You can’t visit Tromsø without stopping by the Arctic Cathedral. It’s easily the most recognizable building in the city, and while it looks cool from the city center, it’s even better up close. We walked across the bridge to get there, which gives you some of the best views of the city and the mountains (just be prepared for the wind!). The architecture is really striking—it’s designed to look like icebergs or a Sami tent. Inside, the huge stained-glass window is beautiful, especially when the light hits it. It’s a very peaceful and impressive spot. There is a small entrance fee, but for such an iconic landmark, we felt it was worth it.

The Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø is an impressive landmark that stands out for its unique modern architecture and special atmosphere. Its sharp, white triangular structure resembles icebergs or the Northern Lights, perfectly reflecting the Arctic environment. Inside, the cathedral feels calm, bright, and almost minimalistic, creating a peaceful and contemplative mood. The large stained-glass window behind the altar is especially beautiful and adds warmth and color to the otherwise clean design. The Arctic Cathedral is not only a place of worship but also an important cultural attraction in Tromsø. Whether you stop by for a short visit or attend a concert, it leaves a lasting impression. Recommendation: Visit in the late afternoon or evening for the best atmosphere.

Very pretty from the inside, but I’d recommend skipping the inside. The stained glass is not lit at all meaning it doesn’t particularly “pop” and for 80NOK, it seems a little pricey for not much reward. The outside is gorgeous, however, so I’d recommend visiting the area. Out of my photos, the second close up is heavily edited to even showcase the colours of the glass and we went during peak sun (for January).

A beautiful cathedral by a world renowned architect and build in 1965 60 years ago. And it's not a church btw, but more for concerts and performances due to the amazing acoustic sounds. Love the shape and the design of the building slopes and contours. Didnt have the chance to get in as they are closed that day but you still can see the scenic villages and houses around the area.

The Arctic Cathedral is an impressive, iconic landmark with a striking modern design that truly stands out. The architecture is beautiful both inside and out, and the calm atmosphere makes it a special place to visit. The acoustics are incredible we attended one of the organ concerts and it was absolutely breathtaking. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you love architecture or want to experience one of Tromsø’s most recognizable sights.

One of Tromso Norway most iconic modern building in town. The church is absolutely beautiful from the outside and when take pictures from the city central, theres a lovely background of this church, snowy moutain range and fjord in the forthground. We bought a ticket to go check out the church on the inside, there is not much to see. It's high suggested to get the church from the outside

You can go and if you not planning to enter inside, it will hardly take more than ten minutes. We went during the evening and it was a pretty snowy day so the way up to the cathedral was a bit too slippery for me. It was also very windy and provided a lovely panoramic view . All in all, can go and tick a place off your Tromso checklist. Is such a small and beautiful place, it hardly takes any time to reach anywhere from anywhere

The Arctic Cathedral is one of Tromsø's most iconic landmarks. It's located on the eastern side of the city, just across the Tromsøbrua Bridge in the Tromsdalen district. The cathedral resembles an iceberg or a Sami (Arctic indigenous) tent. The structure, made of white concrete and glass, contrasts with the sky and snow-capped mountains, symbolizing the beauty of the Arctic. Situated on a hillside with no tall buildings blocking the view, the Arctic Cathedral is a popular spot for viewing the Northern Lights during winter. The views are stunning, offering panoramic views of the city.

Yelp
This majestic Norwegian Cathedral was built in 1964, it is the northernmost & very Scandanavian. This is the Lutheran, the Church of England here. It is very liberal & has been marry gays for over ten years. The shape of the church is believed to be a reference to the nearby twin-peaked island of Håja. It has the largest, thickest what is and heaviest Stainglass window. Admission is $7

Yelp
The Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) has a bus stop right outside, and plenty of parking in the back. It's located right off the east end of the Tromso Bridge (Tromsøbrua). The church does charge a small fee to take photos inside. It's worth it though. The architecture is certainly unique.

Yelp
Check out their midnight concerts. We saw a concert of Norwegian folk songs and it was beautiful. Just a singer, cellist and pianist. As we walked out, the aurora was visible above the cathedral and we got some great photos.
