Great place for lunch in Cedarburg! The Anvil has amazing sandwiches that I would highly recommend. Their homemade thin bread totally makes the sandwiches. We’ve sat outside a few times now during the summer, and the views are like no other, which the gorgeous river. The staff is super friendly, and the service is fast. Highly recommend the chicken club!

The staff at The Anvil is amazing—truly friendly and attentive, which we really appreciated. It had been about five years since I last ate here, and honestly, it may be another five before I return. I had high hopes for dinner, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to them. I ordered the shrimp orzo dinner. The shrimp came butterflied with the shells still on, but there was no extra dish provided for the shells, which made things a bit messy. The shrimp also wasn’t hot, which was disappointing, and the portion felt small for the price. I ended up ordering a cup of soup just to feel satisfied. My daughter had the cheese curds and said some were hollow—like the cheese had squeezed out during frying. I love supporting our Cedarburg spots, but for me, the food here was just okay. It filled the gap of not making dinner, but that’s about it.

Lovely historic building right on the river. The food is great and the service is fast and friendly. They even have a small upstairs area for extra seating where you can look out over the restaurant.

Stopped in after riding bikes from Thiensville. Great spot along the river, with nice seating on the outdoor patio. Got seated right away. Our server was absolutely terrific. Super busy, but she let us know she saw us and would come back ASAP. (I always appreciate that kind of acknowledgement, thanks Beth). Ordered drinks and a couple of appetizers. They came out quick and were the right temperature. Got the Nachos and South of Cedarburg stuffed wontons. The Nachos were very good, the right amount of cheese and toppings. The wontons were not that good. Plenty of fillings, but it was kinda mushy. Would not order that again. All total, a pleasant lunch in a great location.

Went to the Anvil for a Birthday meal and I greatly enjoyed going there. The building itself is old but incredibly well kept homely in a pleasant way, cozy and very clean! The service was good and very patient especially considering I has to wait for my other company to arrive, no problems there! The food was excellent, from the shepherd's pie I got, to the duck wantons and even the mozzarella sticks, all was fantastic to me. I loved it at the Anvil, give it a go if you're in the area you won't be disappointed! Pictures are of the inside and outside of the building, the decor, the menu, and the food!

Google
Unfortunately just didn't quite hit the mark on most dishes. BBQ duck sandwich and short rib Mac and cheese were good. Burger was a frozen patty, cooked medium rare (ordered medium), and mushrooms on it were raw. Butternut squash ravioli was ok but too sweet. Anvil chicken over cooked and dry.

Visiting the city on a sunny Saturday morning and decided to get some lunch. Wonderful use of existing space and history. Our server was very polite, helpful and attentive. This place has a wonderful menu. My wife had the Short Rib Mushroom Melt with a Dill Pasta side. I had the Philadelphia Cheese Steak sandwich with fries. The sandwich was on their brick oven bread and absolutely sent the sandwich to another dimension with flavor. I would have preferred the onions and peppers cut into smaller pieces but only so they could be incorporated more into the flavor of each bite. It was still one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. The aioli was really good. Nice, smooth and rich. We will definitely be going back to try other things.

Google
Decided to try a new place and came across Anvil while shopping. Glad we did! Food was amazing (The Bellow, Cedar burger, Veggie burger, FF, and Pesto mozz sticks). Jake, our waiter, was friendly and attentive. Nothing else to say but YUM!

Yelp
Very tasty and unique food here! Beautiful building and surroundings! Great place to bring guests!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was pretty terrible. D Burger was raw (asked for Medium) Nachos were burned and basic. Pesto mozz sticks were not done. Server was great! She was really busy, but attentive. A View was gorgeous! A ****Not dog friendly. It's a patio? I don't understand why I couldn't bring my small dog to sit on my lap? **** Suggestion is... have some drinks on the patio and skip the food.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in cedarburg! They have great menu options and a lot of diverse options to pick from. In addition, they have a stone fire oven so all of the bread they use (which is also made in house) is soooo good. I got their special flatbread the last time I went and it was delicious. It also has a great atmosphere as the inside feels like an old medieval pub which I like. The staff is friendly and provided a great experience to me and my friends. Make sure to check this place out!

Yelp
A cute spot near the creek and next to the Cedar Creek Winery. Stopped here for lunch on a Thursday and we got seated right away. Pretty small on the inside. I got the burger and my boyfriend got the iron pasta. The burger was fine and I added onion rings. The pasta was good but nothing that was super impressive.

Yelp
Visited Cedarburg on a girls trip and it was her birthday so we booked the outside igloo as a treat. It was so cute was heated and you could hook up your Bluetooth for music. It is right by the river and really nice setting. There was a booking fee but they let you choose who they donate the fee to. Loved that! You get 90 minutes and the food was good and reasonably priced. Did not try the inside restaurant but the igloo was such a fun experience!

Yelp
Nostalgia brought me back to my hometown, Cedarburg. I was taken by the effort that the neolocals have put into attracting the seekers of all things eclectic. The ambiance is that of a refurbished horse, cleaned up and not unpleasant; unique? No. The menu has some cleverly named and described offerings (eg: black and tan onion rings for $6.75 and a BLTC sandwich for $13.50) so for $20.25 + tax and tip, I got a BLT and onion rings that were no better than one might expect at any corner pub at half the cost. Service was good, but not exceptional.

Yelp
The food was amazing and we had great service the workers were really kind I really appreciate it I recommend eating lunch here But no installations but still a good restaurant

Yelp
We had a fine time at the Anvil. The service was great, everyone was super friendly and attentive. the restaurant was definitely a cute vibe inside. I would have loved to sit outside on the patio if it weren't for the weather! The food was just okay. I would not recommend getting the anvil bites, they were nothing special. The pasta was decent and I would say the short rib sandwich was good. Their onion rings were the best part of the meal, definitely worth an upgrade. Overall, it was a nice place to try out, but not my first choice in town.

Thomas K.

Yelp
House salad was old with black edges and some added old cold pieces of chicken thrown on top. Appetizer of "ruben boat" was six small baked potato halves that were cold and had a few minced pieces of corned beef, Swiss cheese and sour kraut on top of each potato. Food was tasteless. Would never go back again.

Yelp
Let's talk about meals in mini cast iron skillets....Shepard's pie. The atmosphere is cozy and very inviting similar to a European pub. The food was spectacular, the Shepards pie was served in a scorching hot cast iron skillet and was absolutely amazing. It doesn't look big when it's served but it is wayyyyy more than enough for one person. Ingredients were well prepared and the flavors were extremely complex. Best value and quality for the money.

Gretchen E.

Yelp
Friendly staff and servers. However a person in our party ordered vodka pasta with an addition of shrimp. When it arrived the shells were still on the shrimp. WTheck? He never ate any of the shrimp. And part of a shell got stuck in his throat. Not a very good impression for out-of-state guests. Anvil, you can do better.
google avatar

Yelp
The sandwiches on fresh bread are incredible! I come here often and get the chicken club-amazing!

Yelp
Food is amazing, service was just ok and the ambiance is wonderful! It's a beautiful building!

Yelp
I like the space. Except the unsightly open kitchen. And the dust shelf above it (that had visible dust/crud when I was there last year and still does). The decor items on the wall could use cleaning, too. We've been here three or four times using a gift certificate, but I probably won't go back on my own dime, except maybe to sit on the patio by the river for a drink or dessert. The food has been ho-hum on every visit and the service lackluster. On the most recent visit, the waitress acknowledged we'd be sharing our order. The menu notes an additional split charge, so I expected better. The food wasn't divided (that's fine - some places do and dress it up a little - some don't - with a split charge, I expected they would, but oh well) then we had to wait for an extra bowl and spoon to divide the dish. The server didn't check back with us at all during the meal. She came by hurriedly as we were finishing, clearing a plate as she asked whether we were doing ok (the restaurant appeared to be well enough staffed and not too busy, so I'm not sure what that issue was). Our shrimp was overcooked, but well seasoned. This was all pretty typical, in my experience.

Wade A.

Yelp
We had reservations, arrived a little early so decided to have a drink at the bar while we waited. From our seats this is what we saw, THIS IS THE KITCHEN, no thanks. We walked and found a clean restaurant to eat at. Such a shame

Jen C.

Yelp
We have been here before and would say food was 'okay'. After our last experience I don't plan to go back. We each got a sandwich, I also got a cup of French onion soup. The sandwiches were made on a thick flatbread that had a smoky flavor that made it difficult to taste anything else. My husband had a cheesesteak sandwich and the few pieces of vegetables in it were raw and crunchy. The French onion soup did not come with any croutons, there was grated cheese sprinkled on top but it was not melted. We sat directly across from a half wall for the open kitchen. The staff had misc kitchen items stacked on top, looked sloppy. So disappointed - it is a really cool building in a nice location on the river.

Yelp
Chicken and burger were good. I wouldn't recommend the appetizers. The artichoke dip was more like cottage cheese. The steak kebab had no seasoning. Not sure what kind of steak they used, but it was very hard to chew. Plus it didn't have no flavor at all. I add salt and pepper and it still wasn't very tasteful. Staff was super nice !

Ron B.

Yelp
Great experience, we were out in the snow globe and it was magical. Our waiter Beth was amazing for nice and tentative. Food was amazing!! Great place would recommend
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Yum! Been here a few times and have loved everything I've had. Service is good. Staff really knows the menu items. We always have lunch here when we're in town

Yelp
Cool discovery in Cedarburg. Super small so make sure you reserve a table. Food was pretty good.
google avatar

Laurie S.

Yelp
Go here. Sit on the patio. Wonderful. I had a lobster blt. It was to die for. The bread is homemade. Incredible. Maple bourbon bacon potato soup. Really? Fantastic!!! Service was amazing
google avatar

Leah L.

Yelp
Really cool spot came recommended... We got there in the nick of time before they're busy Saturday lunch rush. Good service in the food came out immediately! I look forward to a return visit!
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
Disappointing, 2 of the meals the Philly steak and the chicken club was good, But the steak kobabs was burn most of it, my sister said it was gross the steak was way overcooked, cheese was burnt, my other sister said her burger was burnt and both had said they wanted medium. Dill burger can't taste any dill on it, nobody in the group plans on coming back.
google avatar

Chrissy S.

Yelp
Love the chicken club sandwich! Tasty, great portion and delightful flat bread. Price is decent too. Only wish they had more tables. If coming here, get a reservation; they fill up fast!
google avatar

F F.

Yelp
I had a reservation for 3. We got the smallest table, despite walking by larger ones. It went downhill from there. The building was quaint with a bar as soon as you entered. The food was marginal.
google avatar

Evan O.

Yelp
Second time here over the last several years. Service was top notch and friendly! The food was good, but not amazing. Location is great with outdoor seating along the water, but limited space indoors. Will return!
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with a friend. The food was delicious, got the chicken club and pesto mozzarella sticks - both good! I'm a fry gal and the fries were just okay, nothing special. This place is very small, so make sure to make reservations. Would not recommended for a large group of people.

Yelp
Kudos to Anvil for having one of the more artisan / creative menus around AND for actually pulling it off with deliciously crafted food. For a "Pub and Grille"located in a small town, Anvil adds a much appreciated and tasty touch to classic dishes. Short rib, duck and pasta are all . Patio seating by the river adds to the charm.

Yelp
Beautiful setting. Yummy food and great service. Hidden gem in historic Cedarburg. What a picturesque place.

Weston W.

Yelp
Service and ambiance was good except for the gum chewing host who had no multitasking skill. The food, on the other hand, was mediocre at best. Two different chicken sandwiches on Pita (no choice of bread) were dry and tasteless...presentation didn't exist. The onion rings were good. It was the third disappointing meal we have had...this was not the case a couple of years ago. Mediocrity like this is giving Cedarburg a bad name.
google avatar

Cheri B.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Drinks were nice. And the view was wonderful. Very helpful with handicap accessible too

Yelp
UPDATE: BRADY was our server and deserves proper accolades. I believe Lucas (the guy wearing a face shield) stepped in to assist at the end.

Susy H.

Yelp
The food was very good, very pleasant service, and a beautiful restaurant. Lot of variety on the menu, and tasty. A tad expensive, but overall worth it.

Yelp
I lived in cedarburg a couple decades ago before this place had been converted into a restaurant! Also cedarburg has gotten way busier since I moved, we were going to have a 45 minute wait so we left to see if any other restaurant had a shorter wait and they were all that long so we circled back around to Anvil and were seated right away! We were all hungry and started with brussel sprouts. They were crispy and delicious, but I wish I would've maybe asked for something else to dip on the side because the dip was bacon aioli and I'm not a vegetarian. My sister liked it though! For my meal I got a veggie sandwich. The pasta dishes looked delicious too but I wanted something lighter. I love that they make their bread in the oven there, the bread was definitely the best part! My sister and brother liked the bread too. Enjoyed this restaurant!

Shawn D.

Yelp
So far the food is substandard and service is subpar. The blooming onion was not a blooming onion at all. The clam chowder appetizer was so so. The entire was awful the pasta was not done the pesto was basil with olive oil. Our poor waitress tried very hard but the management failed completely. I sent my a dinner back and that didn't even generate a response from the management just left our waitress to suffer. I tried not to be to negative to our waitress but the service and food sucked. When I tried to discuss the issues with the chief because he was the only management their and told him that he left his pour waitress to fend for herself and that was bad management as well as bad food he got belligerent and yelled at me from over the counter from the kitchen with a room full of customers what an unprofessional ass and pitiful excuse for a chief and manager

Kathy J.

Yelp
After reading all the great reviews, we were really disappointed. The shrimp skewers were alright, but the couscous they were served with was mushy and tasteless. The baked pasta with meatballs special was like soup and had little flavor. It was nothing like the server described and I really doubt it was baked. We left the majority of both uneaten. The artichoke dip appetizer was pretty good, but the blue chips served with it were stale. i don't think we'll be going back.

Melissa W.

Yelp
Food is good, but it is very expensive for the amount you get. The layout is not very handicap friendly.

Shelly S.

Yelp
Great food. Awesome old fashions. Beautiful setting. Michelle really works every ounce of this business. She leads her team with a tireless approach.

Yelp
I had a choice of the special(salmon something bake dish) or the short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and carrots . I am going to be thinking of that dish for days!!! It was so delicious!!!!! And great service!!!! I love coming to visit Cedarburg and love stopping here!!!!! Thank youuuuu

Caitlin W.

Yelp
This place is excellent!! Totally recommend! The drinks are refreshing, the staff is great, & the food is perfectly prepared.
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
Interesting menu and wonderful setting (in good weather) above the dam and on the river. Full meals can be expensive, but if you're there for a sandwich (Philly Steak) or salad (Cedarburg with chicken) and a soup (Korean chicken dumpling), our $30 tab offered a great luncheon experience. We'll come back when we want to take friends to lunch.

Michael G.

Yelp
I was in the restaurant on the main floor and I witness the yelling from the manager to Shawn D. never seen a so-called chef manager yell across the restaurant like that. But after my experience I agree with Shawn D. food was almost un-eatable. the drinks were so weak I sent mine back twice. the house wine was horrible. The bread was also bad. They charge for things other restaurants give out free not Anvil. After what I saw if I was the owner I would fire the chef and completely redo the menu. For my wifes birthday dinner we couldn't wait to exit.

Yelp
If you're looking for a unique setting in cute downtown Cedarburg that has excellent food and drink, then Anvil Pub and Grill is your jam. I have been to Anvil Pub and Grill many times now and have never been disappointed and I'm a hard nose critic. Seems today ( post covid) that many resturaunts/bars have just gone downhill in service, food and drink quality and staffing. Well, Anvil Pub and Grill stood the test of time and has kept its high quality services and food through it all. A cool old and historic setting, Anvil Pub and Grill building itself is a treat to see. The fresh baked bread is something special here, baked in a hand stone oven right behind the bar. For apps, I highly recommend the cheese bread app, the artichoke dip, and the South of cedarburg. I'm sure all of the apps are great, these are just my personal favorites. The Shortrib Mushroom melt is definitely a sandwich that everyone e should try, it's my wifes favorite she gets it everytime we eat here. All of the sandwiches are served on the "knock your socks off" fresh baked bread that we talked about earlier. If you want to get your moneys worth and punched in the face with flavor than do yourself a favor and eat at Anvil Pub and Grill.

Marie K.

Yelp
Drinks and food are always great!! A bit expensive, but we do love to go here. It's a frequent date night spot. The atmosphere is welcoming and charming. The service is great no matter if you're ordering a meal or just getting drinks on the patio-- the wait staff is truly kind. Highly recommend to stop in and give it a try, it might just become your favorite place!

Tierra R.

Yelp
Most things are good on the menu, a couple things were a little bland but the views are amazing as is the service! Their bread is amazing!!!
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
Great patio but the mosquitos were out in full force after sunset so we sat inside. Loved the look of this gem inside and out. Food and drink menu were excellent to pick from. We ordered the Sea Bass and Ribeye, both great picks. The deserts surprised us and were excellent. Our waitress was the best and super friendly. I would give this 6 stars if I could. Cant wait to be back!

Deb C.

Yelp
Was here during the spring so outside seating was limited but WOW ! We were so glad we got one of the tables outdoors Great view of the water and the dam. Service was awesome and the food was amazing!!! We had some great soup and one of their special sandwiches Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
From the moment we walked in to time we left service was outstanding owner was hospitable did not charge me for a corkage fee and the food was fantastic I am a business owner and I will definitely recommend anvil to all my guests thank you for a great time tonight We at Chiselled grape winery salute you

Yelp
Solid place and nice setting. Juicy burgers. I don't know if it would be as good in winter as we just moved here in May.
