Archangel, a Design Boutique Hotel Frome, United Kingdom

"First recorded as an inn in 1311, with preserved ancient walls and beams, Archangel can be described as a modern medieval property and has free Wi-Fi, a bar and restaurant. The quirky bedrooms are decorated in deep, rich purples and golds and include lots of luxurious details. Some rooms are located in the courtyard and feature power showers rather than roll-top bath tubs. Facilities include a flat-screen TV, Branche d’Olive body products, real tea and proper coffee with fresh milk. The hotel offers a hot and cold buffet breakfast. The stunning restaurant, which features beamed ceiling and French windows opening onto the courtyard garden, offers exciting dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The stylish bar and adjoining lounge serve food throughout the day. Frome is a historic market town with cobbled streets and a many listed buildings. Bath is a 25-minute drive from the Archangel and there are 2 parking spaces opposite the hotel, with more spaces nearby." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

We were attending a gig locally and chose the Archangel as it was close to the venue. We were so glad we did! The location was great. On arrival we were met and immediatly felt welcome. Our room was excellent and well proportioned. We ate at the Archangel. Despite a relatively small range of options ( for us) we both ate well. The fish and chips and steak optuons were excellent! Butcombe ales were excellent as well. Breakfast was typical full english and was well presented and excellently cooked. All in all a great stay and would not hesitate in booking again. Looking forward to it already!!

Loved our stay at the Archangel and we'll definitely be back. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay a good one, lovely breakfast, great room and facilities and the room was warm and cosy. Loved the bathroom products and the personalised welcome note written on the pad. Attention to detail is fabulous. The location is perfect. Can recommend the food and cocktails at the Little Walcot which is a 5 minute walk away. The long stay carpark near M&S only cost us £4.20 from 3pm until 11am the next morning and it's a 3-minute walk to the Archangel. A lovely overnight stay if you're planning to head to the Aqua Sana Longleat spa... only 20 minute drive away. Thanks to Gemma for making us feel so comfortable.

Great pub with rooms. The room was upstairs in the courtyard. Spacious & clean with a comfy bed, great shower & fresh coffee. The restaurant is stylish & the food lovely. We came for a short pre-Christmas getaway & had a great time at the pub & the town of Frome. Highly recommended.

We stumbled across this pub by chance after a post Christmas shopping stroll and it truly felt like a hidden gem. Despite being very busy, it retained a real sense of charm and warmth that made our pub lunch thoroughly enjoyable. The food was excellent. The rarebit was rich and comforting, and the fish and chips were perfectly cooked, fresh and full of flavour exactly what you hope for from a great pub lunch. It’s clear the kitchen knows what it’s doing. Even with the pub buzzing, the staff never let the pressure show. We were looked after brilliantly and made to feel genuinely welcome. We only caught their names in passing, but the three young ladies working — Gemma, Sasha, and Sasha — were outstanding!! Friendly, and attentive, they are a real credit!! We will be back to try the Sunday roasts!! Kindest regards and the warmest of Christmas wishes - Jeff & family

We had a fantastic stay at the Archangel! Loved the quirky rooms and we (me, husband & daughter) thought the bath was the best we’d ever had. Despite being in the centre of town, we slept peacefully in lovely comfy beds. Breakfast was excellent and varied and there was plenty of it. We had a delicious in the restaurant. Happy customers 😊

We were looking forward to staying at the Archangel having stayed at the Langford Inn Butcome pub and had brilliant experiences. We can't fault the great service and friendliness of staff but we splashed out on a Signature Plus Indulgent room because we were celebrating a birthday and were disappointed that it wasn't worth £152, or close to the Langford Standard. Ours was Room 1 at the front of the building and noisy in the evening with people gathering in the street, as well as early in the morning with bins being collected. There were also limited extras in the room—no coffee, milk or biscuits.

We had a lovely stay and meal here in late November. The room was gorgeous, warm and comfy with a superb freestanding bath, the bed was very comfy. We had a lovely evening meal-super service from the staff who also looked after us very well at breakfast, which was equally delicious. A great place, would highly recommend!

Google
We stayed here for two nights, a nice location outside of Bath with some fantastic artisan shops, it was a very nice cozy pub to stay in. We were shown our rooms by Sasha who was very informative and friendly. We saw her the following morning for our breakfast who again was very warm with her genuine welcome and suggested some things to do around the area on our way home. Staff were brilliant throughout our stay and the food was lovely. ❤️❤️

Yelp
The restaurant is housed in a beautiful medieval house, possibly part of a monastery of sorts. There is a walkway with seating areas on one side and a bar on the other. The dining area is on two levels above the street level. The service is very friendly and prompt. Food is imaginative, delicious, but somewhat lacking in the oomph factor. The sautéed livers with pancetta on brioche was the winner among the appetisers. The server informed us that they were out of salmon and goats cheese, so two of the five appetisers were unavailable. The lamb with the neck croquette was well cooked, flavoured, but somehow didn't hit the spot. The rump was a tad dry. Probably just the wrong day. Well done on the dessert. Both the date pudding (they ran out of figs which were an addition to this one) and the ginger cheesecake, were very done. Great place to stop by if you're in the Mendip area.

Yelp
Archangel isn't Frome's best pub but it's probably the nicest looking. Lots of exposed stone work, nooks and crannies. The prices reflect the ambience so you can expect to pay a little more here and watch out for a compulsory 10% "service charge". The atmosphere is pretty chilled but one of two staff members, including the apparent bar/restaurant manager, were a bit snooty and needed a bit of an attitude check.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Frome, this refurbished hotel is a mixture of modern and medieval history. With it's exposed wooden beams and country feel, the perfect romantic getaway or relaxation oasis. Although, it's not the place for giants as there are low ceilings or if you're not good stairs as it's a bit like the Burrow from Harry Potter. The upstairs rooms on the top floor are deluxe double beds, with an ensuite, a large old fashioned bathtub, tv and complimentary tea and coffee. If you prefer a shower, the rooms located in the courtyard near the pub are the one for you. Make sure to take advantage of the barn style pub and restaurant, which serve up good quality seasonal food at reasonably prices if you're not after the usual pub grub. I enjoyed a classic beef burger which hit the spot and the tasting plate, accompanied by local beer and cider. For breakfast, there is proper cafe quality coffee and tea is by UK brand teapigs. There is a range of hot and continental options. I had the eggs royale, which exceeded my expectation of hotel breakfasts. After researching and sussing out a few places to stay, this one seemed the best, a real small town gem. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I was here recently for a 25 person private function and had a wonderful time. Tucked away in the cobbled streets of Frome, the Archangel is a beautiful boutique hotel, renovated from an old coaching house in such a way that the modern glass additions manage to enhance rather than detract from the charm of the original building. Perhaps one of the best indications of the quality of the place was that local people had come to have lunch and drink in the courtyard. Certainly in this country there are not a lot of people who volunteer to drink in their local hotel. But with the Archangel's reasonable pricing and great food I don't really blame them. We had ordered in advance from a 3 course prix fixe menu and the food was excellent, even for a pesky vegetarian like myself. The timings between courses were seemless and the setting - the naval room - was lovely. Unfortunately I was not staying in the hotel, but I was taken on a tour by friends who were and the rooms were stunning - tastefully done Florentine renaissance style accent walls in warm romantic colours and unique features in each suite. The free standing baths remained a talking point for the entire weekend! If you are going to Frome this is definitely the place to stay.

Yelp
While waiting for a bus, in wintry weather, I popped into the Archangel Hotel to explore a little. It is for sure a fascinating place. It has the atmosphere of a pedestrianised alley with a plethora of intriguing rooms on both sides. Would like to have more time to fully assess this place. The web-site and the reviews seem to speak highly of the venue. From what I saw in about 5-10mins was alert activity by the staff. Much potential for special meals etc.. and functions. It diid seen slightly dull/dim but that may be the time of day mid-afternoon -or part of the air of intrigue. Will write more when I have better insight. Certainly seems a place to visit or explore.. Yelp
Nice bar and restaurant in a 14th century coaching inn. Good food at a fairly reasonable price in a nice setting. Recommended.

Yelp
I went there last month for a big group lunch (about 25 people I think?). We'd booked out a large room upstairs and some adjoining rooms for afterwards. Really great setup. The service was excellent, food was really really nice, and they were especially generous with the dessert option, putting out big hunks of 'leftover cheese' after they'd served up the ordered cheese platters. Hmmm that was actually much more appealing than it sounds. Absolutely no complaints at all, really enjoyable afternoon.

Yelp
I had a wonderful weekend at the Archangel celebrating a 30th birthday. I stayed in a beautiful room which was clean and well equipped. It was very quaint with exposed timber rafters and timber floors. The food and the service was first rate. It was reasonably priced. It is a lovely old building with heaps of atmosphere but none of the faults of such buildings.
