"What was once a disused platform on the edge of Flinders Street Railway Station has been repurposed into Arbory, one of Melbourne’s most popular outdoor bars. The drink stations and facilities are located inside shipping containers, tables populate a 500-foot deck, and big umbrellas and heaters keep things dry and warm. The biggest attraction, however, is the uninterrupted view of the Yarra River. You can get anything you like, but for ease and speed, order one of the pre-batched cocktails on tap—the nitro espresso martini or the featured gin cocktail (which changes seasonally) are both great." - Carrie Hutchinson

My night out at Arbory was fantastic! The riverside location creates a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere, perfect for enjoying drinks with friends. The food was top-notch, with a great selection of dishes that were fresh and flavorful. I loved the variety of cocktails, and the staff was super friendly, making the whole experience even better. Whether you're there for a casual bite or a night out, Arbory hits all the right notes. Can't wait to go back and soak up the amazing vibes again! 🥂🍸

2 Jan 2025 Slow service and subpar food. Food came after a 40mins wait. Ordered a medium steak, but it came well done. Btw steak was cold when served while the fried potatos on it were warm, seemed like they were ready at different time window. Linguine was bland as well. Very disappointing, thought the google ratings could be trusted.

We have been here multiple times. Perfect place for team lunch. Their burger are the best and most speedy service. Salad takes a little longer, but look at my potato salad, so fresh and tasty. Located on the river bank, nice view to Yarra River. Lots of tree.

Google
Lovely bar to have a snack, lunch or even dinner. Location has a nice view of yarra river. Food was delicious, especially the lobster roll. The oysters were nice and fresh. The southern fried chicken burger was very good as well. Thick and crispy chicken with flavorful sauce, it was delicious.

Google
Not a huge menu, but the burger was pretty good. Unfortunately the river view was restricted by the floating restaurant. Other than that it would be perfect spot for arvo beers and burgers.

Google
Great spot on the Yarra. Standard but good pub / bistro style food. Excellent service and friendly staff. Nice vibe. Reasonably priced for the location.

Google
It was a rainy day at this eatery with outside tables so it could have been depressing but the friendly helpful and cheerful staff made this a happy experience. Healthy and tasty food. The views of the Yarra and the Arts Centre are to die for.

Google
Great place for a snack and drink :-) My fave is the Mushroom Burger nice chill vibe and pretty view. The seasonal drinks are great! (Bring back the hot banoffee one :((( Also check out the Afloat for a cool themed experience when its open!

Yelp
Cute spot tucked in along the river under Flinders Street Station. Good burger, decent Caesar salad. Service was quicker than expected considering how busy it was.

Paulette C.

Yelp
We had the most delicious mushroom pizza, a beer and a glass of wine. Sitting on the river, at night, for our first evening in Melbourne was just perfect! The heaters were a huge bonus! We highly recommend coming here; especially at night.

Esther C.

Yelp
Great venue! We loved everything about it. The staff are particularly friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. Food is delicious with an interesting menu. Excellent coffee too. Thank you Arbory Bar and Eatery, we'll be back!

Brad D.

Yelp
It's back and thriving post pandemic, prices are reasonable the menu adequate and the live tunes are great. Afloat is bigger than ever and compliments the Arbory main bar. This bar is maturing with age. Perfect on a sunny afternoon.

Yelp
Nice view, but the service is nonexistent even when not crowded. Its basically a DIY place

Reba J.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner. Many tables available for our party of 8. High top tables and bench seating available. Order at the bar if international travelers QR code does not allow. We had a cheeseburger meal, fish burger and fries and lobster roll. Our group rated all meals above average and flavorful. The river side seating is a plus. Right by the Flinders street train station. We would come back if in Melbourne again.

Ann M.

Yelp
This long thin pub/restaurant is between the Yarra and Flinders St station. We were there early so most people were there for a drink. We wondered if the food would be ok but need not have been concerned. There was a very good selection on the menu. We had fish, which was excellent. Service was friendly and meals came on time. Loved looking out at the arts precinct over the water Would definitely go again.

Yelp
I just ordered food and it came uncooked I just want to order something different and manager (john) made me pay the dish eve though we never touched it. It was kinda rude.

Yelp
The Arbory is one of my favorite memories when I think of my time in Melbourne. It's romantic yet casual, healthy yet carefree. It can also be hidden in plain site. Totally my kind of place. I came a few times and it's location is at the footsteps of the CBD. You can walk right by it and not notice but you will definetly smell the enticing aromas wafting through the air. It's right on the Yarra River and the city and walkways are above it. You have to look over and below from the CBD or city streets to find it. Once you do you would have taken a very romantic walk along the Yarra to and from the Arbory. It's lovely if you come at sunset and then walk along the Yarra after you watched the city lights come alive. So you are dining on the water with the skyline as your backdrop. It's gorgeous. The crowd here is a mix of suits probably coming in after work and tourists. You won't feel out of place if you rock up solo like me. It is a bar so you're fine with lots of seating. Anywhere you sit really is a good view of the Yarra. The charcuterie board here is a well stocked board. The hotdog is a bigger portion than usual. The Crumbled Mushroom & Holoumi burger is full of flavor. The Lobster roll was served on a perfectly buttery toasted bun with a generous amount of lobster. The calamari hits the spot with a nice batter. I started off with a few oyster shooters coz why not. My flat was just a short 10 minute walk away. For drinks they have lots of wines to choose from and beer. I stuck with coffee. The service was great and I liked how they repurposed old oil drums and turned them into little secure fire warmers. The Arbory reminded me of being on set on some movie lot. It looks made up but it's a real restaurant and bar. I look forward to returning once Rona is sorted. Mel M Yelp 20:58

Yelp
Great food, great location. The pumpkin is a very good dish. Everything else is good but that stood out.

Darya S.

Yelp
Ah, I've discovered the Highline of Melbourne. This restaurant is maybe my favorite in the entire city. What isn't there to love? The vibe is awesome. It's a lot of suits, but no worries if you're in casual clothing. You won't feel out of place. It's a comfortable space to hang out with friends or even just by yourself. The fact that it was built along an old train line makes it super long and filled with seats. The food is great. The mushroom and haloumi burger, which comes with fries ("chips" in Aussie), is impressive and reasonably priced. It was juicy and well-cooked and filled with veggies. Best of all is the view. Right on the Yarra with beautiful skyscrapers all around. It's a first-class view without first-class prices.

Yelp
This place is rather new, though I had been hearing rumours that they were planning on setting up a bar in the disused area behind the Flinders Street Railway station. The thing that jumped out at me the most when I first wandered down here was that despite it being an outdoor bar, it is completely non-smoking. Also, being an outdoor bar means that it can be pretty wet when the rains come through (as is what happened the last time I was here). However, the atmosphere is pretty good, and they also have a nice selection of beers. Also, the actual bar seems to be made up out of shipping containers, though it is never going to be anywhere near as cool as section eight.

Jack D.

Yelp
Quite simply the perfect place for an afternoon drink in the CBD. Yes they have burgers, yes they have an oyster cart on Thursdays (actually it is quite epic, I recommend), and yes they have foodgasmic hotdogs. But for me, Arbory is simply pure Melbourne Sunday session perfection. Grab a beer, grab a seat overlooking the water (pretty much all of them overlook the water) and laugh with your friends as you sink tinnies and giggle at those idiots exercising along the Yarra. Better fun cannot be had.

Helena T.

Yelp
Had a lovely lunch with family by the Yarra River. Nice restaurant. I had the hot dog and it was yummy. The family agrees that their food was also very good. Don't forget the BBQ sauce if you eat here. It's a killer! I would come back. #maneklady #manekeats #manektravel

Yelp
Every train station might need a bar like Arbory I say. (Sydney central station I'm looking at you ..) This spot however has the advantage of being wedged between the view of the river and the grungy old feel of the station. Order at the bar and drinks/food will come in mere minutes. It's generally self serve water, cutlery and condiments. Just find yourself the perfect spot and you're ready for a good time ;) We've tried the lobster roll, fish and chips burger and zucchini flower. I am a huge fan of those fish and chips burger and at $16 it's a pretty good deal. Arbory is definitely a crowd pleaser and a must visit in Melbourne

Maria T.

Yelp
I'm no vegetarian but I had the crumbed mushroom and haloumi burger which comes with crinkle cut fries, and I ordered a glass of shiraz (on tap... classy?) to go with it. Amazing! In combination with a perfectly sunny Sunday afternoon, sitting on bar stools facing the Yarra and Hamer Hall, and watching the boats go by, what's not to love! Its more casual ambiance, reasonable pricing and the fact that it was a train platform at one point in time (how many bars have that kind of history?) make it more appealing to me than the bars along Southbank. Everything on their menu sounds incredibly appetizing, so I will be back multiple times for sure! Plus being right next to/part of Flinders station means more time to savour the food and tipple before hopping on a train home.

Jen S.

Yelp
How have I not written a review for Arbory before? This bar is on my go-to list when friends are looking for drinking recommendations in the CBD. It's situated right on the bank of the Yarra River and the view is fabulous. The long, long venue stretches the length of a train platform, thus improving the odds of finding a seat. Heat lamps keep things toasty on chilly nights and leafy trees provide shade in the summer. The beer selection is miles ahead of neighbouring bars, with several craft beers on tap. (Plus some classics, like Coopers.) They have cocktail options as well (a couple of these are also on tap). This is a spot for after work drinks, a bevy with friends, or a drop in with out-of-towners.

Yelp
I'm always amazed at people who think outside the box. Using spaces that others would either just walk past or place in the too hard basket. So I was amazed when I recently dined at the Arbory, who have taken over a derelict, disused piece of land between the Yarra river and Flinders Street Station. What first impressed me was the simplistic nature of the venue, timber decking with oversized umbrellas with container like structure used as bars and kitchens. They have created a very comfortable space for either catching up with friends or simply having a beer by yourself watching the ever changing activities of south bank and the Yarra river. My visit was for lunch and I heard a rumour that they served a pretty awesome burger, and I do love a good burger. I ordered the cheese burger with fries, paid, took my number then took up a nice possie over looking the Yarra. It wasn't long before my burger arrived, and at first sight it looked pretty amazing. The taste however, well let's just say I've had my share of burgers, some good some not so good. This burger was by far the best burger I have had. The bun lightly toasted, the salad fresh and plentiful without being over garnish that the moment you pick it up it all falls on your lap, the meat patty cooked medium and full of flavour and juicy. One word awesome. If you haven't been to the Arbory then I suggest you get off your bum and head down either by yourself or with a group you won't be disappointed.

Rory B.

Yelp
Great outdoor space for a drink and/or a bite. Stopped in for a coffee and ended up having lunch. Tried the Lobster roll trying to keep things light, but should have opted for the burger instead. The lobster salad (mayo based?) was too gloppy and could barely taste the lobster - tasted more like imitation crab stick. Saw a lot of others ordering the burger and regretted not ordering it. Overall great space though and I'm sure the other food items would be better; hence, the 4-stars.

Yelp
Summer get in my life! This bar has become my go to bar with a view. There is nothing better than sitting besides our beautiful (and murky brown) Yarra river sipping on a espresso martini off tap... Yes that's right, espresso martinis are on tap! Arbory has a rotating list of cocktails they will be making seasonally served out of a tap, which is pretty cool. The food is also delicious pub fare. Think burgers, chips and salads but all done very well. The bars are well stocked with a strong Australian craft focus and a great wine list. As the whole venue is outdoors the place is well heated (gas heaters) to cope with the winter months. There are also blankets available. Summer is when this bar really shines though with loads of people flocking to grab a good seat or stand along the long bar. Highly recommended for a Sunday day session or an after works drink with mates.

Cayla I.

Yelp
Great place just along the river for a bite to eat and a red wine or 2 I recommend the mushroom and haloumi burger or the pork and chorizo roll. Both equally delicious but one has no meat! The Shiraz on tap is also tasty. Slightly colder than I would normally like my red on a winter day but tasty none the less

Brennan L.

Yelp
Super soft sweet bun with just as soft patties to match. This burger has a mix of sauces and flavours that reminds me of a double quarter pounder with cheese but with quality ingredients. Situated basically on Flinders Street station, this is a great spot with an even better view.

Paul F.

Yelp
Love this place when me and my wife visit the city we always pay the arbory a visit Friendly staff and great views of the Yarra river Also very central in the cbd and of course right beside the train station Will always recommend the arbory for anyone looking for a good day or night out with friends or family

Michelle W.

Yelp
I have been wanting to check out this place for a while. I knew it was a bar on the yarra behind the station. What I didn't know was how long the bar was. I love the vibe, the view and the crowd here. I didn't eat anything but the food that came out of the kitchen smells great and definitely makes me regret to going to dinner elsewhere. Probably not a great place if you want an intimate catchup, music gets quite loud. I am not sure if I will love coming here on cold raining days/nights, but on beautiful day/night, this is definitely the place to go for drink or even a bite......

Gerald V.

Yelp
Spent a few hours at this very well executed bar and food slip of an establishment nestled between the Flinders St train station and the Yarra river. High quality and varied wine selection contrasts well with what can best be described by gastro-pub fare highlighted by cauliflower croquettes and inventive burgers. Yes dear techie-traveler, like MANY Melbourne establishments, they accept Apple Pay

Haydn F.

Yelp
What a gem! Great location with slightly elevated views of the Yarra and Southbank while backing onto flinders station. To ensure you can maximise the views bar style seating that run almost the length of the venue. If that's not your style or you have a bigger group, they've got you covered with an assortment of large tables. I sampled the double cheese burger, actually I demolished it!!! Sooooo much flavour and great value coming with a side of chips. I will be back, oh yes I will be back.

Two S.

Yelp
Fantastic for drinks on a lovely day. Unexpectedly long and stylish bar and eatery located between Flinders St station and the Yarra River. Good drinks of offer. My Negroni was a beauty, the on tap expresso martini was a cracker and the pale ales went down well. Impressive place, a return is inevitable. This might have replaced Clocks as a good place to throw a drink down and still make your train.

Alice H.

Yelp
A quick stop for a drink on the way home from work. This place couldn't be in a better location to capture the drink after work crowd. The train station being the other side of the fence means it's only a short stumble into your public transport of choice. I was only there to catchup with a girlfriend after work so we didn't have any good, just a couple of drinks overlooking the Yarra. We started at four and the place was busy but it was easy enough at that time to find a seat. At five people were standing and drinking. Worth noting if you can get off work a little earlier to secure your spot. By the time we left there were people lurking behind us to snap up our spot. I found the drinks a little pricey bit not over the top. On a nice day with a good friend it's well worth the stop in, and I wouldn't mind trying the food sometime.

Steven V.

Yelp
Great spot for some afternoon drinks and lunch by the river. Had some great Bloody Mary's and some snacks here after work and it was great. More chilled out than I expected.

Katrina B.

Yelp
Great place for some happy hour drinks, went with teammates and had a few Aperol spritz, and enjoyed the Margherita pizza. Service at the bar which was fine with us. Get here early to get a seat!

Katie W.

Yelp
Maybe one of my very favourite places for a cheeky bevvy in the whole of Melbourne. Perfect for a sunny afternoon with Pimms, for a Saturday night dinner and drinks with the lovely view of Southbank all lit up and sparkly, or for a relaxing Sunday sesh. The bar is well-stocked and has an awesome West Winds G&T ON TAP. Yes, you heard me. On tap. Great beer selection, tasty menu, good cocktails and some A+ hummus (you know I'm all about hummus). Plus, it's right beside Flinder st station, so you can roll (or pour) yourself into a train home when you're done! We'll have to see how it fares over winter, although I'm guessing AWESOME!

Hugh M.

Yelp
The great thing about Arbory is that it represents the genesis and transformation of dis-used space in Melbourne to something quintessentially Melbourne: Perched across from the arts centre, Southbank and the Yarra and right next to a train station. In the summer months you're winning, but I'm not sure things would be the same in the colder winter months. Due to the crowds this place draws, it is most certainly an advocate of build it and they will come. It also proves that In Melbourne there is no shortage of after 9-5 drinking venues. The space is long but can be a bit squishy and get crowded at times. Otherwise, good cocktails, tap beers and pretty damm tasty, but not as good for you bar snacks are availble.

Janny S.

Yelp
Great spot to while away an entire afternoon. Effectively a set of containers, with very nice and clean toilet facilities I should add, placed between the train station and the river. It has a good selection of drinks, we had a couple of bottles of excellent red wine, listening to the DJ playing vinyls on a Saturday afternoon, and watching trains and boats go by. We didn't try the food but it looked like the usual pub food; baskets of chips and hot meat in buns). Should be the summer 2015/16 spot to go to in the CBD, under the trees next to the river.

John F.

Yelp
We ate at the outside bar on the water. I had the pizza and it was really good. They have a great selection of drinks. On a nice day this is a great place to hang out and enjoy some great food and drinks.

Jenelle M.

Yelp
Location, location, location. Nestled on the (opposite) bank of the Yarra this place is one of only few on North Side and it is in a prime spot. Both entries are easily accessible for people arriving via train and its at the foot of the footbridge for those travelling from Southbank. Be warned - this place gets PACKED on nice days and it can be a fight to get a spot with some shade so you may want to wear a hat, just in case. Food is good and is pumped out of the kitchen relatively quickly despite the high demand.

Lachlan C.

Yelp
Ordered a fish burger, very impressed with the quality of the fish, so soft and tender. The tartare sauce made the dish special. Ambience is quite nice and lively. Drinks were good with plentiful amounts of beer. Nothing super spectacular but definitely come back here. Crinkle cut chips to die for!

Anna S.

Yelp
I had an event here and must say they handled it very well. I had underestimated how many people would show up but it was no issue as they quickly found another table to incorporate into the booking. Getting up and ordering and paying by the bar meant no fuss with the bill. The queue does get quite long though... My fish and chip burger was satisfactory in my opinion but I saw some other dishes that looked better so I am not writing off the whole kitchen. This place has quickly become a melbourne must and i can see why. The location is unbeatable and the view of the water makes it luxurious even. I am very happy to see that arbory has not fallen for the classic melbourne syndrome of "Oh we are so overwhelmed by the crowds that everything will just be really half assed and meh" which I see happen to so many other places. Melbourne is restless and has no time for venues that can't keep up. This one has gotten into the lead!

Chantee F.

Yelp
Great location at the train station and next to the river. Came here after work and it was a decent crowd for a week night. Outdoor seating had ample coverage and heaters. Good beer on tap. Clean bathroom, ladies! I will be back.

L M.

Yelp
Great place when its not crowded (was there pre-origin and no less than 15 people wanted to sit at my reserved table...2 of them didn't bother asking and just ordered their food and waited at my table). But, i am told when its empty its very nice for date night. Amazing cheeseburger and the yarra sailor (freshly juiced apple w vodka) was delicious! I never pay more than $10 for a vodka cocktail but this one i would pay more!!!

Adam J.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this place, mostly good. When a friend decided we should go here I was looking forward to it. This place does have amazing views of Southbank, the Yarra, and the arts centre, especially at night, all lit up. Large trees above with heaters keeping you warm on cold nights. Really great place to sit and have a drink. We ordered a few things to eat and a couple drinks. Pumpkin aracini, hummus and garlic bread, chips, and charcuterie plate. It was all really bland. Everything tasted like it was bought at the supermarket. The meats had no flavour, ridiculous amounts of 'charred' bread, hummus tasted like cardboard. The staff didn't seem to happy to be there. It all just seemed like no one cared about anything. It should be a great tourist spot that showcases Melbourne's great food and drinks at the iconic Flinders Street station but I wouldn't tell anyone to go here.

Jean B.

Yelp
Why has this place not been here forever? With Melbourne's unique transport situation (i.e inability to run on time if ever) why has no one every though to put a great little eatery next to the train station? The area here is designed for people to share their tales of public transport woe, or anything else that's more interesting than the 5.01 being cancelled. Again. There's two bar areas, which is needed as Arbory seems to go on forever. It's since expanded to be the length of the train station. The drinks menu has a little something to offer everyone. As the girls and I went for a sneaky Saturday afternoon wine we didn't taste any food. Next time though we will.

Linh D.

Yelp
Great place to meet someone if you need to get on a train right after, it's pretty central for that reason! It's apparently the longest bar too. The ice cream sandwich is terrible though, I cannot discourage you from getting it strongly enough.

Cliff B.

Yelp
Only had a few drinks there the other weekend, so can't vouch for the food, but it was a great introduction to the relatively new river-side bar. The terrace seems to stretch on forever - almost like the the length of a train platform you may say - and all seats were taken on a nice Melbourne summer day when we popped past. Never mind, there's lots of places to rest up along the terrace with a drink and just take in a bit of people-watching sport or wave to passing tourists on the river cruises, should that float your boat. Beers seemed a trifle cheaper than a little farther along at Riverland but both places are a nice enough spot to take some out-of-towners to soak in a bit of the city.

Jason S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the beer selection. Also amazing view of the river

Craig D.

Yelp
Great view and good beer selection. Really enjoys sitting at the bar look over the river talking with some locals.

Elise W.

Yelp
Loving this new riverside venue squeezed between Flinders station and the river, it's just lovely. The beer selection is good and prices are standard for the city. Hope it says this quite but sadly I think it'll become stupidly busy soon.

Jason F.

Yelp
Love the burgers and the view is amazing! Its a good spot for hang out with friends during the weekend or after work.

Phil P.

Yelp
Have wanted to try this place for ages as I got a mid week coffee here when it first opened and thought it was cool. Popped in for a wine / beer with a mate and had a great time. Great selection of beer and wine at bar prices, the venue itself is quite funky and cool as well. Sitting alongside platform 10 at Flinders Street station, it is fitted out on a wood deck with heaps of tables of various sizes, heaters throughout and drum heaters at each entrance. With a dj playing mellow tracks it is a very chill place to have a sneaky Sunday sesh. Also had dinner, the mushroom and haloumi burger are to die for, mouth watering deliciousness

Emma A.

Yelp
I would give the location and atmosphere four stars, but the drink I had was a one star drink. The worst Bloody Mary ever
