Visited during winter and check in is at 4pm. Don't come early as there isn't anyone around to allow access. Restaurant and toilet in hotel is well maintained and clean. They only served dinner during summer. This is a small town with not many food options so keep the expectation low. There's a well stocked supermarket just 5 minutes drive away. Hotel came with a hot bath which was a nice touch.

Lovely hotel with rustic interior, the atmosphere takes you back in history. The rooms are cozy and clean. The staff is friendly and attentive. We had a two meals dinner at the restaurant, it was delicious. Absolutely recommended!

Such a lovely stay. Gorgeous rustic interior, taking you back in history. The rooms are cozy yet comfortably spacious. We ate at the restaurant with 4 people and had a two-course meal - it was the best we'd had during our week long trip. Fish and meat was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were delicious. Dessert (chocolate lava cake) was also perfect!! Service was also impeccable- very quick and server was kind and attentive. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

We booked a twin room for 1 night at Annex building. The room is very small - we could barely move around the room and we are two small sized women-and quite cold, especially the bath room. There is no heating there so it was impossible to take a shower. Also the doors are not sound proof at all, maybe thats why you will find ear plugs at the room when you check in. Breakfast is quite good and breakfast area is very traditional and original.

A great place to stop if you are traveling the ring road. The hotel has charm due to it being an old building. Dinner was excellent. Unique among everywhere else we stayed. The town is very small. I imagine it would be a good place to see the northern lights in winter due to the remotness.

Tons of character in this "Oldest hotel in Iceland". Hotel dates back to the 1880's. Exposed old beams and a charming old feel along with wonderful husband and wife innkeepers made for a nice overnight stay on our ring road trip. Not much going on in this town, but good place to view northern lights. Due to the shortage of wood back in the day this building was disassembled and rebuilt multiple times before settling here. It has a cozy bygone old US west type feel with smaller rooms having obviously old wooden beams. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Spoke at length with both husband and wife owners about the interesting history of the place. They made great suggestions and even made phone calls to set up future lodging for our journey. Not super fancy but highly recommend.

Nicely decorated old house (we were staying in the main building) with well-functioning everything (friendly and welcoming staff, decent décor, nice toiletries, well-stocked coffee station in the room, WIFI, clean but a little bit too dark rooms with a few nice historic features).|We had a snack in the restaurant in the evening, and we did have breakfast - both went well, I would perhaps consider adding local cheese for breakfast (would definitely make hotel standout compared to the competitors).||This is one of the oldest houses in the country, so please be aware that it's not as sound-proof, as one might've wanted (but there are earplugs for light sleepers).|The sink in the bathroom was a little bit worn off and shall be lined up for a replacement.|You will need to take stairs - it's an old building, there's no elevator (and I didn't dislike it - just a thing to keep in mind when making a reservation).

This is given in the context of a unique, old hotel (1884) in a small town in northern Iceland. Full of character, exposed beams and a local flavour. The rooms are not large but very comfortable. There is a nice small hot tub in the courtyard. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but good quality. The evening meal is a choice of one of two mains and a dessert with coffee for a fixed price. The food was home style but superbly cooked. Prefer this any day over cookie cutter modern hotels.
