Troy and his staff are great. He & his wife have done amazing things to the place. Everyone ( if you get a chance to meet) is friendly, respectful and for the most part clean. Each room has just about everything you need. Thanks Team Troy! John Morgan ( 208)

Great cute little place! Stayed in February when I didn’t have friends to stay with. My only advice would be to redo the bathroom liner around the tub, but the bathroom itself was very clean and kept. Loved the little amenities in the room that made it very convenient. Did not use the kitchen or workout areas but they looked great!

I do not recommend this place BUT we did have a clean bed, a lock for the door, a stocked kitchen, quiet neighbors, and a semi-clean bathroom. Grateful for that, but the price should have been way lower. Multiple areas were not clean. We received towels two days later than when we arrived. The neighborhood is not ideal.

This place is cozy, welcoming, and full of opportunity to meet interesting travelers from all over the world. The owner took time to ensure all my needs were met, and was very friendly and enjoyable to talk with. I would return anytime. My favorite part was how everyone is required to take off their shoes. It creates this homey feel that I really appreciated.

I stayed here last year - it was great and the parking lot was full. This year, the parking lot was half full, and I quickly found out why. The manager is a big jerk. He reeks of cigarettes, likes to rudely boss people around, and actually threatened to sue me. He doesn't yet understand that customers are the reason he has a job. Get rid of him, and the place will be great again.

I was at a conference and all the hotels were booked. I had never stayed at a hostel and staying at this hostel was such a positive experience. Very clean and the staff (George, Seon and Jay) are great and helpful. I highly recommend this place. Also, great access to transport to downtown. Just remember C street takes you downtown (bus 75) and A street (bus 2) will bring you back.

Pros: Location is a bus ride away from the center, which is reflected in price. Quite residential area and atmosphere, so great to get some rest from jetleg. Good WiFi. Cons: Very dated house. Staff does not know basic tourist information. No hair dryers.

The hostel itself seemed clean and more than sufficient for a traveler passing through Anchorage. However, the service was atrocious. The woman staffing the front desk was either unwilling or unable to answer basic questions about their pricing. Rather than simply discuss with me and explain the policy, she instead became more rude and unprofessional until I decided to just leave rather than provide this business with my money.

Yelp
Bed Bugs It took one bed bug and a nasty manager (leon) for me to leave this place , when i reported the bed bug in my room the manager started yelling at me and said i brought it in from the other lodge where i stayed , he harassed me and said he is not gonna give me my money back , he said the owner doesn't want to deal with this place anyway , the owner just collects the money that's all , this manager and owner took my money , just like that the only thing they give me back is $100 deposit , when i was leaving the manager was having a good laugh when i left , he made me homeless accused me of bringing bed bugs . I hope leon and the owner never enjoy my money , I pray that it brings them just pain . what goes around comes back around

Yelp
Best place for a cheap stay in expensive Alaska. Mixed feelings about this place. Pros: Quick and efficient checkin. Shoeless place. Clean bed and blankets along with towels. Small private rooms but ok for the price. Cons: Bathrooms weren't that clean and toilets were working on and off on one day. No clue how to get a hold of someone in the morning since no one's at the front desk. Not a very happening hostel; met some travelers in the kitchen but everyone was just doing their thing. Overall 3 stars coz of the value for money. Great if you're just looking for a quick stay. It's located a little ways from the center but so are the other hostels.

Yelp
Great place to stay and kickoff your Alaskan holiday. Clean with good showers. Awesome well equipped kitchen. I left my bear spray, cooler and travel books here at the end of my roadtrip. Not alone in doing so, so you can save a lot a money starting your trip here and asking if they have any free stuff.

Yelp
This hostel is clean and has good enough beds (although incredibly creaky). There was hair in the shower drain, but overall it was pretty clean and homey. It's waaay more quiet than any other hostel I've been to, however the walls are paper thin and you can hear people talking in the next room. I like the ability to check in as late as 2am. $50 for private bed. $25 for dorm. Private, free parking lot. Free wifi. This place desperately needs blackout curtains!! The never-ending sunlight was impossible to escape!!

Yelp
Great place! The manager was very nice and was a very nice place. My only two complains are 1) no lockers to keep your valuables safe, so I did have a little fear of leaving my stuff out. 2) the people we were in the same room with kept slamming the door when they were leaving and it was waking my bro up. I know it's not the hostels fault or anything, however it would be nice if there was a reminder to all guest to be considerate of other guests, particularly to close doors quietly for guests that are sleep. Other then that, great place!

Yelp
Location: Okay location, probably a 10 minute driving distance from downtown so you will need a car but I think exploring Anchorage a car is necessary anyways. It's in a quiet area. The room: My friend and I had a private room furnished with a TV and a closet. It was nice, and sheets were already arrange for us. The room was actually pretty toasty, which is great for my SoCal butt in freezing Alaska. We were down the hall from a bathroom which is shared among the whole floor. It was very quiet, and everyone kept to themselves in their rooms. Probably the least social hostel I've ever stayed at (take that as you will). Bathroom: Bathrooms were really clean! Single bathroom that is shared within the whole floor but I never experienced a crowd to use. Common areas: The kitchen is MASSIVE and stocked with things to cook with (like spices and kitchen utensils). 2 refrigerators that we very useful because I had a lot of food prepared as an attempt to save some money. Overall my stay was comfortable and not overly priced, just didn't make any new friends here because it was so isolated.

Yelp
Looking for a reasonably priced place to stay, this is it. I made reservations on line through hotels.com, checked in and had restful nights rest, no problems with the shared bathroom, had a shower in the morning and headed out to my appointment. Didn't use the kitchen, but it was there and available. Well run and maintained, you can tell the owner is vested in keeping his clients happy. Will book again.

Yelp
Had the worst experience staying here. We arrived at midnight. I had an email which charged me for two rooms but he only kept one key. Two of my friends were stranded, a third one had the car so waited for us to figure out the situation. The owner came and charged us for a total of 3 rooms just because he saw an extra person who was about to leave! It was 1:00 am by this ordeal and we had to leave in 4 hrs so we paid up. But I would highly advise against staying here. Owner is extremely rude and arrogant and took advantage of the helpless situation we were in.

Yelp
The daily rate is reasonable and affordable. Very clean overall. I liked the large, recently renovated kitchen. Staff are nice and friendly. Great location!

Yelp
The owner was really friendly. We arrived very late (actually early in the morning, 1:30 AM) and he was very helpful. Easy and ample parking. Great location in Anchorage. We will definitely stay here in the future.

Yelp
Clean, very quiet, comfortable. Less than 10 minutes walking distance to Moose's Tooth, major points in my book. Currently staying here for my second time, no complaints. However I knocked off one star for the lack of decorations in the rooms or bathrooms. MILES better than the Backpackers Hostel though!

Yelp
Clean, comfortable and welcoming. The spacious kitchen was stocked with dishes and spices. Laundry is pretty cheap. Would definitely stay again.

Yelp
Generally the other reviews are accurate. This is a pretty nondescript hostel in a nondescript neighborhood (referred to as Mid-town). It has all the basic amenities needed in a hostel - the rooms are small but clean and everything is well maintained. The owner (Joe) has a somewhat flat affect, but he is a down-to-earth guy and is helpful and easy to talk to. The location is about 2 miles from downtown, and a $14 cab ride from the airport. There were no unpleasant surprises, and the rates for single rooms were affordable. It tends to attract international budget-conscious travelers - the other guests were friendly types, who were mostly using Anchorage as a launching pad to other destinations.

Yelp
I stayed here two nights that "bookended" a 2-day outing to Seward in between. Joseph, the owner, very kindly loaned me bear spray and an atlas so I could find some good hiking spots en route to Seward (no bears!). He stored my luggage and had it in my room for me when I got back (nice of him, as it was a heavy bag and my room was on the 3rd floor). The place was quiet and clean, my room was clean and had plenty of hangers. The hostel seems to attract an older quieter crowd (though Joseph did have to quiet some Eastern European climbers wanting to celebrate a bit). Tiffany (staff) was also very helpful. The place is not too far from Midnight Sun car rental which is pretty affordable and will give you a ride both ways. Quick $14 taxi ride to the airport. Thanks so much for a lovely stay!

Yelp
Excellent hostel! Please note, it's not a hotel, it's a hostel, with the accompanying quirks of a hostel...shared bathrooms, funny paint jobs, etc. But it's VERY clean, comfy beds, well stocked kitchen, quiet, friendly, free internet. Owner Joseph is helpful in working out logistics, and even has a closet of left-over camping equipment that he loans out. A bit far from downtown, but it's a quiet and safe neighborhood. Best value in Anchorage.

Yelp
We just had a great stay here. Although it's nothing luxurious, it's a really good deal for the price. Everything was clean and the staff was very helpful. I would definitely recommend it for those traveling on a budget.

Yelp
Bed bugs and horrible customer service. I'd rather drill my feet to cinder blocks n jump in a lake before ever staying here again.

Yelp
My 13 year old and I decided to take a 2400 mile road trip from our home to Anchorage and back. We met some great folks while we stayed here. The bathrooms are very clean. The location in the heart of midtown was nothing sort of phenomenal. We wanted to go to the IMAX theater and the water park, and it was about a 15-20 minute drive to each. We were running a bit late, so I called ahead and let folks know we were going to be an hour later to check in than we thought. They told us no problem, someone will be here for you. The hostel is basic accommodations, but it was clean, quiet and well maintained. The carpet is new and was vacuumed a couple of times a day. We had clean, fresh bed linens and clean towels. The kitchen is clean and well appointed with a commercial coffee maker, gas stove, two refrigerators and two double basin sinks. At 1/3 the cost of the cheapest hotel in Anchorage, I was very pleased.

Yelp
I am writing this review as I visit this facility. The kitchen is enormous. There is a large, three sided counter for eating, and a table with benches for the counter and chairs around the table. There are two refrigerators, along with a deep freezer for freezing fish or other large items. The kitchen has two double, stainless steel sinks. Sups, plates, cooking boards, pots, pans, spices and the like - it is all here. There is a rule that you mark your food in the refrigerator. They are very clean. The entire place is, literally, spotless. There also is a living room with couches and chairs for reading and sitting. The facility has a pay laundromat. Each floor has two bathrooms, with shower, commode, and sink. Liquid soap is provided for washing hands in the sinks in the bathroom. I went to the nearby store to get some Lysol spray, just for my own issues with public showers and tubs and the like. But, as I said earlier, the place is spotless, very clean, and for the price, a great deal! I gave the facility 4 stars out of 5 because there is always room for improvement. I think the owner needs to turn up the heat a bit. It is not cold, but he has a no shoes policy, and without slippers or something to that effect on your feet, it gets kind of cold. When you visit, please bring a warm blanket as there is no thermostat control in your room. There are heating vents from a central heater, but you cannot control the temperature.
