What to Do in Old Dubai: Our Guide

"This cafe in the historical Al Fahidi neighborhood used to be the home of a pearl merchant; now it serves traditional Emirati specialities in a charming leafy courtyard with wicker furniture, turquoise benches, and black-and-white photos of old Dubai. Come here for the Emirati breakfast: soft scrambled eggs, marinated eggplant, black olives, feta cheese, and labneh served on a giant silver platter." - Dylan Essertier, Laura Ratliff

It was so nice to be back at Arabian Tea House after a while — and I’m happy to say it still has the same charm and warm atmosphere I remember. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the space feels peaceful and authentic. I ordered the Arabian breakfast and absolutely loved it! Fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned — perfect for two to share. I came around 11am and was hoping to see more lunch options available by then, like sandwiches, but breakfast was still being served. Still, the meal was satisfying and worth the visit. Just a heads-up: parking can take a bit of time as there’s no dedicated space — I waited about 15 minutes to find a spot. But once you’re in, it’s a lovely, relaxing escape in the heart of the city.

Marga, my waitress served me and wife this afternoon for lunch since we were not able to have famous breakfast due to wife's long sleep but lunch was also surprisingly good!! We had avocado salad, chickpea curry, chicken rice and two fresh juices(avocado, beetroot). The service was excellent and we thought we were royals as they listened to our needs and gave exactly what we needed(comparing with EU service standards). The restaurant atmosphere was like a cool arabic traditional house theme with adequate A/C (outside temperature was 41 degrees). The only downside is the restroom which consist of two blocks seperate between male and female. Male block had no toilet paper so watch out for that. Other than this I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for authentic Arabic restaurant!

The Arabian Tea House was a true paradise on a day when the temperature reached around 45 degrees Celsius. The place itself is a quiet corner of Dubai's past, fresh, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with an authentic touch. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was very good. We only had a salad and hummus with fresh bread, and everything was excellently prepared. It's an excellent place to experience authentic Emirati cuisine. I highly recommend visiting the Arabian Tea House, especially for those looking for an oasis of calm and traditional Arabian hospitality

Amazing place! You feel like you’re outdoors, but the entire area is actually air-conditioned. We arrived really early—around 6:30 a.m.—and they kindly let us in to sit and wait for the opening time. We ordered the Arabic breakfast, and it was… well, just as you’d expect breakfast to be in most homes across the Middle East—from east to west, north to south. Nothing particularly special flavor-wise; most of the ingredients could easily be bought at any supermarket. The only cooked item was the egg, and it was way overcooked (as you can see in the photo). The bread was unlimited and freshly baked. The lime and mint drink was okay, and the orange-strawberry-watermelon juice was also just okay. Was the food special? Not at all. But was the experience, the place, and the service good? Absolutely outstanding.

We absolutely loved our experience at Arabian Tea House in Al Fahidi. It felt like stepping into a peaceful oasis, far from the hustle of the city. The atmosphere is charming and authentic — from the white drapes and turquoise chairs to the lush garden courtyard, every detail is thoughtfully curated. We tried the traditional Emirati breakfast and the famous mint lemonade, and both were absolutely delicious. The flavours were rich, the portions generous, and everything tasted freshly made. A special thank you to Kaung, who took care of us with kindness and professionalism. He made our experience even more memorable with his attentive and warm service. It’s a perfect spot if you want to slow down, soak in some local culture, and enjoy a truly special meal. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Dubai!

Monika was so attentive ! The best chicken, Shawarma and Samosa I've ever had in my life. The food is so fresh and cooked here. The bread is crispy and delicious. The garlic sauce is amazing. I also tried the Turkish coffee and the orange strawberry watermelon juice, which was fresh and great for a hot day out

We dined in at Arabian Tea House for lunch on a busy Monday afternoon. We had to wait about 5 minutes to get a table as the dining area was full. After getting a table, our table assistant Malshani was very supportive in choosing food from the menu. Upon ordering, we had to wait around 15 minutes to get food. The portions were large, especially the fish slices and the taste was good as well. The staff was very welcoming and supportive. Something they might have to improve in the future are the washrooms. They were cramped up for room, so if you are well built, it could be difficult for you to use it.

I absolutely recommend the Arabian Tea House when visiting Dubai! The restaurant is beautiful and feels very authentic. Friendly staff who are enthusiastic to talk and share bits from their culture and share the Dubai experience. We were helped by Ibrahim, who was extremely friendly, informative, and professional. We reccomend getting a couple of dishes to share. The Mint Lemonade never disappoints. Come by yourself or with a huge party, there is a variety of seating styles, inside and out. Would love to come again!!
