Applewood Manor in Asheville, North Carolina, Is Bringing in Top Chefs for a 'Communal Table' Dining Experience

"Applewood Manor, a New England-style Colonial Revival bed-and-breakfast in Asheville, North Carolina, offers intimate, immersive experiences, including cycling, business leadership, and guest chef events. The review highlights a weekend event featuring Chef Mads Refslund, cofounder of Noma, who involves guests in a farm-to-table process. Guests participate in activities like shopping at local farmers markets, foraging, and cooking meals together. The property features luxurious accommodations with amenities like a Jacuzzi tub, retro Smeg mini fridge, and king-size Duxiana bed. Had the pleasure of staying at the Applewood Manor in the York Imperial Suite 3/14/23 through 3/17/23. Robin and Stephen have cultivated an incredible sense of style at this bed and breakfast - it truly is a boutique experience! The art throughout the home is incredible and our room didn't disappoint either. Everything is meticulously cleaned and just makes you feel so comfortable. Rain and Saul, the innkeepers, were incredibly friendly and ensured we had an awesome stay. Robin's breakfasts, especially the fresh baked bread, were an awesome way to start off the day. The bed and breakfast is centrally located and is a quick drive to everything you would want to do in Asheville!

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Applewood Manor in the dog friendly cottage! The staff were attentive, welcoming, and amazing. The grounds, main home, and cottage are beautiful! Loved our little quiet and comfortable space in the cottage with our fur baby and having delicious breakfast served on the porch while she ran around in the fenced in area! Robin and team took extra care with accommodating food allergies and also surprising the husband with a box of chocolates for his birthday. The extra touch of fresh cut flower, dog bowls and blankets, and craft beer selections were also appreciated. Location was perfect and convenient for our adventures while in town and the neighborhood was perfect for walks, too. We will definitely be back and have already recommended to others. Applewood Manor is a beautiful slice of heaven. Thank you!!

What a wonderful experience! My fiancé and I stayed for his birthday weekend and couldn't have been more pleased. We stayed in the York Imperial which was spacious and warm in the cold winter weather. The fireplace made our room feel cozy and romantic. Stephen, Robin, and Rain accommodated a special request for chilled champagne as a special gift for my fiancé and also left a friendly card and delicious chocolates! The breakfasts were amazing! Robin is brilliant! We enjoyed every menu she put together. It was a joyful and welcoming spot! We will be back and highly recommend the Applewood Manner to anyone interested in a quiet getaway in a wonderfully convenient spot.

What a delightful stay at the Applewood Manor! From the moment we arrived and Rain greeted us, to the last breakfast prepared by Chandler, our stay was top-notch. We really appreciated that specialty diets (we're vegetarian) are cheerfully accommodated. The Macintosh Suite was lovely, comfortable, and offered many luxurious details you don't always find - like a lighted make-up mirror, plenty of room for our toiletries in the bathroom, a concentrator and diffuser attachment with the blow dryer, room darkening curtains, and separate climate control for the room. Having a small, excellent quality TV - very unobtrusive - was really welcome. Not to mention the Bluetooth speaker so we could set our own mood music anytime we liked! The coffee service and chocolate chip cookies were very welcome, and we took advantage of the propane fire pits in the back. The location of the Inn is stellar - you're close in to everything, but the Inn's grounds provide wonderful privacy and a sense of nature. We enjoyed talking to Robin about the artwork in the house, and we really appreciated the very guest-focused atmosphere of the entire experience. We always knew if we needed anything, our hosts were a quick text away ready to make sure our stay was perfect. A wonderful experience in a beautiful home in a gorgeous area - we thoroughly enjoyed it!

We had a great 2 night stay at Applewood. Robin was so gracious and helpful, we got great recommendations for hiking and dinner, our 2 breakfasts were gourmet quality with plenty of friendly food talk. The room had every detail we could want.... insider tip, Granny Smith has a great porch perfect for an afternoon nap... On top of all that the house is furnished impeccably, like living inside an art museum... For a top experience in Asheville I can highly recommend Applewood Manor

I have been to Asheville several times before, but this was by far the best experience. Adjacent to downtown and in a lovely historic part of town, The Applewood Manor was simply fabulous. The personal touches everywhere and the guest experience was their number 1 goal - and - they succeeded. The breakfast was creative with everything made from scratch (including the yogurt - just yum!) and a more than satisfying regional gourmet experience. The rooms were appointed anything a traveler could want. I stayed in The Granny Smith room and had my very own deck and fireplace. Robin and Stephen & their team could not have been better hosts. Their selection of art and furnishings spared no expense which provided an authentic custom experience that was second to none. I will be back and will never stay downtown at a hotel or an Air BNB again - there is just no need to consider given the value & experience for the very reasonable rates all things considered.

We visited the Applewood Manor on a business trip to celebrate an important milestone - the group couldn't have picked a better location! The place has an amazing warmth, style, and uniqueness. Each room is special and has the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Staff members are all very helpful and friendly. The food is absolutely stunning! If you get a chance to chat with the owners, take it - they are incredibly caring, smart, and interesting people. We got the chance to chat about life, business, and travelling one morning and it was a highlight of the trip for me. I will definitely be returning for another stay at the gorgeous Applewood Manor!

Hospitality & Food was fabulous!!! Robin & staff prepared delicious breakfasts. I wish we could have participated in one of her dinners, I hear it was fabulous as well. The B&B is beautifully decorated with plenty of both indoor & outdoor spaces to relax & is such a quaint facility tucked into a quiet neighborhood filled with trees & nice yards. Our room was spacious & so comfy. The bathroom was a bit tight in our Northern Spy room. The location is great being that it’s a short mile or so to downtown & is a walkable.adventure. Robin is very hospitable & answered our many questions about activities along the Blue Ridge Parkway & restaurants in town. The staff send a very informative email About activities. Restaurants, sights, etc prior to arriving so it was easy to plan our trip. We enjoyed visiting with our fellow guests while enjoying our fabulous breakfast (gluten free &’diabetic needs were observed when she panning meals) as well as Robin. I feel like we now have a friend in Ashville. We would definitely recommend staying at Applewood & Hope to return ourselves.

Yelp
We were on cloud nine during our memorable three-night stay at the Applewood Manor. From the hospitality and cuisine to the location and ambience, we were wholeheartedly delighted with our stay. Saving the best for last, we will get to the gourmet breakfast in a minute, but first... We stayed in the detached Cortland Cottage, which was both spacious and private. Joshua and his team allow pets in this room, but there were no lingering odors and the jacuzzi tub was comfortable for two and super clean. The outdoor area was very inviting with lots of places to relax from two porch decks to a fire pit. The historic neighborhood of Montford is idyllic and only a pleasant 20 minute walk from downtown Asheville. Finally, the food. Joshua is a star chef and his three-course breakfasts were the collective highlight of our visit to Western North Carolina. By the third day, we couldn't wait to see what foodie paradise awaited us for each course. You can't go wrong with Applewood.

Yelp
Applewood Manor was my first bed and breakfast experience. Robin and Crystal were nothing short of exceptional hosts. From the beginning, they offered advice on things to do and restaurants to visit in the area. The room we stayed in was gorgeous and super clean. Their COVID precautions were top notch. Every time we were in the home, we felt like we were part of the family. I highly recommended staying here rather than a hotel. It was beautiful place and we were able to meet other guests/get to know Robin. The personal family touches from the art to the homemade breakfast are stunning. They even have homemade cookies that they give guest in their room! This will be a place we will return to time and time again. They set the standards high for a bed and breakfast experience. Thank you for the awesome time!

Yelp
I've been to a couple dozen B & Bs through the years and this is THE BEST ONE I've ever stayed in. It feels very relaxed, warm and friendly there possibly because the owners convey that in their personalities. One of the co-owners, Josh, is an artist and magnificent pianist who was kind enough to play for us while we were there. He is also the chef who prepares 3-course gourmet breakfasts everyday which are creative as well as delicious. The majority of the produce they use is from their organic gardens in the back. Cash, the other co-owner, is the genius behind their landscaping gardens. If you like porches, this is your place - there are at least 4 of them & one has a porch swing. This inn is filled with gorgeous antiques and attention to detail. You are very close to downtown yet are located on a nice quiet street so you get the best of both worlds. Trust me when I say that you will be glad that you stayed there. My hubby actually thanked me three times for finding Applewood!

Yelp
My siblings and I did the Total Home Takeover at the Applewood Manor and it could not have been better. We were concerned about Covid, but Robin, the owner, explained their thorough cleaning process and allayed our worries. We enjoyed the layout of the home, thoughtful amenities, each bedroom's unique character, Robin's delicious breakfasts with homemade bread, her melt in your mouth cookies, and hospitality. We were twelve people in total. We felt like we were in our own family home sitting at the large accommodating dining table and enjoying the stone patio by the fire pits. Everyone is already talking about going back. Thanks Robin and Stephen!

Yelp
Was not happy with the property or the room. Book a room for 3, got a queen bed no sofa. Charged full price for no breakfast. Told staff needed couch or something for kid to sleep, nothing; however, other rooms not being used were king beds that would have been better. Property needs updating. I left after one day; however, I paid for two. I went not to far to a place that had breakfast and a place for my kid to sleep.

Yelp
Best B&B EVER! Okay only the 2nd B&B I have ever stayed out but still. This truly made me change my mind about B&B's. Nancy and Larry are the owners and they are honestly the most wonderful and generous couple that a person can find. They make you feel at home, they make you feel like you have known them for years and part of the family. The rooms are clean and vintage style, I absolutely loved it. They are only a few miles away from the downtown area, you can walk but a taxi is easiest. Nancy makes home made food and her breakfast is absolutely delicious. When we stayed we had Nancy's homemade granola over greek yogurt and papaya. It was fresh and healthy. She also served us a citrus cranberry bread with cream cheese and an omelet filled with spinach, peppers, cheese and ham. It was big and delicious, I was so stuffed that I just couldn't finish it all. Larry was nice enough to bring me a cup for my left over granola, papaya and yogurt, a great little snack for my road trip back down to Savannah. THANK YOU Larry :) We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great Bed and Breakfast. Everyone working there was fantastic and the owner was a delight. The in-house chef was creative and made delicious breakfasts. We plan to go there again because it was so enjoyable.

Yelp
Robin and her husband are the two of the nicest people I have ever met. Service was fantastic, rooms were beautiful and comfortable. Everything was professional. Could not recommend staying here enough. My fiancé and I would not stay anywhere else in Asheville next time we visit. 11/10.

Yelp
As a busy young professional couple, we like to take short vacations with as much already built in. We typically will take a cruise, but on a recommendation we tried this B&B. It was supposed to be a quiet, romantic weekend. And boy was it! The staff polite, effecient, nonobtrusive. The place was charming, immaculate, tastefully looked early century, but with all the modern conveniences (romote control fireplace, wifi, and directv). If you are looking for upscale, convenient romance, my highest recommendation.

Yelp
Just spent a wonderful weekend at the Applewood Manor BnB. Highly recommend this place! The house and its history are awesome. I had a smaller room, but everything worked properly and it was very comfortable. The owner was a pleasure to meet and get to know. And Asheville just . . . well, what can you say about how special it is. Took away one star for the breakfast food. The food was beautifully presented and tasty local and natural cuisine, but was expecting a little more protein for my active day ahead. All around a great experience and can't wait to do it again!

Blayne B.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. I would make sure you stay here whenever you are exploring Asheville or surrounding areas. The rooms and manor are beautiful, the staff is super friendly and the food is amazing! Not to mention you are only a short drive from downtown but far enough away to hide back within the trees

Yelp
What a wonderful bed and breakfast. We now have a go-to place to stay when visiting Asheville. The food was exceptional and the accommodations well thought out. I would highly recommend it.

Yelp
Great place to stay in Asheville. Wonderful accommodations & fantastic breakfast provided by super nice hosts. Close to downtown but you would never know it given the quiet location with nice shade trees. Quick access to a neat bike trail along Reed Creek that runs right by the Botanical Gardens at Asheville (well worth a visit). Would stay there again without hesitation.

Yelp
Thank you Nancy and Larry for a wonderful stay. The breakfasts each morning were divine. Close to downtown, we took an uber almost everywhere we went. The room was well appointed and private. We did stay in the smallest room, "Northern Spy" and the bathroom was quite small so I wouldn't recommend the room for a large person, but fine for someone with simple needs. We mighty stay in the cottage next time or Winsap suite. This was my first B&B stay and we will definitely be returning on our next Asheville trip.

Yelp
My first stay at a B&B was incredible thanks to Nancy and Larry! They are so generous and caring and make you feel right at home. Plus, the breakfasts are incredible. It's an easy walk / cab ride to downtown but it's nestled in a quiet little neighborhood so you really get the best of both worlds. I plan on staying here in the future again!

Yelp
Wow simply the best place to stay in Asheville. Nancy and Larry are simply the best people. Nancy cooks every morning and it's the best home cooked meal I've had outside of my Grandmothers. Stayed in the Winesap Room and it's beyond perfect. Big room, upstairs and it felt like home. If you need a place to stay while in town for a few days this is the place.

Yelp
We had a great time at this b&b. Larry and Nancy the innkeepers were very helpful. And always easy to find. We had left something in the room when we left and they mailed it to us the next day. Breakfast was excellent -- Nancy is a great cook. The rooms were very nice. Ours had a private balcony. And for you dog owners out there they had the cutest Selkeys who were very well behaved. We highly recommend this place and would return there

Yelp
I have nothing but positives to write about Applewood Manor. My wife and I have stayed at many B&Bs over the years, but none has topped this one! From its ideal location (a quiet neighborhood near a park and within walking distance of downtown) to its beautifully appointed bedrooms (ours was the York Imperial Room) and common areas to the delicious and ample breakfasts, everything was A-1. At least as important are its gracious hosts, Nancy and Larry Merrill, who make every guest feel like a member of the family, but also like a VIP. Applewood Manor will certainly be our B&B of choice whenever we return to Asheville, at least as long as the Merrills are its innkeepers!
