A Review of Norway’s Hotel Brosundet

"A cozy onsite brasserie serving seafood-centric meals for lunch and dinner, offering snug Nordic comfort and fresh local catch as the dining option most convenient to guests; the restaurant operates under the same boutique 62°NORD hospitality umbrella as the nearby fine-dining venue."

You can't fault this place - absolutely amazing experience for us: the food was cooked to perfection, full of flavours and beatifully presented, the wines were great and the service was warm, welcoming and attentive but not disturbing. The ambience is also nice, with dimmed lights and low noise level to comfortably talk. I can easily recommend this for someone spending a few days in Ålesund and willing to have a pleasant and relaxing dining experience.

Visited here for the chef tasting menu and wine pairing. While I love trying new foods from other cultures, sometimes you can get scared by the names of the dishes or what is put in front of you. While this happened to me, I did try everything, and I cleaned every plate! The food was so good! The wines were all paired perfectly (I did not like the wine served with dessert but that's a me thing, I don't care of the bubbles). The king fish, served in brown butter and soy was amazing. The monk fish in a lobster bisque...wow. Lamb was amazing as was the light dessert that had rhubarb, white chocolate and the delicious foam made from yogurt and cheese. Sometimes you got to just say f**k it and trust the chef. I'm glad I did.

Lovely spot overlooking the harbour, cancels highlight the atmosphere of this whole building which has separate areas for bar and restaurant. One of our best meals here, cabbage was amazing, best I’ve ever had. Others dishes slido good

Great cuisine and wonderful staff equals a perfect culinary experience. Reservation is recommended, as walk-ins may expect limited time slots. Our waiter was very helpful, especially with the wine choice. It was the best restaurant we visited in Ålesund.

One word: wow! Absolutely recommended to dine here. Worth every single penny! Great seasonal menu based on local ingredients. Cozy vibes and wonderful staff service. The food was super delicious with many creative combinations in each dish. Reservation is required since it is busy.

I had a light lunch with salads and traditional open-bread toasts outside in an existing floating platform over the channel/ fjord. The food was very good. Service was normal to slow, but efficient. The restaurant’s room inside is very unappealing and dark - nobody sit there. Maybe at night the atmosphere is different.

It is situated in a renovated old building near the waterway. We were a group for dinner, and had the set menu. Every dish was outstanding. Flavours, textures, top notch ingredients perfectly cooked and presented by excellent staff. Starter was a sashimi of yellowtail marinated in their sauce, with chopped chives, whipped avocado cream, fresh chili, copiously served and a delight in every bite. The homemade light bread disappeared very fast. This was followed by monkfish filet presented in a lobster bisque sauce with some crunchy fennel and smoked chopped cabbage- delicious. Third course was lamb filet tender and pink in its own juice served with some asparagus, roasted sliced potato with a wild garlic mousse. Dessert was also fabulous with tender rhubarb, and baby strawberries with a strawberry sorbet, some creamed yogurt, and some crumbles of deliciousness. Fantastic job done by the kitchen, and front of house.

A restaurant that belongs to Brosundet hotel in Ålesund Norway. The chef knows its job. Any meal I had there was absolutely incredible. The flavors are so well balanced and the crayfish was the best prepared fish I’ve ever eaten in my life so far. I’ve tried crayfish and later red fish (on two occasions). Also, do not miss the cauliflower stake with bacon powder and truffles.

Yelp
We started with a round of cocktails at the Arkivet bar before heading down the stairs to our reservation in the restaurant. The restaurant space had great energy - dark & romantic. The ordering experience was easy, made even easier by the allergens listed clearly on the menu (milk, egg, fish, sulfites, wheat, celery, mustard, barley, lactose, nuts). I can't eat gluten & was delighted when I saw how well everything was marked. Norway beats the US in every way when it comes to allergy awareness. Our favorite dish was the cod from Midsund - the cauliflower puree was incredible. My only critique was how close the tables were to each other. We were seated at a 2-top against a half wall which separated the restaurant. There was a couple seated at another 2-top directly on the other side of the half wall. I was within arms length of them. It felt like we were sitting at the same table, which was very uncomfortable. I don't mind sitting close to other patrons in a casual, bustling restaurant, but this was a intimate, high-end dinner spot. We felt like we had no privacy in our own conversation. Other than that, we enjoyed our experience. It was extra nice to be able to get back to our hotel room without even going outside.

Yelp
Wow! What a 5 star experience. After finding the local recommended fish restaurant was full, we opted for apothetera gate number 5. This restaurant blew us away. We started with three appetizers, the cabbage (smoked and cooked with dictate sauce), the hake fish which was broiled, and lamb (tender and delicious) . This really was the highlight of the meal for us. Every dish was just cooked to perfection and presented in a delicate sauce which enhance the flavor. For the main, we had the local "klippfish" which is a salted dried fish that is rehydrated by soaking for a couple of days. It's an interesting flavor, and we glad we tried it, but it wasn't the best thing on the menu. If you go, taste, but don't make it your entree. Dessert was also spectacular. Blue cheese ice cream with crumbles, which sounds weird but was so delicious! Also had local strawberries with whipped cream, another delicacy. I can't neglect to mention the homemade sourdough bread. It was so delicious that we ordered another serving. Fresh, warm, melt in your mouth sourdough. Yummy. Service was attentive, informed, friendly but not overbearing. They really had the elegant restaurant experience down. Highly recommend.
