I had this restaurant bookmarked for a long time, so was finally glad to be able to enjoy dinner here with my friends. Arancino is located at the Kahala hotel. It's actually right in front of the hotel off to the left-hand side right near the valet. The majority of the seating is outside, which is where we sat.
We ordered the calamari, followed by entrées spaghetti alla carbonara, Tagliatelle ai Frutti di Mare and Bianco Mangiare for dessert.
Portions are small, prices high, which is not unexpected since the restaurant is at the Kahala hotel.
Service was average. Shortly after ordering, our waitress brought us out a crudette plate which we didn't order, so I thought it was complementary, but a few minutes later, she removed it from our table. Clearly, it was delivered to the wrong table. Soon after our fried calamari appetizer came out, which was light and delicious, followed by the entrées.
I was pretty excited about the carbonara as my husband makes it for me at home frequently, and we actually had it when we were in Rome (which is where the carbonara was invented). We were informed that the chef had formal training in Italy, so needless to say, I expected this was going to be authentic, but was somewhat disappointed. The carbonara sauce is supposed to be mixed and very thick and cling to the pasta, but when mine arrived, it had a pool of water at the bottom, and the guanchalle was thrown on the top. It also had a fried egg on the top. Definitely not traditional, but it was still tasty.
My friend ordered Tagliatelle ai Frutti di Mare which is pasta with oil and a lemon wine sauce. I actually could not taste any lemon or wine at all. It was pretty bland, and then had two scallops and a few small pieces of shrimp, which were cut up.
For dessert was an interesting take on Panna cotta, very light with a coconut flavor. I'm sorry to say, but I actually left this restaurant hungry.
