Aparhtotel silver was our home away from home while visiting the absolutely fabulous city of Barcelona. It is located in the Gracia district, a bit on the outskirts of the main city area, and is a relatively small hotel with a personalized feel.
Upon arriving late at night on a rainy Tuesday, we were greeted by the clerk and he checked us in and gave us the room key. We asked if we could have a second key copy since there were 2 of us, but since the locks on the doors are a traditional lock and key rather than a card, they do not have copies. They also ask you to leave the key at the front desk while away from the hotel, presumably to prevent loss or theft of the key in the streets.
We were exhausted from a long day of travel and went right up to our room. We were impressed to see it was modern inside the room and very clean. It was a great size overall with a nice storage closet and a safe as well as a flat screen TV and best of all, a kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a stove top burner, small sink, microwave and small fridge with freezer compartment. This was a life saver while we were here in BCN and we were so glad to have it. We used it often to store snacks, drinks and sandwich making items which we purchased from one of many local supermarkets. This helped to save money on constantly dining out and was just nice to have a place to make food without having to leave to eat dinner every night.
The wifi worked great and never had any problems. Rooms were cleaned daily and staff was always quick to accommodate any requests.
The bed was very comfortable, the black out shades on the windows were a life saver and made it so easy to sleep in late in the morning. They do offer a breakfast out on a nice balcony area outside, and it is priced at 8 euros. My mom tried it one day and said they had a decent selection of items, but i never personally tried it myself. Upon check out, we left our luggage in the lockers on property as we had a day to sight see before leaving the city but didn't want to lug around our bags all day. It worked out great.
The only aspect that is less than great of this hotel is their location. Due to it being in Gracia district, as I mentioned its a bit outside the main area. In a way, this is a plus, since we got to check out an area that the locals tend to hang out in more than being overrun by a bunch of tourists. Many cool, local tapas shops and stores are located within walking distance and the L3 line Fontana metro is literally a 2 minute walk away. However, even with the metro being so close, it still took a minimum of 20 minutes to get to many attractions (i.e. Font Magica, Sagrada, Parc Guell, etc) and the beach was even further about 45 minutes away by bus or metro. If you are okay with staying a bit further out and commuting into town, then it's not an issue at all. The price cannot be beat for all we did receive during our stay. At only 85 euros a night for a place that includes a kitchenette, that's a steal, especially in May. Due to this factor, we were easily able to overlook the location issue and were very satisfied with our stay.
Overall, we had a great experience here and I would definitely recommend to others.
