The location is convenient, but the property is poorly maintained. There’s an unpleasant smell upon entering, and both the kitchen and common areas are dirty and malodorous. The toilets and shower rooms are unisex, which might not suit everyone. The soundproofing is poor, and the street noise at night can be quite disruptive. Additionally, the bunk beds are shaky and creak loudly whenever you move. Stayed here for two nights in December 2024. Affordable price but I wouldn’t come back again.

I am sorry to say that but unfortunately facilities of this hostel isn't good. Old facilities didn't work well. Kitchen was mostly dirty by long term staying workers. And the dust smell makes me feeling sick.. the shower room was ok. No lift. My mattress was terriblely painful by steel springs over night. But room was warm by heater. Staffs are friendly.. but reception is not always open..... I stayed here for 2 nights.. 42$ per night... sadly Napier has very few backpacker options.... location was very good.. near beach and restaurants.. else

Exceeded my expectation. After reading some recent reviews I was not expecting much, but my wife and I were pleasantly surprised.||||We stayed there for 4 nights and attended the Elton John concert.||||The location is amazing - probably the best in Napier - central CBD and 1 street back from the beach. ||||Bed and linen was extremely clean and to a high standard. We took our own bedding owing to some reviews - we left it all in the car as the sheets and pillows were lovely.||||The 2 woman who appear to run the place were friendly, caring, helpful. Free breakfasts were a nice surprise, but we ate out most days - had the breakfast once (toast, cereal & waffles) as we were pushed for time - it was fine, free so great value. ||||This is a budget place so don't complain it is not 5 stars but it is excellent. We have travelled the world and stayed in many 5 stars hotels. This place is as good as anywhere we have stayed. We had Room One, king bed, own bathroom, shower, fridge, kettle, cups, glasses. For $85 a night - wow. The shared lounge is sort of non-existent, we stored our bikes in there. But who needs a shared lounge - get out and explore Napier.||||I highly recommend this place if you don’t want to spend $350 a night in a Marine Parade motel. Great value for money - and it does disappoint me some of the poor reviews. They do not reflect the property and remember you are staying in a cost effective place.||||Also it felt very safe with the door locked early, swipe card to get back in etc

Archie’s||||Graffiti on bunks, springs all over the bed poke into your body which is extremely uncomfortable. Multiple holes and chips on room walls, stained ceiling and carpet, carpet folded up creating a trip hazard. Sweat stained pillows, was told the cleaner “didn’t show up today” when I arrived and 3 days later I’m still unsure which beds were clean/unused because all in my room looked messy/used. Cleaner didn’t come the whole time I was there. Bins overflowing. Bathroom sink clearly dirty. Curtain in room broken and not covering window completely. Room, hallways and lounge stunk like sweat even after hours of opening the window to air out. I ate my meals in the kitchen which was the only room that didn’t stink. Toilet bathroom and kitchen unclean (cooking grease clearly evident) and old (e.g. Cracked tiles, stained plastic, stained floor). Lounge room sofas sunken in and stained. Creepy and gross vibe of the place. Not worth the $41 per night price. I’ve paid half the price for really amazing hostels all around NZ over the last month. Absolute disgusting. Only stayed because it was the only place available last minute. My bad I didn’t read reviews properly. Next time I’ll sleep in my ride

First off: Archies is in a prime location. If you don’t have a car, it’s walking distance to a lot of Napier. Heaps of restaurants and bars around and cheap. So if that’s what you need, you’re good. Second: We stayed in a 8 bed dorm for 3 nights, there were two power points.. one tucked behind a bed that someone was using constantly and another that the rest of us had to use. The room was almost big enough for 8 travellers. Wasn’t any lockers for bags or anything so bags were kinda sprawled out on the floor because there wasn’t much space to tuck them away. I’ve stayed in a lot of back packers through Europe and the quality wasn’t as high as any of those. The kitchen was big, but also gross. A lot of appliances that don’t work properly out on the benches taking up space for no reason. Pretty grimy too. Also the fridge got unplugged while we were there so a lot of our food went off. There was a note on the fridge from previous people warning about the fridge. But it was turned around so we didn’t see it. If it was advertised we wouldn’t have put our food in there! The lounge area was probably the best part. Pool table and tv and a good area to chill out. Big lounges and comfy. It wasn’t the worst hostel I’ve been too. But wasn’t the best either. So it’s up to you, if you want a better quality, stay somewhere else, if you want cheap and awesome location, stay at Archies. Land lady seemed nice though and pretty knowledgeable.

Great location especially for Art Deco fest. Affordable and has free breakfast on weekends that is really good! Staff really really helpful and kind. Good socialising areas and a bookshelf where you can swap books. Has a kitchen which could be cleaner but obviously that’s dependent on the guests using it and not the staff. Bike hire good. Art Deco style outside. Museum is right next to it and is free (and really interesting). There are private rooms and shared rooms. Met some lovely people

OK for one night. Lots of people are staying there for a long time so a bit of weird atmosphere. Kitchen is pretty small but does the job. You can have all you can eat breakfast for 4 dollars. Perfect location next to the main museums and art deco center. Big car park very close to it. Only 1 dollars per hour. No laundry in the hostel but laundromat very close to it too.
