Archangel, a Design Boutique Hotel Frome, United Kingdom

"First recorded as an inn in 1311, with preserved ancient walls and beams, Archangel can be described as a modern medieval property and has free Wi-Fi, a bar and restaurant. The quirky bedrooms are decorated in deep, rich purples and golds and include lots of luxurious details. Some rooms are located in the courtyard and feature power showers rather than roll-top bath tubs. Facilities include a flat-screen TV, Branche d’Olive body products, real tea and proper coffee with fresh milk. The hotel offers a hot and cold buffet breakfast. The stunning restaurant, which features beamed ceiling and French windows opening onto the courtyard garden, offers exciting dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The stylish bar and adjoining lounge serve food throughout the day. Frome is a historic market town with cobbled streets and a many listed buildings. Bath is a 25-minute drive from the Archangel and there are 2 parking spaces opposite the hotel, with more spaces nearby." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Great 2 nights stay in this characterful property in central Frome. Our room was an attic room - head space was a bit tight (we’re both c6’ tall). Beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The included breakfast offered a range to choose from. Dinner was also good. Excellent service throughout our stay. Would definitely stay again but in a non-attic room!

Really nice stay, bath was amazing. TV in room had Netflix and stuff which was great. The staff were great. Breakfast was delicious and had plenty of gluten free options. Only problem is we were woken up pretty early from banging in the room above maybe cleaning or building work? Also the floor is so creaky in the room. The iron needs to be looked at too as it had no cap on and leaked all over what my wife was planning to wear out that evening. Would still like to return!

Arrived slightly early and room was ready which was a bonus as we were eating in the restaurant at 2.30. Meal started ok, but it quickly became clear that the venue was also hosting a wedding. There didn’t appear to be enough staff on (accept the challenges in hospitality). Our food order came up wrong (it happens), ultimately meaning we didn’t eat together. Apologies were given and a reduction was made to the bill which was appreciated, but even the replacement meal was also disappointing. There were many nice features to the room, it was quirky, but the mattress on the bed needed replacing, as I could feel the slats through it (I’m not a really big fella) and when we got back after a night out and wanted a cup of tea the kettle didn’t work properly and no milk had been left in the room - I did find someone who was cleaning up the restaurant and they provided some. In balance there were also many positives about the Archangel - the building and its decor were interesting, it is well located in Frome. It was really quiet at night, once the restaurant had closed, for a town centre location, which was nice. The breakfast was good. The staff were clearly working hard and were friendly enough.

Wonderful heritage building first listed in the 1311 Domesday Book. Unfortunately it's redevelopment has destroyed some of the ancient architecture and characteristics - lost forever. My stay was comfortable, albeit I was cold (any heating improvements) don't seem to have worked. Staff were very professional and friendly and breakfast was good. Enjoyed having my own key to access the front door when locked after hours. Location was excellent with the exquisite St John the Baptist Church close by. Attended the Sunday Service at 10am which was tranquil and offered a great refuge for a weary traveller. However, the Priest seemed a little woke for my traditional Christian values. Frome felt very safe for a lone woman. I did get a parking ticket on a Sunday morning. Think the attendant was waiting for my time to expire.

We have just spent a wonderful night here, my partner and myself booked last minute. We arrived to friendly staff, beautiful decor, and everything was clean, it was a beautiful first impression. We chose a selection of dishes from their menu and we could not fault one! The stay was lovely , the room was spacious it was so clean , and smelled amazing! The bathtub was unreal!! The breakfast was incredible, everything was fresh! I see some comments about price but I truly feel that you get what you pay for and I would hands down pay this again, for the service, the staff, for the food for the atmosphere. We cannot wait to come and visit you again! The entire team and the manager could not do enough to accommodate our stay and all were so friendly!

The room was comfortable and cosy, and after a long day on the road the bath tub in the room was a great way to relax and unwind. I also booked a table for dinner and the food and service was excellent. Would definitely promote to stay at the Archangel, I will also look forward to going back when down in Frome on my next business trip.

Had dinner at the Archangel. Really impressed with the place. Food was great, including a lovely chocolate pudding (much better than the sorbet afterthought vegans usually get). Service from the bar and waiting staff was exceptional, very sweet and friendly. Couple of vegan options that were really nice. Excellent refurb of the building to make it stylish and modern. Would definitely go again if I was in the area, highly recommended.

A few months ago we stayed at The Archangel for one night and had a really brilliant experience. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. One of the loveliest touches was how dog-friendly the place is—our dog was made to feel just as welcome as we were, with water bowls provided at the table and even a rabbit ear treat to enjoy while we tucked into breakfast. Small details like that made a big difference and really showed the care and thoughtfulness of the team. The food was another highlight of our stay. The full English breakfast was one of the best we’ve had, perfectly cooked and really satisfying. In the evening, we sampled the extensive drinks menu alongside their brilliant stone-baked pizzas, both of which were excellent and added to the overall experience. Our room was on the top floor and was beautifully presented, full of character and charm. The only drawback was that we happened to stay during one of the hottest days of the year, which made it very warm and a little uncomfortable overnight. Overall, The Archangel is a fantastic place for a short break, or even just to enjoy a meal, and we would happily return.
