Yelp
The most unique restaurant in the Unique Dining Capital of Texas. I've never been to SA, but all the signs point to authentic: the menu is full of things I've never seen before, even though I've traveled quite a bit, and each time I've been there either Africans are eating there or picking something up. Also, unlike anything we Texans are used to, they run out of food. Everything is made from scratch, like cafes in much of the rest of the world, so you need to get there early or call to reserve if you're in the mood for something in particular.
Personally, I enjoy the adventure of having to try something new. So far, I've enjoyed everything. The meatballs with tomato and onion are very good for lunch with a side, or surprisingly well paired rolled inside the thick crepes they call pancakes. The mince meat appears to be the SA version of picadillo. It's also very good for lunch with a side, or in a fried bun, which they make fresh every morning.
That's the other thing that's really surprising about this place, it's also a bakery. When I traveled to Europe and New Zealand, I always enjoyed the pastries filled with meat. This place scratches that itch if you're looking for that kind of thing stateside.
The number of unique, high quality, freshly made items is a little overwhelming. I tend to eat too much when I go. Last time I ordered a meal, then had to try this "sandwich" they make with a homemade loaf of bread filled with curry. I could eat that several times a week for lunch. Hopefully, I'll learn to eat a reasonable amount when I visit, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. In fact, I ate breakfast and lunch there on the same day last week.
