Iceland Itineraries: From 1 Weekend to 1 Month (Updated 2025)

"I stayed at Árból Guesthouse in sleepy Húsavík as a budget‑friendly option, and if it’s northern lights season I considered the nearby Arbot HI Hostel for an even darker, more secluded view." - Matthew Kepnes

Personal and welcoming owners. Very service-minded and it was no problem to arrive later than the recommended check-in time. The room was large (for 3 people) clean and fresh Shared showers and toilets in the corridor, clean and fresh. The owners said that it was responsive but we were not disturbed by other guests. It was fully booked. It was also possible to pre-book breakfast. We had missed that but got good tips from the owner about where we could buy breakfast. We did not get a place to park in the yard, but there was free parking across the street. Highly recommend!

The house itself looks okay in pictures, but the reality is very different. The soundproofing is almost non-existent — we could hear everything from the neighboring rooms, including conversations, footsteps, and even people using the bathroom. Not exactly ideal when you’re trying to rest after a long day. Between the cold treatment from the host and the lack of basic comfort or privacy, we ended up cutting our time in the house short and spent as little time there as possible. It’s unfortunate, because the area itself is beautiful — but this place just left a bad taste in our mouths. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful or welcoming experience.

Highly Disappointed — Worst Stay We’ve Ever Had! We’ve never had a worse experience in our travels. The owner was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. The guesthouse rules clearly state that check-in is available until 23:00. We sent her a message in advance, which she completely ignored, so we had to find a way to call her Icelandic number (which had no Viber, WhatsApp, or any other messaging app). When we finally reached her, we told her we’d arrive at 22:00, and she reluctantly said she’d be waiting for us at 22:30. We arrived exactly at 22:30 — but she was nowhere to be found. We knocked on the window, and a man inside motioned for us to leave. We ended up waiting outside in the cold like homeless people, even though we had already paid for our stay. By pure luck, the owner came out at 22:45 to take out the trash, and that’s when we managed to speak to her. She immediately started yelling that we were “late,” even though check-in was open until 23:00. The house itself was also disappointing — only one bathroom and one toilet shared between two floors, paper-thin walls (you can literally hear your neighbors breathing), and very small rooms. To make matters worse, two days later we received a notification from Booking that the owner was trying to charge us a late check-in fee! Absolutely outrageous. If someone cannot be kind, welcoming, or even remotely professional, they shouldn’t be running a guesthouse. Sadly, she seems more interested in taking people’s money than providing hospitality. Avoid this place at all costs — worst experience ever! Reply: It’s concerning how the owner keeps twisting the facts instead of taking responsibility. Everything I wrote is backed by messages and timestamps. Rather than addressing the issue professionally, she chose to block me from posting my review on Booking. This kind of behavior shows a serious lack of professionalism and respect for guests. Travelers deserve transparency — not hostility or censorship. Second reply: I stand by my words. Lady, please stop changing your story every time I reply to you. Make up your mind on your fake story once for all. By the way you can check the screenshot attached with your previous comment. Once again, please go check your mental health 🙏

We stayed for 2 nights & had breakfast. Breakfast was the cutest picnic basket delivered to your door at the time you choose. Plentiful with bread, pastries, yogurt, oatmeal cups, OJ, coffee and fruit. Room was nice, though we did end up in the attic which has a very low slant. my son is 6'5" so he bumped his head a few times. Owner was great, really enjoyed our stay

We reserved for 4 persons and got separated bedrooms, one of which is pretty small. We have 2 bathrooms with toilet and 1 single toilet on the 1st floor (shared with all other guests) , during high seasons, there would be queues. The room is not sound proof at all, ear plugs are a must if you don't want to put up with the snoring neighbors all night long. In general, it's a special experience in a clean wooden house, well situated in Húsavík and we did appreciate the breakfast.

Our stay at this guesthouse was the worst travel experience we’ve ever had. The owner was extremely rude, unprofessional, and uncooperative. Despite the stated check-in time being available until 23:00, she ignored our messages and wasn’t there when we arrived at 22:30. We were left waiting outside in the cold until she appeared by chance — only to yell at us for being “late.”||The accommodation itself was poor: only one shared bathroom and toilet for two floors, very thin walls, no kitchen at all, and tiny rooms. To make things worse, the owner later tried to charge us a late check-in fee.||This place completely lacks hospitality and professionalism. The owner clearly prioritizes money over guests’ comfort. Avoid this guesthouse at all costs.

Lovely stay in a charming, 3-storey historic guesthouse that reflects the spirit of Husavik. Comfortable private rooms with in-room amenities like ear plugs, pitcher, hot water kettle+mugs, salt+pepper and little treats, sufficient renovated shared shower WCs, plus homely touches like a fridge for guest use, hot beverage counter and free hot coffee, fruits and biscuits in the morning. Friendly and meticulous host who strives to give a peaceful and memorable stay for all guests: we take off shoes at the main entrance to minimise noise and keep the floor clean, and bathmats were supplied to keep showers dry for the next guest use. Yes, the hot geothermal shower water has a sulphuric smell but it adds character to the stay! Tip: have lunch or dinner at Naustid, the seafood restaurant opposite, and check out the bubbling stream beside the house!

Drawback are the lack of kitchen and earlier than usual check in cut off time. Our room on the attic level is very cozy, so is the bathroom. The whole house is well decorated.
