We visited this place on July 7th, 2025, and honestly, we expected something negative because of the Google reviews. But we were pleasantly surprised by how amazing it turned out to be! The main building is absolutely stunning — authentic, full of character and time, yet cleverly and gently upgraded with modern electronics that perfectly blend into the nostalgic decor. It feels like a warm time capsule made with love. The staff deserves a special shoutout — especially the waiter with the incredibly stylish mustache (Dimitrij)! 😄 He made our dinner feel like we were guests at a friend’s cozy home. The food was simply amazing. We often eat at Michelin-starred restaurants, and we can confidently say this meal was 100% excellent. The combination of the restaurant vibe, the food, and the service gave us such a relaxed and joyful evening. Later we moved to our 550 Guesthouse, where we were welcomed by a very charming exterior. The house was clean, tidy, and again — authentically styled. You really feel that this place has a soul. Our room had a private shower, so we can’t really evaluate the shared kitchen or bathroom areas. But our room was spotless and tidy. We appreciated the little notes around the room about the water system and house details — it showed real care. The “old house sounds” gave us a sweet nostalgic feeling, and honestly, it didn’t bother us at all. We were also lucky with our neighbors — everyone was respectful and quiet, which made the stay even more enjoyable. To those who choose a shared living space: please remember that guests are not part of the hotel staff, and the hotel can’t be held responsible for other people’s manners (or their children’s). If you have complaints, direct them at those guests — not the hotel.

A dormitory style accommodation and hotel.|Rooms are small, inbuilt desk, Lino floors and an even smaller bathroom. |Quiet room once everyone has gone to their rooms.|Restaurant is more a canteen and extremely noisy when several groups are there due to all the hard surfaces.|Staff were genuine and helpful.

Don't wear silver jewelry under the shower in this place!! There is so much sulfur in the water it changed my silver jewelry in a different colour. I hope my rings can be saved. In the bathrooms they mention the awful smell of the hot water, which I experienced only in this place. But would have been nice if it said something about removing your jewelry as well. Besides that the whole place reeked of fish. We think that someone had cooked fish here or something. The people before us cooked chicken and we cooked a curry but those smells were gone right away but the fish smell stayed and we can also smell it in our clothes.

Do not book a room in this guesthouse. Spend the extra 2000-4000 ISK and book another place, you will regret it if you don’t (We surely did). There bathrooms are shared bathrooms (2 bathrooms for 20-25 people). The rooms are so loud, you can hear everyone walking and opening doors. While we stayed there, there were many children in the guesthouse which ran inside and made a lot of noises. People were in the kitchen and made food until 23-24 o clock and the children were up until 23 and ran back and fourth. In retrospect we should have spend the ekstra 2000-4000 isk and booked a better place

The village is a very small and quiet fishing village. We were 1 night in the hotel. More precisely, we were in the guest house. This is down the road a little. We had a room there on the first floor. Unfortunately, the rooms are very bright, so from the room you could hear everything that takes place in the hallway / stairwell. But that did not bother us much, because at night it was quiet. I think there were hardly any other guests there. Unfortunately, we had to push the betters together. This is something we noticed more often. We booked double rooms through the agency, but we did not always find a double bed, but 2 single beds. But this is not a problem and an effort of 2min. The breakfast is in the main house, accessible on foot or by car. The breakfast is extensive and is quite sufficient.

A nice and small guesthouse in the center of the small town of Sauðárkrókur. The rooms were clean yet a bit small for two people travelling with suitcases. The shared bathrooms were clean, but a bit outdated. The kitchen is well-equipped and the Wi-Fi worked without restrictions. However, there is no extractor in the kitchen, so the cooking smells can travel to the upper floor. As the stairwell is rather narrow, carrying our suitcases upstairs was somewhat difficult. Although there were several guests in the guesthouse, it was quiet at night and in the early morning. There are a few parking spaces in front of the guesthouse, others can be found along the main road. The reception is in Hótel Tindastóll (approx. 500m away), where breakfast is also served. The breakfast buffet was good with a selection of sweet and savory options. There are some restaurants in town.

kligardur Guesthouse (part of Tindalstoll Hotel) What a nice place to stay. You could tell they wanted to make the place homey and it was great having a kitchen where we could cook a meal. Only tough part was we were on the third floor with steep steps. Since I’m in my late 60’s that was a bit of a challenge. They had a nice dining room with a couch where my son and I hung out for a couple of hours after driving all day. Our room even had a television which is rare in most places we’ve found and they even had a couple of English speaking stations. We didn’t watch TV but it was nice to have the option. We shared a bathroom with several other rooms but it was no problem at all as there were 3 bathrooms available for guests on the second and third floors. Breakfast was at the hotel a few blocks away and was very nice. The people running the guesthouse and restaurant were very nice and helpful. Sadly there were guests who left a mess (which my son and I cleaned up (and someone had broken one of the toilets) but I reported and they came immediately to close off that bathroom to prevent any further damage. I was glad too because seeing the mess the next morning I have no doubt the guests who left the messes in the kitchen/dining area would have left a horrible mess in a broken toilet without a thought. It’s sad when you see such inconsiderate people. We cleaned the dishes and dried and put them all away and I separated the trash and recycles for the guesthouse cleaners to helpfully save them added chores. I would highly recommend this location because even though the beds were not as comfortable as many we’ve slept in we slept beautifully I think due to location and hospitality of the people who welcomed us we had the best sleep we’ve had while in Iceland.

This review is of the Mikligarður Guesthouse. We had a triple room with shared bathroom and lived to tell the story. There is a spacious well equipped kitchen on the second floor, bathrooms on each floor, and it was very clean. The rooms were not small nor large. The linen was clean. No laundry facilities, but there was a sink in the bathroom, and a visible nearby clothesline. Breakfast, included, at the parent hotel was delightful, especially the smoked fish. Nothing we encountered in Iceland was cheap but this place was not expensive. The local restaurants are dismal, costly, but we were able to gag down what they served.
