It’s hard to describe Arctic Watch, but I’ll start by saying it’s an exceptional place, an outpost that provides access to one of earth’s most rarified environments. To be comfortably housed, brilliantly fed and surrounded by guides eager to share their deep expertise of the local natural and cultural history is a dream come true. The landscape is stark, open, and awe inspiring, especially under the 24-hour sun. The camp is situated where a river meets the sea, a confluence that attracts wildlife and where wind and ice conspire to provide dramatic and ever-changing viewscapes. Staff are stellar: fun, capable and accommodating. Access to diverse habitats and experiences is customized and designed to meet individual interests and abilities. || ||It is a privilege to be welcomed by such accomplished and knowledgeable hosts - the inimitable Weber family - whose motivation is to share their excitement of this harsh, delicate, elemental land, and to preserve these habitats long into the future. Their enthusiasm is contagious. ||||There is nothing contrived about Arctic Watch. It’s a real working outpost high in the Arctic that provides a rare opportunity to explore where few people have been. Each time I visit I deepen my understanding of this sublime place, and each time I leave keen to return.
