The staff at The Anvil is amazing—truly friendly and attentive, which we really appreciated. It had been about five years since I last ate here, and honestly, it may be another five before I return. I had high hopes for dinner, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to them. I ordered the shrimp orzo dinner. The shrimp came butterflied with the shells still on, but there was no extra dish provided for the shells, which made things a bit messy. The shrimp also wasn’t hot, which was disappointing, and the portion felt small for the price. I ended up ordering a cup of soup just to feel satisfied. My daughter had the cheese curds and said some were hollow—like the cheese had squeezed out during frying. I love supporting our Cedarburg spots, but for me, the food here was just okay. It filled the gap of not making dinner, but that’s about it.

Lovely historic building right on the river. The food is great and the service is fast and friendly. They even have a small upstairs area for extra seating where you can look out over the restaurant.

Stopped in after riding bikes from Thiensville. Great spot along the river, with nice seating on the outdoor patio. Got seated right away. Our server was absolutely terrific. Super busy, but she let us know she saw us and would come back ASAP. (I always appreciate that kind of acknowledgement, thanks Beth). Ordered drinks and a couple of appetizers. They came out quick and were the right temperature. Got the Nachos and South of Cedarburg stuffed wontons. The Nachos were very good, the right amount of cheese and toppings. The wontons were not that good. Plenty of fillings, but it was kinda mushy. Would not order that again. All total, a pleasant lunch in a great location.

Went to the Anvil for a Birthday meal and I greatly enjoyed going there. The building itself is old but incredibly well kept homely in a pleasant way, cozy and very clean! The service was good and very patient especially considering I has to wait for my other company to arrive, no problems there! The food was excellent, from the shepherd's pie I got, to the duck wantons and even the mozzarella sticks, all was fantastic to me. I loved it at the Anvil, give it a go if you're in the area you won't be disappointed! Pictures are of the inside and outside of the building, the decor, the menu, and the food!

Unfortunately just didn't quite hit the mark on most dishes. BBQ duck sandwich and short rib Mac and cheese were good. Burger was a frozen patty, cooked medium rare (ordered medium), and mushrooms on it were raw. Butternut squash ravioli was ok but too sweet. Anvil chicken over cooked and dry.

Visiting the city on a sunny Saturday morning and decided to get some lunch. Wonderful use of existing space and history. Our server was very polite, helpful and attentive. This place has a wonderful menu. My wife had the Short Rib Mushroom Melt with a Dill Pasta side. I had the Philadelphia Cheese Steak sandwich with fries. The sandwich was on their brick oven bread and absolutely sent the sandwich to another dimension with flavor. I would have preferred the onions and peppers cut into smaller pieces but only so they could be incorporated more into the flavor of each bite. It was still one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. The aioli was really good. Nice, smooth and rich. We will definitely be going back to try other things.

A+ across the board. We sat outside along the river which was fabulous, our server was exceptional and the food may have actually been the best part. We'll definitely be going back soon.

The atmosphere was lovely, the Bluberry Lavender Mojito was DELICIOUS, the food wasn't even mediocre! We both ordered the bacon wrapped chicken breast that was supposed to be stuffed with chives and cream cheese, mine had none & his had a little spot... NO FLAVOR!! The Garlic Smashed potatoes were so thick you could have mudded a wall with them and had NO GARLIC to them,NO FLAVOR!! Was so disappointed, I brought my Husband somewhere new for his Birthday Celebration but it definitely wasn't worth the 50 minute Drive or the cost of the Bill!! The waitress was Great though!!
