Beautiful hotel at a prime location in the heart of Edinburgh. Just a few steps away from the Victoria Street and the Edinburgh castle. Checking in and out and very fast and simple, and the staff were extremely friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the heating system worked perfectly. The shower had good water pressure, and the bathtub was quite large. Reasonable price compared to other options, and we felt very welcomed. Would most definitely recommend and come back for a future stay. Thank you so much for such a lovely experience!

This is a great hotel, close to all the touristy parts of Edinburgh. The rooms are lovely, modern, clean and big making a stay easy. I also really appreciated that they offer to bring you fresh milk for free to your room for your tea/coffee plus there is a water filter tap in the hallway.

The hotel was really nice. I think our room was accessible, which might have made it a little larger than a regular room, but it was quite livable. I like the sustainability of this hotel. They have a bottle filler in the hallway, have a couple of floors. There’s a comfy couch at the end of the hall overlooking the grass market with even a nice view of the castle.|Restaurants right nearby|I would recommend the location and the ambience of this hotel

Room was very large and surprisingly quiet. Bed was queen size and on the hard size. Bathroom was decent with bath and shower. Breakfast was decent with lots of choice. Usually the food came within 5 minutes but on one occasion they forgot us so it nearly an hour before we got it! Great location

The most important thing to know about this hotel is that its location is GOLD. Literally across the street from Victoria Street and a street filled with a dozen popular pubs, you could not pick a better location. It was wonderful to be able to easily walk back to our hotel for a quick nap or a clothing refresh. The staff was kind and efficient, the room basic but clean and functional, the beds comfy and the linens soft. The only complaint we had about it was that there is no option to watch Netflix or any other streaming service. We stayed at a few other remote hotels during our stay, and so it’s strange that this major hotel wouldn’t have at least one option for streaming or an HBO channel option. However, the rest of our experience was wonderful and the location simply grand.

Nice hotel down the back side of the Edinburgh Castle in Haymarket. Accommodations, common areas & breakfast were nice. Very good breakfast. Coffee is powdered only, although you can ring down for real milk which was delivered promptly. Filtered water station on each floor with carafes - instead of bottles 🙌 No air conditioning in the rooms. The windows were open & a rotating fan was on the desk. Lower rating because we had arrived on an international flight very exhausted. Our room wasn’t ready so the attendant took our number to call when one was ready. We left for over 3 hours. Finally, we return to the hotel lobby to wait for the call or 2pm…. After waiting about 20 minutes, then seeing several people given rooms, we went to ask & our rooms were ready. Turns out they “tried to call but it wouldn’t go through a while ago” - not ideal check in for overseas travelers in a tourist area.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel. The location couldn’t be better, right in the heart of the city, just steps away from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, yet still peaceful enough for a great night’s sleep. The staff were outstanding, warm, friendly, and always happy to help with recommendations or bookings. My room was spotless, modern, and incredibly comfortable, with thoughtful touches that made it feel special. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with plenty of variety to suit every taste. I truly felt looked after from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. I will definitely be returning and recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Google
We had a lovely stay at the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel. The location couldn’t be better – right in the Grassmarket, with the Castle practically looking down on you. It makes exploring the city so easy, with the Royal Mile, Greyfriars and all the main sights just a short walk away. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable, with everything you need for a good stay. Staff were friendly and welcoming, always happy to help with directions or recommendations. Breakfast was spot on too, with plenty of choice to set you up for a day of sightseeing. What I really liked was how relaxed it felt – it’s central, but once you’re inside it’s quiet and peaceful, so you get the best of both worlds. All in all, a great base for exploring Edinburgh. We’d definitely stay again.

Yelp
Absolute wonderful location in the middle of everything. Was worried a bit that it might be loud from street noise but it was perfect. The staff were brilliant and made our time in Edinburgh welcoming and memorable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stayed here 2 nights on a recent visit. Nice and clean. Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Water filling stations on each floor is a nice touch. Breakfast in the morning had hot fresh food and juices as well as the ability to order from The menu. Bar area large for an evening drink. There is a small gym, and pool for use as well. Located right by Grassmarket it's very easy to walk to pubs, restaurants and Victoria Street.

Yelp
Hotel is in a great location. Staff is friendly but the hotel is tired. Compared to the Apex property we just came from in London this property needs some TLC. You can tell it's been a while since anything has been touched up in the rooms looking at the paint around the doors and inside cabinets. Floors are all marked up. Hotel is peaceful. Within walking distance to a lot of things you'd want to see in Edinburgh.

Yelp
We stayed at the Apex City for 4 nights-mostly weekdays. The location on Grass market was perfect- just a 5 minute walk from the Royal mile, shops, restaurants & Castle. They also have their sister hotel (Apex Grass Market) just a couple of doors down the street. We got the City plus rooms & they were modern & a good size. We thought we would be getting a front window with a city view but ended up with a side window and partial view of the castle. So double check the room style description. Ultimately at $200 USD for "City Plus" you're paying for air conditioning, mini fridge & room size & overall for the location. Our room was clean with up to date furnishings & a large TV with ample amount of channels. Having an iron & board in the room was a nice touch. If you want a workout, you'll need to go to the sister hotel as the exercise facilities are there. They do have a restaurant with a full bar and a decent TV/lounge next to the restaurant. Check in and out was smooth overall and staff was friendly.

Yelp
Great service and cleanliness. I love a nice and quiet room and this hotel offer good service, nice size rooms and hotel is located close to loads of bars and resultant and minutes away from the castle. This good place and now one of my favourite hotels.

Yelp
Centrally located in Grassmarket, modern, clean, and an extremely helpful and friendly staff! Breakfast is available in the hotel including the infamous English Breakfast. We enjoyed our 4 day stay there and would highly recommend it to our friends.

Yelp
Great location, but didn't meet the mark. Checking in was a nightmare, rooms need repair, bathroom was fool smelling, and towels were dirty. The hotel just wasn't worth the price. Not terrible, but not awesome.

Yelp
Great location and very friendly staff. Room was clean, serviced every day at flexible times - all in all exactly what we wanted and paid for. All with a wonderful castle view too

Yelp
I struggled with the decision to give 3 or 4 stars - let me explain... TOP NOTCH location!! I could see the castle from my window! There are pubs and shops across the street... And the overall vibe is outstanding! The hotel was currently going through a minor renovation - not a problem - but once you get into the room the details are nice but very poorly executed - truly not a huge deal, but nevertheless, something worth noting... With this location you are pretty damn near walking distance to EVERYTHING!

Yelp
We stayed in the basic room. Positives: clean and quiet. Daily provision of regular toiletries - AND a healthy supply of a mixture of English teas and Galaxy hot chocolate (mmmm). English biscuits on the side. Front desk staff professional. Negatives: No air conditioning only heating and a window that barely opens. If you stay here in summer, pay the extra and upgrade - where you will be provided with a/c. Location is good, the #2 bus right at street level near the hotel. Also, fridge does not come with basic room but if they have one spare they'll provide it (not guaranteed). Non-smoking property.

Yelp
Superb hotel in a fantastic location! Just walk outside and take advantage of the Grassmarket bars and restaurants. You're also only steps from iconic Victoria Street and then city center and the new town are easily walkable and allow you to really soak in all of Edinburgh. The hotel is modern and rooms are very sizeable esp for European standards. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Great hotel! Stayed here a month ago for a couple days and would definitely recommend and stay here again. Very clean and modern hotel. 10 outta 10

Yelp
Bottom Line: There are many other centrally located hotels and rental apartments in Edinburgh, so I do NOT recommend risking Apex City Hotel's billing practices. PROs: The Apex City Hotel is located between all the top tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, and clubs. We loved the free internet and free computers. The rooms were nicely sized and well kept. The furniture was a little dated and worn. The reception staff were very nice, professional, and accommodating. CONs: The reservation staff are ruthless. We booked our 2 night stay prior to starting our trip and turned down their offer to book a third night at half price. During our trip, we decided to stop at Edinburgh a night sooner. Apex City Hotel referred us to their offsite reservation staff to the book the extra night. (Weird that they can't do it at the hotel, but ok.) We called and were disappointed that the reservation staff would no longer offer us the third night at half price. Moreover, we found out AFTER we got home that they treated our addition of an extra night as a modification to our reservation and charged us $64!! We never authorized this charge. I learned of it for the first time when reviewing my credit card statement. After several emails with their reservation staff, they are standing behind their charge. I couldn't believe it! We paid $455.96 for three nights at their hotel (NOT including the $64 charge)....in the OFF SEASON. I can't imagine what they charge during peak season. And I really can't imagine why they felt entitled to charging us for "modifying" our reservation by adding a night. We didn't get the rescinding of the third night at half off deal....but found the "modification" fee for wanting to stay a third night absolutely ridiculous. I had to contest the charge with VISA.

Yelp
Hotels in the UK are expensive, however the Apex was very reasonably priced and still provided the same level of care as a 4 star hotel. The location is great and the bar is top notch. The rooms were huge by European standards and were clean and well kept. Unlike the much higher priced doubletree... Apex actually provided free in room wi-fi. That feature really won me over plus it was also 10 minutes walk to Edinburgh Castle. My only slight complaint was the noise level in the mornings, as people left their rooms to check out and catch the train. In fairness there was a convention there at the time and nothing spells rowdiness like a bunch of out of town business men and women away from their partners for a few days. Give this place a try, you'll be happy you did.

Yelp
Very nice hotel! We were there on a 4 days trip. Everyone was very nice with us and always keen on helping. We had the scottish breakfast which was very good even though a little expensive. We'll definitely come back!

Yelp
A nice hotel in a great Grassmarket location. Just a flight of steps up to Edinburgh Castle. We could actually see it from our window. Grassmarket has several pubs, which makes it perfect for an evening pint before settling in for the day. Room was pretty standard, but had everything needed. Bathroom was spacious , with a squeaky clean bathtub. Staff was courteous and helpful. A helpful tip - if you're walking to the hotel from the train station, do NOT go along the Royal Mile, even though on the map it seems like the easiest route. You will have to go up and down multiple, tall stairways. Best take the cab, or walk along some of the side streets. They can get steep though.

Yelp
Very nice hotel, feels small, but comfortable. Large lounge/restaurant area, but I didn't have time to check it out. Room was very clean, good shower, clean linens and towels, etc. Extremely cordial at check-in, offered to hold my bags after checkout if I was touring the city. Highly recommended and very affordable.

Yelp
Good breakfast, friendly staff, amazing location, nice rooms, a smallish gym (but it's there!), free internet, good vibe, etc.. BUT! What brings this hotel from a 3 to a 4 is the complimentary rubber ducks - need I say more? :-D

Yelp
Had a buffet here a number of years ago but this week's visit was the first sit-down meal I'd had in this hotel restaurant. Ordinarily I'd not have chosen it but it's close to work and they'd a two courses for £8.50 deal on that suited my party's needs. The deal was available as advertised & the staff aware of it so no complaints on that score. Both the white & rose wine ordered were pronounced enjoyable. All meals were served with the minimum of delay (we were though practically the only customers between 6 & 7) and no-one could fault the presentation or taste. On the downside I think there need to be more than 3 oatcakes with the farmhouse terrine as it is a good sized portion you're served and the oatcakes were completely absent from the cheese selection I had for dessert. We also ordered chocolate ice-cream but received vanilla. All in all average but pleasant which is probably the best that a lot of such places can aim for seeing as the main income of hotels is from accommodation.

Yelp
Perhaps a rather ordinary meal, but then again it is really just a holding pen for the hotel and I've always tried to avoid hotel-food as I have a deep rooted dislike for it. The whole thing was pleasant at best, but the oatcakes were so stale it almost rendered them inedible and it took a long time to be served so ended up not bothered at all with any pudding. As I expected with it's lobby feel, everything was over priced and could essentially be got else where, better and cheaper. If I wasn't trying to experience new exciting things in my home town I would've never gone in. If I hadn't I wouldn't have been missing out on anything more than a nicely made coffee and a uncomfortably quiet atmosphere.

Yelp
Three friends and I came here for dinner, overall I was disappointed with the food. While it looked pretty it lacked substance. I was pleased we weren't paying full price for the meals. The place itself is nice, although tables are a little too close together. The staff were friendly.

Yelp
Stopped in here and got a room same day. We were just passing through for one day and this place had what we needed. A room for three, a bathroom and a bed. We even got a little holiday rubber duck to toss in the backpacks! Super friendly staff and they were able to store our bags for us when we got there and the room wasn't available yet so that we could go and explore the city. We were there in the off season, so chances are we were just lucky... was a little pricey and located at the bottom of a GIANT hill, so that sucked. All in all, glad we found the place.

Yelp
Apex City has a lot going for it - namely location, cleanliness, friendly staff and right across from several happening bars, restaurants, and attractions, not to mention a farmers market on Saturdays in the square in front. I felt like I lucked out on this hotel pick having never been to Scotland or Edinburgh and having chosen pretty much at random. They gave me a cot when my friends crashed with me unexpectedly for two nights of my stay at no extra charge. They also serve food late in the bar when I was starving after arriving from the States on a Thursday night. I stopped in at 10:30 hoping for some food and was made at home and got one of the best salads I ordered my whole trip, plus friendly conversation from the bartender and others at the bar. Why only three stars then? Well because I had the windows open on Saturday night and on the third floor it got a bit loud. Also, because you have to go to their sister property down the block to access the gym. Annoying. With that said I would probably stay here again if their sister hotel, the Apex International had no availability.

Yelp
good city centre hotel. Ideal for business or pleasure, well appointed rooms, clean and with parking. Modern decor and quirky touches such as a Wiiin the foyer for visiting children(or men!) to amuse themselves with. Has a bistro downstairs, and an upstairs restaurant with stunning Castle views. Close to shopping, and opposite several eateries with al fresco dining, very villagey location feel.
