Google
This is THE BEST stocked beer and wine store I have ever visited, bar none. We were looking for some German radlers and they not only had the brand we loved, they had the maker's full line. We had no idea this brewer had 6 other beers. And when we asked about beers brewed with tart cherries, the assistant gladly spent time showing us beers and lambics from the US, Belgium and Germany. Very friendly. Very helpful.

Google
Had a Stout at a restaurant in Tennessee over a year ago, and it was the best I ever had! I loved it so much that I tried finding it, but to no avail no matter where I called or Googled, I even called the brewery that invented this flavor, Kalamazoo Stout in Michigan by a company called Bell's. They were completely out of stock and couldn't brew it fast enough, especially if you weren't a store buying 100' of cases...Today, walked into this place I went into out of the blue in Asheville NC and asked a sale's person about this flavor and they immediately walked me to the back of the store and low and behold, 2 six packs of the famous bottled Kalamazoo Stout. I bought them both!

Amazing collection of craft beer. Enjoy a draft while you shop. Some refrigerated, most on the shelf. Very helpful staff.

Google
One of the coolest and best places to get a bottle of wine or beer. Their selection is awesome. We drink a ton of craft beers and are always keen on trying something new. Appalachian Vintner has a great mix of local beers as well as others that are more difficult to find. Many are cold and ready to drink, others are stocked on the shelves, some are even sold as singles. During Covid they're taking extra precautions that we really appreciate such as having hand sanitizer at the entrance and making sure everyone including staff has a mask on. If you're looking for a place to get a quick six pack or something special, we recommend this one. Parking is free and easy. There's also an area with some snacks and gifts like t-shirts and hats.

Google
Super friendly knowledgeable staff! This place is on top of everything in the beer and wine world. So you are guaranteed to get nothing but the best quality products.

Google
Stopped by for a beer to enjoy with our pizza we got from next door (which I recommend). I wasn’t expecting to enjoy AV as much as I did. I thought it was more of a wine store with some beer, but no it’s just as much of a craft beef store! They had some great top rated beers on tap and in cans/bottles. It’s comfortable in there to sit back and enjoy a beer or two. Great place to escape the tourist crowds. We enjoyed hanging out that we grabbed another beer and got some French Broad chocolate to pair with it. Fantastic service! Be sure to check out the patio out back past the restrooms.

Google
App Vinter is our local. Whether it's a wine tasting, spending some time browsing with a pint or a quick pick up, we always have an incredible experience with these wonderful people. Thank you!!!

Victoria

Google
Place had a great selection of beer, wine and bitters. Was also able to get a new Mead and a new sake to try. Many of the beers can be purchased as individuals to try which is nice.

Yelp
Spectacular wine selection, excellent service, super friendly staff. Relaxed ambiance, very organized-clean shop. Wines from all over the world including some local North Carolina selections. If you are in Asheville this is the place to buy your wine!!

Yelp
Trivia: a person who makes or sells wines is called a ? I was super impressed with the selection. Less impressed with the service. Instead of a kind welcome or "can we help you find anything?" I got the "this guy looks shady" look. When I asked if they had any cardamom bitters, there was a notable difference in their demeanor. I guess shady characters don't ask about cardamom? I don't know. Super cool and eclectic area to grab some really cool brews with some friends. The name doesn't fully encompass their offerings.

Yelp
This place is awesome and was a block over from our hotel! I came across it because I was looking for a wine shop that might carry an Austrian wine that isn't available in Texas. Lo and behold, this shop showed it carried it online. The place isn't huge, but has a great selection of wine and craft beers from all over the world. The price point is a little higher on some of the overseas beers, but not outrageous like some places we've seen. While you shop, you can grab a glass of wine or draft beer. I went for a white they had on that day and my boyf got the pilz from Zilicoah brewing (served from a proper Czech tap - presentation points!). My wine was great and we were so happy to try the Zilicoah beer here because we didn't have that brewery on our list of places to check out, but added it once we had the beer at the bottle shop. The bartender mentioned it was one of the best breweries in town as well for pilsners. Service was great and everyone was lovely! I ended up buying 3 bottles of wine from here and my boyf got one of the Bruery bottles.

Yelp
This place was awesome. They had a wide variety of all kinds of stuff in here. I was greeted and helped and everyone was positive and helped me with my all my questions. Neat spot.

Yelp
Some friends and I were visiting Asheville this past weekend. My car was assigned to pick up some beer, bubbly, and Luxardo cherries. Long story short, we ended up at Appalachian Vintner, and I'm so glad we did. They had plenty of Luxardo cherries (yay!) and mixings for cocktails. They also had a great beer selection, and plenty of wine, champagne, etc. Additionally, the staff helped us with several questions and recommendations. I was so pleased with my shopping experience here; I will absolutely be back when I am in Asheville!
google avatar

Yelp
This store has everything that is wine or beer. The selection of wines and beers is excellent. The staff is very friendly and most helpful. I highly recommend this business.

Yelp
Can't wait to go back! Excellent selection of vermouths, bitters and even some meads to explore, as well as wines, beers and ciders. Helpful, available staff is a giant plus, as well.

Yelp
Wow just had the worst customer experience ever, and we are easy going people never to complain until now! My husband and I stopped to browse and shop for wines, beer etc., we were enjoying looking around for approx 10 minutes then we hear "you'll have to leave the store we don't open until 11"...we replied oh the door was unlocked and we saw he was visiting with someone at the checkout counter when we entered... he never said anything to us like oh sorry the door is unlocked but we aren't open yet... we would have gladly left and returned later. They open at 11:00 and it was 10:40 when this occurred! He went on to be very obnoxious saying oh, there's a sign that says closed, which is very small in the upper left of the door and we didn't notice it. And we said oh we didn't see the sign. He said "well you can just leave and come back if you want to when we are open", and we replied thanks but I think we will not be back and he said don't worry we won't miss you. Metro wines, Asheville wine market, south Slope wine and cheese shop everywhere else will get get our money... we believe do onto others as you would have them do onto you ....all he had to do was be nice and considerate, respectful and he chose not to. He may be an owner not sure, but someone definitely should talk to him and express just do what's right and treat customers kindly.

Yelp
Calling around Asheville looking for any remaining bottles of a fine apple cider called "Serious Cider" from Foggy Ridge Cider in Dugspur, VA, I found Appalachian Vintner. The proprietor checked and said they had one bottle left so I stopped by after an enjoyable day of visiting the nearby Biltmore Estate. I have never seen a more comprehensive stock of ciders and craft beers anywhere. The selection just boggles the mind. The proprietor quizzed me on my preferences and offered alternatives similar to what I was seeking including a French dry, lightly effervescent cider and a canned bone dry cider. I decided to take home some of the alternatives along with their last bottle of Foggy Ridge. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary or need some help finding a special brew to match your tastes, I couldn't recommend a better place to spend some time seeking advice and browsing their massive selection.

Yelp
We went there for our anniversary. We were surprised at how comfortable and relaxing atmosphere we felt. Our server was on spot with needs. The food was delicious. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly. My stuffed ravioli was delicious. We definitely coming back very soon. Thank you for helping us celebrate with a wonderful meal and atmosphere. Yelp
Fantastic selection of craft beers, but way too many to choose from. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Yelp
Go to place for beer and wine, amazing selection, amazing service and safe Shopping in these uncertain times.

Yelp
We stop in every time we visit Asheville and often multiple times. They've got a great selection of local beers and others from all over the world. We always find options we don't see anywhere else. They have an even bigger selection of wine but that's not our thing. I look forward to coming back after covid when the taps are running again.

Yelp
Hands down the best wine and beer store located in Asheville. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Largest selection of bar good in town.

Jesse J.

Yelp
Just want to give these guys props for always being helpful and very knowledgeable. If I go in and ask "hey do you guys have any bourbon barrel aged stouts?" Or "and fresh hopped ipas?" whoever I ask always seems to know exactly what my options are and usually a bit about most of the beers. Having such a big selection, I'm impressed.
google avatar

Yelp
visited for the first time last week! This place is fantastic! you would never know how big this place is from the outside!! great selection of wine, and beer! also, sell single cans which is a big win to test try instead of buying a whole pack! they sell cider beers which me and my girlfriend are huge fans of! the guys working were super nice and friendly! definitely will come back; you got a customer for life!!

Yelp
If you're in Asheville and need of some adult beverages, Appalachian Vintner is he spot. The have a multitude of craft beers and ciders from all over, as well as a large wine selection. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Stop in for a beer off at the small tap room bar in the center. I believe they have about fifteen draft offerings on the board. Can't go wrong!
google avatar

Liam S.

Yelp
Appalachian Vintner is your one-stop shop for all things inebriating. The taplist is outstanding, and always features rare and exciting new offerings from the most cutting-edge breweries, and you can fill anything in a growler. AV also has an excellent wine selection and a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highest marks for this establishment. The bar is dog-friendly!
google avatar

Jacob W.

Yelp
Went in to grab some wine and was surprised on the selection and organization of the store. If you like wine then this is the place to go.
google avatar

Kenny R.

Yelp
Best booze store around. EXTREMELY knowledgeable but not pretentious staff. And super friendly to boot. Stephen N. can be found on a regular basis there, lol. I'm always happy to join if I'm free. Beer, wine, sake, whatever your preference. They have it. Bring in some cheeses and crackers and just make a day of it.
google avatar

Yelp
A place in which to buy delicious, sometimes rare beer/wine, while being able to drink delicious, sometimes rare beer/wine is about as close to heaven as a store can be. A tremendous selection of bottled beer, including some very unique finds and limited editions would be great enough, but add in a bar with a bunch of taps and an always diverse selection of craft beer and it's like some deity is smiling upon your day and saying "This is for you, human." Accept the gift and give thanks. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, passionate about beer, and always helpful. They are very friendly. The Vintner is a great place to hang out for a little while trying a new brew, (especially in the warmer months when you can hang out on the back balcony) but it's also great for that quick stop-in to grab some beer that will impress all of your beer nerd friends and further annoy those friends who drink crap. Use this gift we have been given.

Yelp
Great service and a great (vast) selection of wines. The staff was very knowledgeable about their products. This is the nicest wine shop I've found in and around Asheville. I can't believe it took me so long to go here. I highly recommend this shop to all wine lovers. P.s. They sell beer too.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Great store. Just passing through and wanted a couple nice bottles of wine. They got it all here, from the sublime to the obscure. Got an unusual Semillion from Argentina and a Priorat and a Barbera. Excellent.

Becky C.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the service and lack of concern for the customer experience at Appalachian Vitner. I have been there many times as a customer and one of the owners was extremely rude and lazy in his service. I will go to great lengths to avoid supporting them
google avatar

Brandon F.

Yelp
I'm new to Asheville, and have been to my share of bottle shops, and I must say the Appalachian Vintner is an excellent store with an impressive selection and a very knowledgeable staff. I'll most definitely be back.
google avatar

Jim A.

Yelp
The store is stocked full of unique wines in all price ranges, floor to ceiling selections of popular and hard to find craft beers, they an awesome tap beer system and the staff knows their stuff.

Tom T.

Yelp
1st time there. Was impressed upon entering, as it's a very large store. But was quickly disappointed with customer service (2 of them). One of the owners was rude and almost abrasive. Seems there are other reviews here that confirm this. That will quickly turn away customers. I'll go somewhere else next time.

Sheryl R.

Yelp
Every time we are in Asheville we stop here. In non Covid times I have tried some incredible drafts here. Their beer, wine, sake, etc selection is mind blowing. This is THE place to go to shop in AVL.

Yelp
Theeeeeeeeee Appalachian Vintner. Where to begin? Perhaps with the completely awesome, knowledgable staff, who not only are eager to sit down and talk at length about beer and wine, but are also just great people in general, and make visiting the Vintner a great experience. Perhaps with the wine selection! They have a great selection of Wines from all over the world, and if you don't know what you're looking for, you can give Geoff or Charles a rough idea of what you like and they'll have ideas. Perhaps with the BEER selection. Tons of microbrews, a couple great locals on tap, and a cooler with a wide selection of local growlers (they give discounts when you bring back old growlers, too. #powertip). Or maybe we should start with the atmosphere in there. It's cozy and welcoming. You can hang out at the bar or sit at a table and relax with a beer or some wine. They have free wine tastings on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings. Yep, you read that right. They're free! Just for being you. So go on in and sample some f**king wines. I guess I don't know WHERE to begin.. but I DO know where YOU should begin. You should begin by hopping in your car and driving dangerously and erratically to the Appalachian Vintner. I can't believe you haven't been there yet.

Yelp
My fiance and I were in town for wedding planning as we were a month out from the big day. We are providing the beer and wine for our wedding so I had researched this place and thought it'd be a great resource to buy local Asheville beer for reception. We checked their hours online and it said they closed at 9:30 pm. Great, because it was about 8:15pm on Friday night. The place has a massive and amazing selection of wine and beer so we were really excited. We decide to try a few on draft first and closed our tab. As we were closing in on finishing our beer we thought we might actually like to try one more and then grab a good chunk of wedding beer supplies...maybe a couple hundred dollars worth (our wedding planner can store it for us here in Asheville until the wedding.) Anyway, we thought we had stumbled into some sort of weird time warp when the unconcerned young man behind the counter tells us they already had last call. Wait, what? Has the time really slipped by us that quickly? So I ask, what time do you close? And he tells us 9:30 pm. Well, it was definitely 8:45 pm and nobody told us it was last call and considering there were maybe 2-3 other patrons in the establishment, I think the crickets and I would have heard. He seemed 4% geared toward letting us still have one more drink and the rest toward wiping down a few tables and getting the heck out of dodge so we didn't fight him and left disappointed. Few tips: stay open until closing time and I'd consider not having "last call" 45 min before said closing time. Luckily Asheville has tons of other beer options. This place is lackluster in customer service.
google avatar

Courtney T.

Yelp
My favorite place to stop while in town for work! I always make sure to pick up my month supply of North Carolina beer here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They take the time to educate you and help you find what you're looking for. I always leave with a list of recommendations and what to look forward to the next time I stop by.
google avatar

Derek E.

Yelp
Went here the other day for a bottle of wine and ended up with two bottles and a six pack of beer, mainly because the customer service was so awesome. A gentleman named Geoff helped us out and he was really nice and knew all about the wines. I'm not a wine guru so it was very helpful. I like the layout of the store, it's wide open and not crammed like some wine stores where you feel like you are saying 'excuse me' every 5 seconds. This is the type of local business I am proud to support - amazing customer service, friendly, and great selection.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
WOW. Huge selection of beers, local, national and international. Mix and match or 4/6 packs Etc. Plus draft, which I didn't try. A must visit.

Dustin D.

Yelp
What a great place in Asheville to be a beer enthusiast and see some friendly faces! This is a mainstay in Asheville for beer bottle/wine shop. One thing I've noticed over the years with Vintner is that they've never sold me an outdated or expired beer. Staff keeps their inventory in check and are very knowledgeable. I can be a real pain in the ass about picking out what beer I want, but they've given me great suggestions and endless patience. It's kinda like Ace Hardware for beer! Also, they've been above and beyond amazing during COVID-19 with masks, curbside, and over the phone assistance that honestly matches the highest level of customer service you can get.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Love this place. Quiet, great atmosphere. Kind and knowledgeable staff. Seemed a little forgotten about in the back, but it was a calm and slow atmosphere. Great place to try new wines and beers. Small but unique options.
google avatar

GT W.

Yelp
Very cool store+tasting bar+bottles available to drink on premise. Similar awesome set up to City Beer Store in SF. There's a front large wine area and a large back beer area. In the center are two tap systems and two bars. Small but interesting selection of local specialties including some rare offerings like Pisgah Chocolatized Vortex II. Some beers are fridged but for the most part they are out warm. Nicely organized at least by brewery and by region. Found some interesting things like Basque Sidra, La Rulles Estivale, no De La Senne was strange, Pisgah BA Vortex II (small bottle release). 900 bottles doesn't seem too far off- the selection is insane. Staff was friendly. Glassware selection was extensive. Loved this place.
google avatar

John Manley A.

Yelp
Friendly, knowledgeable guys that know their products. One of the better stores for local + other selections of beer.
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
Great place, nice selection of beer and wine, friendly staff...get a beer to sip while you shop!

thomas h.

Yelp
The manager was on the phone and couldn't be bothered with customers. Credit card machine issues caused my card to be scanned and charged 2x and 4 days later the charges are still pending yet the alcohol stayed at the store. The manager also was put out having to help me. Prices were high for the area. Would not recommend this establishment to anyone.
google avatar

Maggie D.

Yelp
This place was great as a place to stop and stock up on all the delicious beers we had in Asheville, before we head out of town. Staff was super helpful and gave us some great recommendations for other beers we might like, based on what we had already picked up. They had everything we were looking for.
google avatar

Rachael L.

Yelp
Great selection of beer and wine and other fun little drinking trinkets. They also have a bar which is really cool, I just wish the bar was more "bar-ish". I always feel like I am bothering them when I want to sit at the bar for a drink. We live within walking distance, so it would be cool for this to be our neighborhood bar for after work drinks, but there is just something about the atmosphere. Otherwise it's a great place to shop!

Andrew A.

Yelp
Cold and unfriendly staff. I was ignored and dismissed because the staff was bending over backwards to help someone else that was buying a case of beer while I was only looking to pick up a few different brews to try. There are a number of other beer and wine stores in town all with very friendly staff. Stay away from here.
google avatar

Kimberly K.

Yelp
The best place to get wine and beer in Asheville, hands down. Awesome and extensive selection with friendly service. You will never have to feel intimidated buying wine or beer again! The two brothers, Charles and Geoff, who are the owners, are very knowledgeable and always on hand to help with any questions. The FREE Saturday wine tasting from 4-8pm is the best part. There is also a bar and a few tables where you can relax and open a bottle of wine or beer or order from the beers on tap!
google avatar

Erik L.

Yelp
Okay here goes. This is a beer store with taps. Not taps for growlers taps for consuming beer while you shop. Yes you heard me, you can peruse a giant bottle collection while you have some high gravity delicacy. They also have wine but I'm a beer nerd and wine is one of the things I drink, but I prefer the beer. As for the beer selection it runs the gamut from IPA's to Saisons with some ales and stouts between. I'd suggest you plan on at least 2 hours for the visit and at least $200 for shopping. The staff is knowledgable and the american craft and Belgian import choices are extensive. Keep your eyes open and you will find some real rarities.

Yelp
Being a beer girl, I was already a little weary to plan a friend of mine's Bachelorette Party Wine Tasting as she is a huge wine fanatic. I scoured the internet trying to find the perfect place to host our group in Asheville. Everything was either way too expensive or free, and I needed something in the middle ground. I finally found Appalachian Vintner, and have never been more pleasantly surprised. I called the owners/brothers, Geoff and Charles, and told them my dilemma. They worked with me on price, and assured me it would be done properly. They even told us we could bring our own cheeses, olives, and meats to add to our event. Finally the day came for the tasting, Bachelorette Party in tow, and sure enough they did it UP! They set us up a beautiful seated area with glassware and water. Geoff chose a tremendous tasting menu, and gave us all kinds of interesting knowledge on what we were drinking. He always poured the bride's wine first, which I thought was a very thoughtful touch. It was the highlight of the weekend! The whole time I was thinking...you just don't get service like this anymore. What a relief!! Outside of this particularly great experience, Appalachian Vintner is a beautiful space. Lots of natural light, very clean, old creaky hard wood floors, exposed brick, and a tremendous inventory on carefully chosen and ordered beer and wine. Ask Geoff to recommend some things to you. He knows everything about everything in that place. I am already looking forward to another trip!! Thanks so much guys! We will always remember what a great time Tina's Bachelorette was!
google avatar

Jill W.

Yelp
App Vintner is my JAMS! Their selection of mix and match beers covers everything local in addition to a wide variety of national microbrews. They have a large, interesting wine selection with everything organized, clearly labeled, and accessible. I love checking in frequently to see what's new on the shelves! The staff is always courteous and willing to offer advice and information without the pushiness or pretense that I've experienced with other wine sellers. I personally haven't had a drink there, but I have seen the many folks enjoying the nice bar area while I'm shopping! This is a 'must stop in' store while you are in Asheville!
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
This is my go to locally owned wine shop in Asheville. Great selection at a range of price points, fantastic wine by the glass selection including sparkling, and friendly helpful staff. You should go!

Yelp
There are several wine stores in town, so how does one choose? For me, it comes down to three simple things: The friendly staff, the great regular patrons, and ability to consume on premises while sitting at the bar or at the couches and chairs around the store. Geoff and Charles Alexander are the owners of the Vintner and they are not only super friendly, but super knowledgeable about everything wine and beer. Tell them what styles and price point you are looking for and they will pick the perfect bottle every time. Besides a great selection of wines from around the world, the Appalachian Vintner provides an amazing array of tasty beers in bottles, off the tap, or even a newly installed cask system. Oh, did I forget to mention the cooler with 100 different beers or cold white wines??? And all the appropriate glassware to match? The remodeled space and new location combine to offer the best logistics in town for an enjoyable evening. There are several table and chairs, a huge bar for tastings and just chatting up your newest friend, perhaps a conversation on the couches in the quiet little nook?? Wherever you decide to enjoy your beverage of choice you'll be glad you did. What can't I say about how great the Appalachian Vintner is??? Come on down and meet the regulars, introduce yourself and join the reindeer games!! I'll be there every Saturday for the free wine tasting and so should you! Cheers!

Yelp
Having lived in Asheville for over 30 years, we had never been to the AV. So, we thought we would give it a try. Good selection of bottle beers, not so much on tap. My big concern was that they refused to give samples of their draft beers. They gave some lame excuse why this was the case. When you consider that all other beer joints in town are glad for you to try their beers, I was surprised and disappointed at this policy by AV. Probably given the choices for beer in Asheville now I will not be visiting AV again.
