The place is well located but the inside of apartment has old furniture and is rather dusty. Besides the dusty interior, Markus, is a rather hostile host. We had two extended stays, and felt he advertised things that were just not available, ultimately. He advertises free internet but the internet was very weak to non-existent- it was non existent even at 3 AM when there were few other users. When we approached him to address the issue, little to nothing was done, and we had to come up with our own solution. He advertises free parking yet when we asked him to park a relative’s car who visited for mere hours, he was rude, unhelpful and made sure we could never dare ask again. We still asked again, later, as we paid to have access to parking and he acted as it was a favor- when it again, was for mere hours. The entire time we were always very considerate of other guests and often just hung clothes in apartment after washing to not take up space in drying room. We hung up clothes downstairs during our final days there, and he literally screamed at us for “taking up the whole house”. I do have reasons for saying that he treats white European guests better than non white guests. We had a longer stay there- 3-4 summer months- and never ever used the garden, barely even stepped foot in the backyard, as we not dare ask him to use it knowing he would be rude, inhospitable and some form of insulting. we did not even feel comfortable to step in garden area to avoid feeling we were not allowed there by Markus. There are many other nice places to stay in Basel, it is simply not worth the risk of repeatedly being treated dis-respectully by Markus. We recommend you go elsewhere. We sure wish we had.
