Appellation to Open Hotels in California, Utah - AFAR

"This six-and-a-half-acre property is a modernized refresh of the former Wine & Roses Resort and Spa, offering 66 rooms and suites (210–1,025 sq ft) and an overhauled dining program that emphasizes locally grown produce. The on-site restaurant was relaunched to spotlight ingredients like baby artichokes and to celebrate underrated regional bottles such as old-vine zinfandel and sauvignon blanc; plans call for a chef’s counter where guests can watch the kitchen team (occasionally including Charlie Palmer) at work. The redesign upgraded technology and interiors while keeping a strong focus on local wine and farm-to-table cuisine." - Matt Villano

Lovely place to stay. Shared a room (two bed queen) and the size exceeded my expectations - more than enough room to spread out. Slept very well on the bed. Rooms were clean and spacious and airy with a nice little balcony w/table and chairs and mini fridge and bar area. Also a desk if you need to work. Enjoyed the spacious and well lite bathroom and even enjoyed a bath. Nice boutique hotel that holds events like weddings, but our little group wasn't impacted by that. My only gripe is the gym needs a makeover, the equipment needs an overhaul/update.

Had a great stay at Appellation Lodi. The property is very cute. The spa service was tranquil and relaxing. Maison Lodi has a fantastic menu. We were touched by the complementary goodies in our room when we checked in. We will definitely come back again.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and we absolutely loved our experience! The rooms were clean and pretty, the bed was so comfortable, and we loved our balcony view! This is definitely a little hidden gem, and may have just became our favorite spot for future staycations. The restaurant on site was also superb and made our dinner date extra special!

Room was very nice, clean and big with a very nice terrace. Had lunch at Maison Lodi it was fresh and tasted great. Had dinner at Americana House and it was delicious. Service is great at both places and the front desk as well check in was a breeze. I will definitely return if I get the chance.

I came here for a two-day staycation to rest after recovery and honestly wish I could give this place the 5 stars it deserves for many aspects but unfortunately, the issues with overcharging, false advertising, and the staff’s unwillingness to correct it force me to leave a 1 star. Warning: Take screenshots at booking on both your computer and your phone. Do not wait for the email confirmation. On the website, my total clearly showed one amount in my booking confirmation (not a summary, but the actual confirmation after entering my card). Minutes later the email total was about $60 higher. Without screenshots, you cannot prove the difference. This is not a 3rd party site, I booked directly through them. The Positives-
The grounds are absolutely lovely. I enjoyed a bottle of wine and Italian take-out in the garden as the sun set and it was perfect. The staff, particularly the bartenders and restaurant team, and grounds staff, are superb. Every single one went above and beyond. Everyone except the reception staff. The hotel also feels much nicer than its 3-star rating. It really was a lovely place. The Negatives (and why this is a 1 star) Booking & Overcharge: I booked directly on their website. The price was clear, with a detailed breakdown showing the resort fee included. I entered my card info, and the confirmation page reflected that exact price. Minutes later, my email confirmation showed a different total, almost $60 more. I immediately messaged the hotel and never received a response. At check-out, when I raised this with screenshots in hand, the manager said their website is inaccurate and that corporate already knows about it because others have complained before. Yet instead of fixing it or refunding the difference, they simply blamed the website and said the math on their own site was wrong. The receptionist then went further, adding up the listed amounts in front of me and saying the amount adding up on the website was incorrect, as if that was my fault. She then started telling me my bill was high because of my bar tab. I was not disputing my bar tab. I was disputing the room rate discrepancy and the resort fee being listed as included on their own site. I have the money, I just don’t like being fleeced out of $60. Room Issues: The “Superior Queen” I booked was directly over the bar and restaurant and noisy. At check-in, I was told about the noise and asked if I could switch to a room not over the bar. I was willing to pay the price difference. They had one available for Friday but not Saturday and refused to let me take it for even that one night. The room itself was also uncomfortably hot, AC blasting at 61 degrees just to feel decent. The bar area downstairs was the same, with people constantly walking in and out because of the heat. False Advertising: Their website photos and the room description clearly state the Superior Queen includes a bath. I even double-checked before booking because a bubble bath was part of my plan to relax, so I brought bath products with me. When I arrived, there was no tub, only a shower. At reception, I showed my screenshots and was told that some Superior Queens have tubs and others don’t, but their website doesn’t make that distinction. Instead of acknowledging that the website was misleading, I was made to feel like I had booked the wrong room, when in fact the listing itself was inaccurate. Bottom Line
: This hotel overcharged me compared to my confirmed rate, advertised amenities it didn’t deliver, and dismissed my concerns with a shrug. The grounds and restaurant staff are truly wonderful, but none of that outweighs being misled and charged more than promised. I cannot recommend staying here unless you take screenshots of everything and are prepared to fight the charges, which I am, or their fix their website.

W&R was once again a well maintained and beautiful place. We were both a little hesitant to stay in 61 after really liking 25 earlier this year. The "back-40" is a great place, too. We did not eat at the new restaurant this trip but used Maison's 2 mornings -- really good. We will stay again especially if we can get great rates like we did with Bookings.com this time. Grounds are beautiful and rooms are cozy. Location is close to wineries near by and food at the restaurants is great! Had an issue with our wine we ordered at American house. Ordered a Pinot under the Pinot section and received a zin blend. Was told this is the Pinot and they know its confusing. I believe we were just given the wrong wine as that winery DOES make a 100% Pinot.

I'm writing to share our recent disappointing experience at this resort, which unfortunately fell far short of expectations given the premium pricing. We were shocked to be awakened at 7:00 AM on a Sunday morning by leaf blowers operating directly outside our room, with the noise continuing for over an hour and making it impossible to enjoy the peaceful morning we had anticipated for our weekend getaway. At $350 per night, guests have every right to expect basic courtesy regarding noise levels, especially during early morning hours on weekends, as most hotels observe quiet hours until at least 8-9 AM and postpone landscaping activities until more reasonable hours or weekdays. This completely undermined what should have been a relaxing, restorative experience, and instead of waking up refreshed in a tranquil setting, we spent our morning dealing with disruptive noise that made further sleep impossible. The timing of maintenance activities seems poorly planned, and a simple scheduling adjustment could prevent this issue for future guests who are paying premium rates for a peaceful retreat. Unfortunately, this experience has deterred us from returning, as for the price point, guests deserve better consideration regarding noise management and timing of maintenance activities. I hope management will review their landscaping schedule to ensure other guests don't have their expensive getaway similarly disrupted, because based on this experience, the value proposition simply isn't there when basic guest comfort isn't prioritized.
