"The 20-Million-Year-Old Petrified Forest on Lesbos The name can be misleading: Lesvos's petrified forest is really only the remains of a prehistoric forest. On the other hand, those remains are 20 million years old, and the forest is just one of two found in the world. The hike along the coast is worth it, and you'll be able to get up close to some of the old tree stumps. Their size is impressive; the trees must have been massive in their day! There is also a visitor's center onsite."

Go early to the outside park for the hike..if you love geology, rocks and lunar landscapes, this is heaven. Sadly the numbers in the map in the book does not correspond to the numbers in frount of the trees, so it can be confusing even of the pictures help. The museum is well worth the visit too

Nice destination. Well-maintained and well-presented open-air museum. It’s a large circular walk. Keep in mind that there’s very little shade and the route includes some elevation changes. Unfortunately, there’s also no refreshment area to relax afterwards.

The ticket price includes both the forest and museum for a same day visit, so leave time for both if you like. When we visited in November the signs were being renovated so there were no on-site descriptions of what we were observing. However, we have visited before and it is still an impressive display of in situ petrified trees. The park is being upgraded significantly and there is another section just outside the village of Sigri on the sea. It is on the far side of the public beach. During summer it can be quite hot, so bring water and take advantage of the pergolas for shady rest. The views of the hills are expansive and we love hearing the distant tinkling of sheep's bells. It's quite serene and, for us, relaxing. Part of the path has stairs and part of it is without stairs. WC on site. I took off one star for lack of signage or any offer of information about the park on this visit. Usually I would give it five stars.

This place is huge! I was glad I went . Best maintained trails in Greece . I was able to get internet to purchase a ticket but it took some doing. I only had 5 euros and the ticket was 8. Best to bring cash.

Went on a uni trip, very nice field trip from the U of the Aegean! So much fun going around the island and learning more about the petrified forest of Lesvos. This island is amazing!

It is an interesting experience for those interested. However, the same stone trees can also be found on the road to Sigri village. You don't necessarily need to enter this park. The area is very large and especially hilly, so it is very difficult to visit in the summer. It is possible to see both examples of these trees and more exhibition materials in the natural history museum in Sigri village. As I mentioned at the beginning, those who are very, very interested can visit the park.

Very special place this one. You can really feel how this place is protected and it makes one happy. There is a lot of walking and there are many trees (that all seem alike). The ticket you buy here also applies to the Museum in Sigri which is worth visiting now that you have a ticket (15 min drive)

Premise: absolutely first you must visit the Sigri museum and then visit the forest. The museum makes you understand how the trees got petrified, as well as showing you some of them. To walk through the forest takes approx 1.30h walking slowly. Unfortunately, I was at the beginning of the season (April) and many of the petrified trees were still covered with the plastic that I guess serves to keep them from getting dirty and ruined. It is still a park to visit, if possible in good weather.
