotle chicken, refried beans, crema, cilantro, queso fresco) was delicious, just a kick of spice, but nothing the weakest person couldn't handle.
LOVE the brunch - arrived right at 11:30 opening time on a sunny, chilly Sunday in May and maybe about 8 tables got taken right away, but it didn't seem to get busier than that in the next hour or so. I tried the Huevos Rancheros ($13 blue corn tortillas, refried beans, sunny side eggs, salsa tatemada, guac, spicy roaste potatoes). I always love this dish everywhere I eat, but it was extra flavorful here and too filling for me to finish. The tortillas were a bit hard to cut with a knife this time would be my only complaint/hard to eat. My friend had the Huevos Benedictinos and raved about it. The Patio Spritz cocktail ($13 gin, aperol, honey, lemon juice, orange blend, topped with cava) was the perfect drink, no other words.
I can't wait to try most other stuff on this menu, whether it be day or night.
